- I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of making this video. The shoot in my hometown was amazing and the pup was adorable! Of course, Bryt has her own training playlist and the portrait techniques are exactly the same as every other portrait video we have on the channel, BUT seeing it all come together in a new space for us was awesome.

Amazing video, loved to see york (we go there every christmas when we visit my grandparents in England but we can't this year) And finally had the time to photograph a dog and used a lot of your tips
Great news! York is a fab city, so scenic :)

Been watching you to improve my work and I was totally caught of guard in the first few seconds when I was like "York??"! I love taking my dog to the minster for photos, the whole city brings a magical feel! So cool knowing you've come from here. Thanks for the amazing content!
York is such a beautiful city, love going there 🤓 Glad you are enjoying our content.
Another superb video, love this. Hoping to get out and about in my city Newcastle upon Tyne and try some urban shots. Would love to go on your workshops but so difficult with the tiers at the moment.
Sounds great! Fingers crossed we will be back to some sort of normal soon :)

Glad you enjoyed it!
Fab video
Thank you!
Jess I am just loving watching all your videos. You teach me so much stuff, already I have seen an improvement in my photography. Oh AND, I love your sense of humor. You did an amazing job teaching about the black backdrop and catch the treat, would you consider doing a video on how to shoot a white backdrop? Thanks again for teaching us and being so willing to share your knowledge
Thank you for the kind words 🙏🏼 If you drop any suggestions you have in to the request box www.thattogspot.com/the-request-box this just makes sure it is captured by the team here and we 🤓
Gorgeous
So gorgeous isn't she 😍
3:39 "Shoot along the lines!" Wow! What an amazing tip. After "Remember to remove the lens cap," I think Shoot-Along-the-Lines is probably my favorite ever, and I first heard it here on your channel. Not one time have I thought of that for architecture - roads & trails, yes, buildings never. [Head-slap here] Thank you for that tip and so many others. I notice you got the York city manager to wet down all the streets for your photography. 🤣 Your shoot made me really want to visit York and see all those great sights in person. So far Cardiff and Bath have been fave visits, and I've always found interesting shots in London. Thanks for sharing this wonderful shoot and Bryt, the wonder dog model. ⭐ x 5
So glad the video has helped!
The Council were very helpful with wetting the streets you're right there 😉😂
York is the most beautiful place, you should defo visit when you can!
You make me appreciate my Canon R5 that much more!! Tilt screens RULE!!
🤗
Only recently found your videos and watched a few of them. They are great and hopefully will do wonders for my photography (just need my own dog!). Keep doing what you’re doing and ignore the haters!👍🏻👏🏻
Welcome aboard!
First!! Also great video! Such a cute little pup! I love your videos! I also do dog photography with my 8 month old border collie 🥰
Awesome! Thank you!
Thank you! 👌👍
You're welcome!
Amazing! I love this type of photography you did in this video. If you only had to use 1 lens for the rest of your photography carrier, which one would you pick?
Oooh erm, 70-200 2.8 I think! So versatile!
So I can tell from your videos that you really strive for diversity and discussing something new with each one (which is amazing and very appreciated), but just for the record I would be happy with many more just like this! Maybe just a different city/town? Just a thought in case you are struggling for ideas! Thanks!
Thanks for the great feedback 😊
Hello! Love you videos ❤ would you do a video on how to make all those noises to get the dog to look at you? Or even some techniques to get them to look? My dog will stay in one spot but will NEVER look at me haha 😂 thanks ❤
Getting their attention with their favourite toy helps 😊
BOOM! 🙌🏻🐶😍
👌🤗🎉
Super cute video. I think I prefer townshots.
I'd love to try this but require a human !
You should definitely give a go when you can!
Beautiful as always. I was wondering if the 1.4 would leave her nose out of focus but it seems that no.
What an adorable puppy. What breed is she? I am binge watching all your episodes but can't remember her breed. Thank you again.
She's a working cocker spaniel. So she's bred to work outdoors in the field with people shooting game birds (Pheasants round here) - the cockers are dual purpose so they flush birds out towards the guns with their bouncy happy energetic rampages and they also sit at the pegs (with the man with the gun) to pick up the birds that are shot, so they are active and bouncy retrievers really that have a great nose and a wonderful biddable temperament. They have endless energy for a days work and a humorous, fun-loving, happy disposition. The sport that most working cockers do is Field Trials (pretend shoot drills) but they also excel in agility, search and rescue, gun/drug scent work and more. They're mad as a box of frogs, but you can't help but smile whilst watching them be loonies - they also usually love attention and snuggling up. They're ace 🥰
