Minus the sesame seeds for me but DEF trying this yummy. Now how long do your boil the lettuce please and thank you 🥰
My mom used to make a similar dish but she used romaine
And now you know that you'll don't do it again 😅
Sooooo going to cook this for my family of 10. It's cheap and I always have garlic, oyster sauce and sesame seeds.
Thanks for sharing.😋❤
Yes delicious
The first time I heard of cooking lettuce I found it strange because in my culture we always eat them raw, but trust me anyone who's wondering, it's delicious :)
Its like cabbage. You can eat it either way
Brandon. You can do the same with cucumber.
Just like how we eat raw cabbage in cole slaw. Vegetables can go either way, cooked or uncooked. There may be some exceptions though I'm not 100 percent sure.
Looks delicious if you like slimy food mix it with ocra for a gelatinous experience ❤
wrrg
this is a super common cantonese dish that i make all the time! the exception being, i don't parboil the lettuce, just stirfry. this also works really well with romaine!
I used to Stir fry Iceberg lettuce...and switched to Romaine Lettuce in the last couple of years. I like it Hoisin Sauce over it. 😋
I hear Romaine on a grill is excellent too.
My Cantonese speaking mother-in-law introduced me to the idea of cooking lettuce when I was a newlywed and I remember thinking it was bizarre. 🤣
The Cantonese dish actually uses a whole lot of thinly sliced *shallots,* not garlic or ginger. The sauce includes the fried shallots and its oil with oyster sauce fried in the oil to bring out the wok hey flavor then throw in the boiled lettuce and top with a few dashes of soy sauce.

Romaine lettuce is much better for people and animals than iceberg.
As college freshman in 1964, my new Filipino friends taught me ABOUT cooking lettuce. Been doing it ever since. Good in ramen, little onion, tomato or whatever youve got. Just slam the lettuce core first down on the counter and it's comes right out;;
Thank you,I'm almost 65 and never seen anyone cook iceberg lettuce before.
Close to your age...when I was young, my aunt sautéed and seasoned iceberg and called it "wilted lettuce". Tasted WAY better than raw iceberg.
@@TriciaR419,My Grandmother would make duck blood soup,I wasn't eating it.

Well guess you have never gone to Asia or have any Asian friends then.
Would this work with cabbage as well?
Why not? Haha
Yes, any veggies will work! 🤙🏼
Definitely. When I was watching this, I realised I make almost the exact same thing but with cabbage.
Cabbage has a lot of valuable food value and ice berg lettuce has none. Go for the cabbage.
Looks so yummy. I love iceberg both raw and cooked. Surprisingly versatile and underrated vegetable.
It really is!
Iceberg lettuce has no vitamins in it,no nutrients!😝😤😆
Whenever I see cooked lettuce I think of Gordon Ramsay freaking over grilled romaine
Haha the grilled chicken salad 😂
😂😂😂
That looks Flippin Amazing! I want to try that with cabbage or any kind of leafy green veggies. Thanks so much for the amazing recipe.
You are so welcome!
That is a cabbage.
@@marym2811 No. Its iceberg lettuce.
@@Isabella66Gracen I want to believe it's lettuce, I just can't, lol. Seems like cabbage is full of vitimins and lettuce has nothing, so why bother.
If you bang the lettuce core down on the cutting board you can pull it right out in one chunk , easy peasy 😊
Gonna try this- thanks
DIY. Simply bang the lettuce core side down on cutting board. The core will come right out without cutting it.
Instead of cutting around the core of the lattice head, turn it over and smash it down on the countertop and then you can easily pull the core out. You’re not like smashing it but a good hard firm shove down on the countertop will pop that core right out
Looks good & simple. Suggestion, instead of cutting stamp smack it hard against the cutting board. This will remove it easier & faster
What are the ingredients apart from iceberg lettuce please?
Thank u for this hack, I've been trying to convince people for years that you can put heat on iceberg lettuce
My husband does something similar with romaine and ramen 😋
It's almost like Killed Lettuce...except you don't cook the lettuce. Chop it, add chopped onion, salt, pepper .mix well. Fry fatback ,remove meat and put aside...pour hot grease over mixture and toss. Add vinegar to your taste.🥗
Yes I done this before but great news you don't have to boil it just put it as stir fry in the sauce it will cook up real QUICK...without all that WATER latching onto the lettuce and less work
You can remove the core easier by hitting it on a counter, then pull it out.
Thankyou for share your receipe. Regard from Indonesian in Germany
Now if only I lived on the countryside. Love the sound of that rooster!
I love the crunch in ice berg and it’s freshness when cooked!
One of my favorite ways to eat iceberg lettuce
Looks like it would be delicious done subbed with cabbage 🥬🥬🥬 too. Being a Slav, I'm a sucker for 🥬 cabbage 🥬. But I'm game to try this too. Thanks so very much for sharing ☺️💕
Have recipe for BLT soup but restresaunt size, so havent tried it. Must have been popular as sold at a kitchen in a store. Popular in 20's- 60's.
Yep..making tomorrow 🥰🥰🥰😋😋😋
I’m American… we don’t cook lettuce 🥬 but I’m open minded and willing to try this.
Army cook taught me to lay a piece on hot grill then crack egg on top so don't overcook egg. Fried iceburg or sacrificed iceburg leaf.
That sounds really good. I will try that really soon. Thanks for the tip.
Tried it just now .. delicious and super quick and easy.👌
Made similar to this and it's really good.
