Good job. I’m in a fix, been looking at these videos regarding a spinning lug - yours is by far the best. No stupid macho hot rod music that they all have, to the point, got it done and here’s how. Thank you.
Wait I thought all tire guys had to use that Ugg Aaa Dugga NASCAR Impact gun on the tire? Apparently thats what the guys who installed my daughters tires last time did. Very good vid and tip. It's not cool when your baby girl is stuck on the intestate with 5 rounded off lugs. Thanks this was the only thing that worked.
Thanks! No, every nut and bolt on a vehicle has a torque spec and the lug nuts are no exception. Tire guys barely have any automotive knowledge and use impacts because they are fast but don’t care if you can never get the lugs off again.
AAA woman here and yes I use an impact. However, I'm always very careful not to over tighten the lug nuts. It's mostly the MEN who don't pay attention to the torque that should be used for each vehicle. They end up over tightening the lugs, stripping the lugs, they misthread the lugs on, and so on. Which can and will lead to even bigger problems. These guys that do this are trying to be the fastest...WRONG. I don't want to be the fastest! I want to do it right the first time and send my members off safely. As a former RN I have seen more than my share of vehicle mishaps. Also don't let them use the compressed air impacts either. Most shops use them because they are able to do the job faster and make more money. I'm with this gentleman when he says if you see them pull out an impact gun of any kind...run! Unless you see them grab a Manuel or have a chart that tells them the torque and you see them adjust it. Hell ask to watch them adjust it and make sure it's right yourself. Better yet learn how to change your own tires in case of a flat. It's not hard...at all! Good luck and stay safe!!!
We use impact guns with attachments on the gun so it doesn’t break the lugs n then we torque the wheels and boom done and safe idk what this man is talking about🤷♂️
I agree an impact wrench should not be used on lug nuts. Since you're always working on cars, I would like to get your opinion on this. I believe the main problem with stuck lug nuts and stuck wheels to hubs is the aluminium rims that are used today. Steel and aluminium do not go together well under certain circumstances. One being when you add salt, I think it gets a chemical reaction (Galvanic Corrosion?) that almost equals welding them together. I live in Minnesota and they use a lot of salt in the winter. I don't ever remember having this problem or I should say it was never this bad when all they used were steel rims. Let me know what you think? Do you notice the problem more with aluminum rims? Thanks, David
You're a 100% correct. Most of the times the corrosion is so bad it compromises the wheel and hub. Putting a little grease between the hub and rim and some on the lugs goes a long way and avoids most problems especially in the salt belt areas like here in NY.
Thanks for the Titanium Tip TIP......my drill bits are Useless on a 2001 Ford Escape.....as are Every other Tool made to Man. I can fix piston and turbine Acft airframes and engines.....can't do even a simple repair on this Rig....hour Gig turns into 3 hours, and multiple busted crap. Strange thing is, just over 100,000 miles, but the engine runs like a sewing machine, and Plenty of Power.......the rest of the Rig systems are all in business for themselves. Got the car for free, to keep it in the Family,as a Grocery Getter....2 In Laws, and a Nephew sent it to me.....I think I've been Conned!
Dude I gotta take my tire off to change my battery I guess years of doing that and probably someone used an impact to tighten them (not me I don’t even own one) well there’s literally two nuts like those…
Don't gotta do this just hammer in the socket into the lug nut and loosen. You might lose the socket that's about it. My socket came lose once I got the lug nut off
@@motorcarnut this method in the video should be the completely last option when everything else fails. There is alot of other options than cutting into your lug
man hoping i don't have to do that lol. change my own tires very year, take it in for only an oil change, then get a bill for new nuts and rotated tires with out asking. damn douche bags feels like they welding one of the nuts on. But thanks for the last resort option.
Mafia boss gave one hell of a lesson, thanks.
No problem!

Thank very much for the feedback truly appreciated!
I'm not watching this video because I want to watch this video, but it's exactly what I needed thank you
Lol, no problem, thanks!

@crlzm I’m talking about people who don’t torque them at all! You do , good for you! Thats what I’m talking about.
" I don't want to use the word"
Insinuates the word
😂💯
?
Worked perfectly. Used an air hammer to walk the rest of the nut n stud off. Ty bud.
Sure, no problem! Thanks for the feedback!

