  • It's not the After Show, but it's our first thoughts and immediate reaction to seeing the season finale of THE ACOLYTE. Did the finale satisfy? Were all the main issues raised throughout the season wrapped up? And what does the future have in store, if any, for THE ACOLYTE? F.J. DeSanto joins us for a "first blush" review and reactions.

This first season felt like it was trying to justify that premise for a season 2. And only in season 2 did they plan on delivering that. Which sucks because at this stage season 2 doesnt seem very likely..

@@quinnjones9006 Exactly this - I came away and thought it was obvious that was what was doing. He intervened with PIP to stop Mae in ep 6 from killing Sol. But, then in Ep 8 you have 3 moments where Bazil is sneaking around watching everything and sees Sol and growling more and more suspicious of Sol acting more and more out of kilter to a good Jedi. Then the moment where he sees Sol lock weapons on Mae, he intervenes to stop him from killing Mae and PIP. He's literally intevening to preserve life, knowing Sol has been acting badly and Mae is just trying to escape.
(I'm tempted to go back and rewatch with audio descriptions on to see if they describe Bazil's physical actions).

It feels like they are so, focused, on making the Jedi look bad at the moment that I really worry if they get a second season. What are they going to do with Yoda that can carry through to the Phantom Menace. Are they going to make him yet another liar/cheat/fop like every other Jedi in this show? There was a lot of potential here but the wishy washy flip flopping of Mae and Osha just made me uninterested in their story. I loved Qimir, he has so much potential. But every Jedi is flawed and uselss. That I don't like. Also Bazil is only good after roasting on an open flame. What an annoying character, knows everything without evidence.... where have they done that before....

This episode/show has left me feeling angry and confused.
Does Vernestra really believe Sol to be a bad Jedi and a murderer; is she that stupid or is she lying through her teeth and using him as a patsy?
Why didn’t Sol explain his actions in a clear and concise manner? I guess he needed to be as obtuse as possible so the plot could get Osha to an emotional place so that she would kill him? Btw, the actress acting in that scene was so bad, lacking emotion. The lightsaber fight was awesome though. And why couldn’t Mae leave with Osha and Smilo-Ren on the same ship, why did they need to wipe her mind? Frustrating to see the two cameos and leave the plot unresolved. Why can’t we get full and complete story arcs anymore, why must there always be plot threads left hanging? What was the point of teasing Plaguis if he wasn’t going to show up and kill all of the Jedi?

An 8-episode exhibition of failed potential. This could have been SO good in the hands of a more competent writer and producer. Everything that’s here to like is immediately followed by the stupidest characters’ actions, decisions and ‘motivations’ imaginable. It is, or borders on, pure nonsense so many times that it never allows you to get fully immersed in the story and the fictional universe. I like the sets, props and costumes. Didn’t mind the studio feel except a few shots in episode 4 which just didn’t blend cgi and real-world jungle footage well. But the writing in this, omg… Focusing more on SW being SW and less on self-inserting into the story and preaching would have helped a lot too.

  • @brianinglis3805
    @brianinglis3805 Месяц назад +3

Lucasfilm really need to employ competent writers & directors. Why do other TV shows not have this problem? It's who's in charge that is the problem. They are either green lighting inferior scripts or changing scripts significantly to suit a narrative that isn't working. To be fair even a good director can't direct a bad script. You can't polish a turd.

  • @boomieboo

Just something emblematic of the incompetence of this show and Disney SW in general through the years:
The Sith guy said to "strike him down" to Mae about Sol AFTER she had already tossed her saber away making her intentions clear. So what tf did he want her to strike Sol down with? A fart? And no, a force choke wouldn't be a "strike".
I swear Disney LF consistently makes and most basic and egregious of writing errors and logic flaws. The strike him down request should've been delivered BEFORE she tossed her saber. NOT AFTER
Remember how the climax in ROTJ went? Palpatine demanded Luke to strike Vader down. Luke paused to look at his and his father's hands. Which reminded him of their bond not just of their biology. But of their blood as father and son. Then Luke threw his saber away proclaiming himself his father's son.
Logical order and sequence of events. Conflict. Suspense. Proper build. Powerfully moving resolution. Done.
But of course, that's not how Disney LF rolls. So in Acolyte Sith bro said strike our boy down AFTER THE SABER HAD ALREADY BEEN TOSSED AWAY.
Imagine if Palpatine had said strike him down to Luke after he tossed his saber aside and proudly proclaimed that he was a Jedi like his father. Would that make any sense emotionally or logically?
It's like writers, directors, and producers at Disney LF saw the OT once a long time ago, just forgot how everything happened exactly, and are now just doing their best to create their SW content from the best of what they could recall from the OT. And failing miserably at it.

If sol killed Mae yeah maybe osha would never learn sol killed lesbo mommy but she wouldn’t turn to the dark side over a lie that Mae wasn’t about to be killed by that stupid demon cloud and sol only wanted to protect the children and let osha live the life the lesbos are trying to stop her from living because they’d rather influence their own interests on the children, almost like a the witches are the exact same patriarchy they’re trying to destroy.