I love cooked iceberg lettuce it tastes nutty! Yum yum!
That Shun is beautiful!!
This seems like a great way to eat more greens and also to reduce food waste if you got some leftover lettuce. Definitely gonna try this! As weird as boiling lettuce seems, it still looks tasty :)
Hope you enjoy! 😋
Looks & sounds delicious
Reminded me of wilted lettuce as a child. Very similar
Omg! That looks so yummy😁
Izzy
Please don’t use God’s name in vain. God bless you.
@@conniedetevis2119 whenever i use (Omg) it is meant as, "oh my gosh" I never use our Heavenly Fathers name in vain.
I think I'm gone try this but I don't do ice burg lettuces. I'm make it with cabbage. 💯
One of the only things I remember from my middle school home economics class was how to neatly smash open lettuce heads lol
What kin of sauce is that please.
This is a classic Cantonese dish… comfort food!
Look delicious have to try
Looks amazing
WOW that looks DELISH, gna have to try me some.
I grill Romaine lettuce brushed with OO and it’s delicious!!
Looks good!
You don’t need to cut the core out. Just flip it over, tap firmly, and the core separates from the leaves. Then you can pull it apart without using a knife.
I’m 67 and I’ve never seen anyone cook iceberg lettuce before! I’m quite sure there plenty of others who are more mature than you and me who have never seen this before either!
We just had this yesterday
I’m trying this but with crispy chili oil, toasted sesame seed oil, and a little dash of honey add the sesame seeds.
I cooked it. Fantastic!!! My husband licked the plate. Very tasty
Glad you liked it!!
Delicious!
I bet that would be good over cabbage.
Yo! My mom used to cook her leftover salad greens just like this! Respect!
I add it to my MaMa noodles
Looks interesting but what was it you put on it ???
When the lettuce is in the plastic wrap, just slam it down root first on the table. It will just pop out. No need to cut it out. Just a tip.🥬🥬🥬🥬🥬🥬🥬🥬🥬🥬🥬🥬
Ooh lettuce or cucumbers in stir fry it’s good, even romaine
Me: * Sees garlic and a weird sauce
First thought: Asian
I would like to try it, but with cabbage and onions.
I love lettuce like this- I’ve been cooking it similar to this for years now- except I stir fry the lettuce and garlic together, then add about a tablespoon of oyster sauce and Chinese cooking wine, and a pinch of sugar- enough water comes out of the lettuce to create a sauce!🥰🥰👍🏻
Lettuce to remove center -- place center down ward towards counter. Hit the lettuce head. On the center. It will break apart . Place your thumb into cavity of lettucehead n separate.
Note! Using a knife to cut lettuce will cause lettuce to rust faster.
Sounds good with cabbage 👌
Don’t knock it till you try it, us Cantonese people eat this all the time and it’s absolutely delicious. I’d recommend not parboiling the lettuce next time and stir frying it
In the U.S. this is called wilted salad made with bacon drippings and other ingredients.
I’m going to try this.
I want to try this
BOILED ICEBERG LETTUCE...OH YUM..I can hardly wait!
Healthy
Oh my, I just made this with some crispy Tofu and it was AMAZING! 😊
Sounds great!
No boiled lettuce for me but I’m thinking this may be good with cabbage because of the texture.
Looks good
Looks great. For those of us in other countries would you please write down what the ingredients are: no idea what sauce bottle is in uk?
It's vegetarian oyster sauce
Thank you so much.
To get the bottom out of a lattice you bang it down hard on a board
I like it better with cabbage especially with oyster sauce since it’s salty
No need to cut the core out. Just palm the lettuce head and slam it on the countertop, not super hard, just enough to dislodge the core. When you flip it over, you can pull core right out.
Wilted lettuce....sooo good. This seems similar
It would be Great if the ingredients were Posted...🤔🤯
Looks good. I would like to try some.
This is delicious, i can confirm
Simple and yummy
I really don't like cooked lettuce, but this dish looks pretty good 😋!
Slam the lettuce stem down for a quicker removal of stem
I saw someone put lettuce in pho before and I tried it...omg so good
If you guys are put off with the idea of iceberg lettuce, just try it with bok choy instead or a mustard green of some sort. It has a little more nutritional value anyways. Seonkyoung would never do us wrong though, this sauce/marinade is a staple in many Asian cultures!
Simple but yummmmyyyyy💘💘💘
Looks so good
What’s that? Garlic and ginger?
What kind of sauce she add in? I want to try it now
Childhood favorite veggie . But right now I will wait until spring . In California a head of iceberg lettuce is almost $5.00 dollars and the Romains $ 4.50 a head 😪😔
For me, lettuce is more delicious without boiling it.
I put in my Ramen noodles with fresh minced garlic, ginger , soy sauce 😋
which sauce did you put?
I'd rather do this with cabbage or spinach. There is no nutritional value in iceberg lettuce... I stopped wasting my money buying it. Will definitely try!
What are the ingredients you’re using?
Would love to see You and Mommy Tang do a collab.
It's called wilted lettuce salad. Been doing it for 30 years
Add Sesame oil at the last minute of making the sauce.
Add Sesame seeds as garnish to the sauce after adding the Sesame oil.
Options:
Add Tofu or eggplant
I like my lettuce crunchy. Sounds more like a cabbage thing
the genius from the food truck war does it again!
In Wisconsin we got the CHEEESE - but that lettuce ? Where is that beautiful head of lettuce from ???