Thank you for the tutorial. The instructions were very clear
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks so much , exactly what I needed
You're welcome! Thanks for the comment!

WORKED... THANKS
You're welcome! Thanks for the feedback update!
Amazing video! What if! I broke the bloody small drill inside and can't get it out ?
Oh no! Maybe with a chisel?
Thank u.
You're welcome!
Crappy lug nut No wonder on Jeep. Tnx for video
No problem, it’s not so much about Jeep but someone who over torqued it.
what metal drill bit did you use? Cobalt, titanium, carbide? I am having such a hard time drilling the stud. Maybe mine is just too hard of a steel.
I used cobalt with no problem
Can you tell what type of drill bits you used since the lug is hardened. Carbide tip?
The ones I have are titanium but carbide will work too.
This was very helpful thanks brotha !
No problem, thanks for the comment!
We use an impact all the time but only to tighten them on and then we torque them
Most people don’t, especially tire places
Thank you!!
You're welcome!
Legit. Watched other BS vids on using sockets.
Thank you! Appreciated.
Will this work on a lug BOLT like on German cars?
Absolutely
Should've shown the snapping part as well .
Impact is fine with a torque stick
Most don’t use it
good idea
Thanks
Have you tried driving the vehicle around with all of the other nuts loose, to break the seal?
No, that’s dangerous and don’t recommend that at all!
@@motorcarnut I think you mean potentially dangerous.
Both
I never owned drill bits that cut this fast. What bits are those
Forgot the name brand but their titanium tip drill bits.

I've got this same exact problem. With a Jeep. God their lugnuts are crap
This will work, for sure. Good Luck!
This is helpful but is drastically oversimplifying it, in most cases. It's going to take significantly longer than that to drill out, typically.
Depends, some longer some shorter. The videos about how to do it not how long it takes?
How much will a mechanic charge for this?
That depends how long it takes them and how much they charge
How do you replace the stud?
Just hit it with a hammer and punch if it’s level with the hub. They are pressure fit.
So your on the road with no plug in or electricity
You’re not supposed to be on the road with extremely stripped lug nuts in the first place??
Battery drill?
What's that spray ??
Just some wd40
All wheel places should use torque wrenches to tighten. Consumer always pays!
Exactly but they don’t
Why is it always a jeep dodge Chrysler with this same problem
It’s not
They use lugnuts that have an aluminum cap over a steel nut.
The nuts swell inside that stupid ass cap. I replaced all mine with solid ones because it was driving me crazy
@philipramsden4975 Yep, me too
😅 you're funny.
Thank you
You skipped the most important part, when u removed it😂
Nut just fell off and removed the wheel
Dude I gotta take my tire off to change my battery I guess years of doing that and probably someone used an impact to tighten them (not me I don’t even own one) well there’s literally two nuts like those…
This method works if you have no other choice
@@motorcarnut right on
Don't gotta do this just hammer in the socket into the lug nut and loosen. You might lose the socket that's about it. My socket came lose once I got the lug nut off
This method is for even when your method fails.
@@motorcarnut it won't fail 💯
There are nuts sometimes so rusted that method won't work. You don't think I've tried that?
@@motorcarnut this method in the video should be the completely last option when everything else fails. There is alot of other options than cutting into your lug
I drilled straight through and still stuck🤦🏿♂️
Try hitting the drilled lug nut with a hammer and chisel
😡.
It would be a frigging jeep with this problem
Can be any vehicle, just happened to have a Jeep with this problem
There is a tool for this
This technique is for when no tool will work as I stated in the video.
He said for when no tool works
man hoping i don't have to do that lol. change my own tires very year, take it in for only an oil change, then get a bill for new nuts and rotated tires with out asking. damn douche bags feels like they welding one of the nuts on. But thanks for the last resort option.
No problem, because the use a impact gun instead of torquing them to manufacture specs.
You skipped the part using the socket 🔧 to break it off 🤷
Basically once drilled out like I explained a couple of taps with a hammer and it will just fall off.
U didn't show the most important part!
Exactly 😢