She's perfect! I've never had a dog and I'm worried I won't give one enough time or that it'll be war with the cats. I'm learning as much as I can. Thank you for everything
Silly question, apologies in advance! What are the benefits of having an 85mm if you have a 105mm and they both go down to 1.4? thanks. Love your work, you're amazing x
Not a silly question! The difference is in the field of view, the background compression and the relative distances for the same scale in the shot. For example, for a full body stand shot, I can be closer to the subject with the 85mm than I would be with the 105mm because of the “zoom” with the focal length. The 85 would therefore be a good choice in “tighter” situations or ones where the background could be busy if we don’t get the separation - to get the separation we need the subjects distance between it and the background to be far greater than me to it. So, if the background stays in the same place, and I stay in the same place, I can achieve the same shot (full body) but with better separation by bringing the subject closer to me - away from the background. (Check out the “how to get blurry backgrounds” video for more on that).
The shots down the streets I wanted at least some of the side shops in, so I chose a wider field of view (85mm) than a narrower one (105mm).
Hope this helps?
Great video. i currently have the sigma 85mm 1.4 ex dg hsm. To the best of your knowledge, would you say there is a lot of difference between my lens and the 1.4 art lens?
I think they are really quite different but honestly, I wouldn't feel comfortable advising because I haven't personally tried both!
Where is your camera strap from? It looks so comfy! 🙃
Ah this one I made myself so I can't share a link to buy sadly!
Great location, made me think a lot about composition. Would have been easy to let the background overwhelm the subject.
Glad you liked it!
Do you ever consider a smaller aperture so that you get a bit more detail in the cityscapes?
Yes for sure, but in this situation the only way we could achieve a smaller aperture would have been to increase the ISO further - we were already at ISO 1000, 1/200s, so I didn’t want to push it given some of the portraits will be entered into awards this year 😊
Silly question: When you need to take the same picture again but without dog or handler in it, in case you need to do a composite shot, how do you maintain the same focus without the subject there?
She uses back button focus, so that maintains the focusing spot as they move the dog :)
@Cosmic Foxglove - yes, what Rebeccah said :) sorry, missed your comment but caught the reply!
what aperture do you like to be at for dog photography? do you shoot usually do 2.8 or more something like 5.6 so whole dog is in focus but still blurred background?
also if you want to blur out the background but have two or 3 dogs sitting next to each other, what is a good aperture? thank you!
I shoot usually at or very close to wide open - I do not prioritise having anything in focus except for the eyes - the eyes MUST be sharp - I don't mind about anything else :)
For multi-dog shots I usually composite because of the style of my work, it needs wide apertures ❤️
@@ThatPhotographySpot awesome thank you! and what about if two dogs at once?
Can I ask a maybe stupid question? With a low aperture like 1.4 or 1.6 on some of your photos, how do you get all of the dog in focus? When I use a low aperture I can't get all of the dog in focus. If I focus on the nose then the eyes aren't sharp. If I focus on the eyes then the nose is blurry. Thanks for any help!
Not a stupid question at all - mostly it’s to do with relative distances - the closer the subject is to the lens the shallower the depth of field at any aperture. However, in my shots, the whole dog isn’t “sharp” - the eyes are, and sometimes the nose too, but I place no priority on the full dog being in focus 😊
I see, thank you so much for responding! I'll try to have a play around and see how it affects what areas are in focus.
What kind of lenses do you used
Hi George, if you take a look underneath the RUclips Video there is a list of all our core kit including lenses. Hope this helps 😊
ruclips.net/video/6Ei2l3PP93c/видео.html
You could sell your blank shots for those of us who can't make it to the Minster. But I really wish I could. :(
What is the difference between 105mm and 85mm?
The 85mm gives a slightly wider field of view, so we can see a little more of what's around the subject. A wider lens (35mm for example) would have been handy in front of the minster to see it's scale against little B!
Thats really very good but im not a fan of shallow dof, id rather see some establishment to show the location, i prefer the lens sweet spot, we all different,
Bryt is SO damn CUTE!!! just saying but I am pretty sure she know it... :)
She sure does ☺
Is covid not a problem there?
Oh it's an absolute disaster here (in my opinion!). We're split into tiers at the moment but can mix outdoors in "bubbles" (hence the family outing) 😣
