    A series on pet bereavement would be wonderful. I'm so sorry for your losses and although for me it's been a few months since I lost my Beardie Jasper of 10 years I still can't talk about him with anyone without getting very emotional. It's wonderful to know there are others who are experiencing this and especially reptile lovers. For some reason it's considered understandable to have a strong bond with your dog but if you're talking about a reptile I've found that most consider it strange. Thanks for your wonderful videos.

    My internet mealworm source specializes in feeder insects that are raised cleanly enough to be culinary grade (apparently they're the most eco-friendly type of "livestock"), so I'd probably handle a size mixup like that by testing out some new recipes. I actually talk about it in my scorpion lollipop review video.

  • @Abby-um5rd
    @Abby-um5rd 5 лет назад

    For my bugs, I mix in a plethora of things I have laying around. I use a base of some oats I put through a blender to grind them down , and some eco earth. Other stuff I mix in includes repashy big grub, beardie pellets that are not worth using because pellets are not good(I crush them up), sometimes a little bit of extra supplements I have laying around , and sometimes even some whole oats. I find the mixture molds less easily than my other attempts

    • @fionashepley478
      @fionashepley478 5 лет назад

      I don’t recommend using oats. They contain phytic acid, which binds calcium.

    • @Abby-um5rd
      @Abby-um5rd 5 лет назад

      Fiona Shepley, I make sure to gutload properly and none of the dust gets into the dragon via the worms that live on it. I don’t have access to anything better like bran, though I wish I did. This is what I have found to be best out of the things I can get easily. Sometimes I also toss in flukers cricket food as a filler for the substrate as well as some plain aspen shavings.

    Hi Rebecca, sorry you are having such a sad time at the moment (its always harder at christmas too). I want to wish you a Happy New Year :0)
    I have an accidental meal worm colony that is thriving, sadly NONE of my Geckos will eat them!!
    I have some escapees that survived from unsuccessful feeding in my bioactive setups that are acting as clean up crew! I can't decide whether to take them out or leave them to carry on cleaning up they seem to be doing a very good job in both my vivariums.
    I agree the Orange Isopods breed very well. They may be more expensive however they look more attractive and don't eat my live plants. I also keep a back up colony in a separate cricket keeper. (just in case).

      Hi Rebecca, hope your New Year is off to a good start!. I finally managed to tempt all four of my geckos to eat meal worms. A bit gruesome BUT if I nip the heads off and sqeeze the body the Geckos all liked the goop then ate the rest. The girls liked them more than the boys lol.

    My gecko limeade really likes to escape. In fact, he has escaped TWICE.
    First time, I was holding him, but then he ran off in my room. I cleaned my room trying to find him, but to no avail. Then when my mom came up the stairs, limeade came running towards me!
    Second time, I set up a enclosed garden for him, and my other geckos to play for a bit, but limeade ran into my closet. Then at the end of the day, I found him in a dark corridor in my closet, he was staring at me as if he was saying “indo? Is that really you?” And instantly I reached for him, pulled him out, and stroked his head. He is a real chub now, very healthily fat.

    Hiya, i have a question unrelated to the video.
    I just bought a DHP ready for when I upgrade my viv, however I am wondering if I could install it now. I have a 2ft viv. After being fitted the DHP will sit about 15cm from the highest surface in the viv which I am worried will be too close to my leo.
    Will this be okay? I know setting the thermostat to a specific temp with stop it over heating but I still worry 😂 if it would be better to wait until I get a bigger viv I will. But if I am able to supply my leo with better heating sooner then obviously I 100% would rather do that!
    Thanks!

      It's best to offer a variety. Feeders like morio worms, wax worms, giant mealworms may give the impression that the gecko is healthy because it looks plump, but its like living off a diet of junk food, so variety is key :)

    Hi Leopard Gecko, I just got a Leopard Gecko about a week and a half ago from a PetCo. The person helping us had very good correct info about Leopard Geckos. Got home safely and put him in his tank (Water bowl, 2 caves, and a heat mat, 1 cave each on the cool and warm side) and he was chill and good (We think its a he but is to young to be sexed.) about 4 days ago we went to visit some friends & family and just gave him like 5 or 6 crickets and filled his water bowl. He was in shed and on the cool side. this is were he should go to the bathroom but always goes elsewhere (It is a pain to clean.) When we got back I looked in the tank and found out he only ate 1 cricket and the rest were still in. when I told him the ch ch ch ch ch ch Hunter (The noise I use you use to calm your Geckos down.) He started eating the crickets. He had finished shed and ate it. He had some stuck shed on his nose/face so I tried later (After 6pm) to take it off. It did not work as when anything touches his (yes, including crickets or mealworms) he jumps back startled even if I do the ch ch ch Hunter thing. At the time of writing this he still has stuck shed and a little blood at his nose. he is not eating and He is always looking stressed. Wondering if you could maybe help or do a video on it. Thanks -Archer

      Archer18sm First of all never buy animals from PetCo or Petsmart, they are horrible companies who treat the animals badly.
      Secondly, don’t bother feeding a reptile if they’ve started to shed. They won’t eat much at all.
      Third, don’t pull stuck shed if it’s difficult to do. Make sure the temp and humidity is correct in the enclosure. Stuck shed often means it’s too dry and cold. If it’s bleeding *LEAVE IT ALONE* and don’t cause anymore damage!!

I have a few questions because I keep asking questions on your videos from about 3 years ago (sorry I’m probably kind of annoying at this point)
    1. My Leo HATES hand feeding. You said it was a good opportunity to bond, but my Leo just won’t eat from my hand. Is there anything that might make him like it?
    2. I still cannot find vitamin d3. I have only found calcium powder with d3. Do you know an exact brand that I could look up?

      Aww thanks :) 1. the hand feeding isn't too bad, to be honest I don't think I really hand fed any of my geckos at the beginning as I was too scared they'd bite my hand, and besides tong feeding, I've never really hand fed diego, as I imagine he has a strong bite 😂 so its not too bad if your gecko doesn't want to do it. You can definitely still bond with your gecko :).
      2. I believe theres like Nutrobal, Reptivite and/or herptivite? And also I believe exo terra do one. D3 usually comes in a vitamin and mineral powder, so check the ingredients. You'll need to use a calcium powder alongside that - but check out my feeding and supplementing schedule for info on all of that :)

      Keep in mind that mealworms shouldn’t be their main diet and to feed mainly live crickets or Dubia roaches. Put them in the fridge to prevent them from turning into beetles, and take them out to gutload 24 hours before feeding. As for the beetles: you can breed them, use them as a cleanup crew in your gecko’s tank, or feed them to your gecko (if the gecko is big/old enough). You can only feed ones to the gecko that are white or light brown and freshly pupated, black ones are too difficult to digest.

      You'll basicly have a endless supply of mealworms if you let the beetles do their thing.
