Wow. Your Jerry cans are better dressed than I was for my senior prom! Strong work.
Those jerry can protectors are freakin' awesome!
Great episode, Love the improvements over the years.Perhaps putting a Sail Life logo on one one of the Jerry can covers. Perhaps it’s over the top but also possibly including Athena and a RUclips logo. Or maybe just appreciating the clean look. Athena is becoming more and more spiffy. The teamwork and attention to detail is wonderful to see.
Flammable material warnings on the covers is 100% more important than spiffying them up. Any body coming on board to fight a fire in an emergency might assume that they are water containers instead of massive fire bombs.
@@tonysutton6559 I agree. Fuel cans are flammable and should be labeled as such. My suggestion was shameless self promotion rather than safety. I was mistaken to suggest a sail life logo. Safety first. I would hate to see anything happen to Mads and Ava.
@@tommcintyre5608 There is nothing wrong with having the sail life logo as well (in fact it would look good) but we clearly mark the containors and lockers for flamable materials on the safety boats at our sailing club. We know what's in the cans and lockers but other people don't. It's not like the "good old days" when the helm of the boat could sit next to a can of petrol while puffing away at his pipe.
What brand of material did you use for your jerry cans? Ava mentioned it wasn’t sunbrella but she didn’t mention the brand that she went with. Thanks David
thank you to Ava for her section of this video! i'm ok with fiberglass work, electronics, etc. etc. ad nauseum but the mysteries of the sewing machine escape me. really look forward to learning this new skill from this channel!
I don't know if Mads has been coaching Ava, but her explanation and presentation are amazing. That was the best tutorial for sewing up those types of covers I have seen in a long time. Bravo Ava. Of course Mads is no slouch with the winch install. Athena is approaching the point of being a test bed for every type of modern electronics you can possibly put into a sailboat. Absolutely amazing guys. Have a great week ahead.
I agree. ☺️
Ava has become such a great addition to these videos. She seems very natural, confident, and knowledgeable. I look forward to her contributions in the future. Seee yoooo!
Look at you and all your centimeters references 😂😉😉. It’s takin me 1 million years to get comfortable with the metric system. Yes yes I’m in the US. Another great video
A disco light pointed to the new winch on full speed would be real trippy. Great video 2👍
Ludicrous speed for mixing drinks! LoL, well done sir. Peace
I've forgotten how much I love the box opening scenes! Awesome as always Mads!🤣
Great job on the Jerry can covers Ava, I really like how they came out.
I love the shoutout to RAN Sailing
Congratulations to Selden for supporting our much loved influencers. Your regular contributions reflect well on your corporate ethic, and will certainly inform my future buying decisions.
I must admit something. I have been watching many sailing channels since 2017 and you are, sadly, one of the newest ones i subbed to. I have almost always favoured the diy-typed channels as i work with boats and have been living closely connected to boatlife on the swedish westcoast all my life. When i start up the youtube app, i usually scroll through to see whats new from the different channels and then decide which order i should watch them in. But when you have released a new episode, i instantly click on it, as i know its going to be top quality diy work with great editing. Thank you both for the excellent work that makes my sunday nights so enjoyable!
I hesitated a long time before installing a Selden E40i . I just didn't like to loose the possibillty of using a winch manually.
Also I had already an electric winch handle.
Last winter I have installed the winch on the cabin-top too, to reefe the genoa and to hoist main sail.
Best investment for the boat after I discoverd to have a arthroses problem in the hands.
I have sold the electric winch handle because indeed you can redirect lines from other side to the winch.
And ludicrous mode? I like that one too 😇
Thank you for exellent video explanation
regards Jaap (ovni 385)
Great DIY fun guy's. Athena is looking purdy dang spiffy 👍👍💚
Very nice display of how to do it right…Love these jerrycan covers and yes CADOHA’s install on a same boat was also fun to watch…particularly Dom’s narration…
Nice job on the jerry can clothing! Sailrite is a gem.
Don't know for sure, what I liked more, the winch or the covers...both great projects well done!
:-D
I really hope to see this thing in person some day
Love the E40i ..but man .. $$ lots of dollars. I guess its amazing tech and solves space problems ..so good on Selden for the sponsorship. The can covers look fab ! Well done .. super spiffy!
Lol "finishing touches on Athena." Good one Mads
I see lots of boats carrying jerry cans and other things on deck. Let me offer a warning of what can happen. Waves do sometimes come out of nowhere, and moving water is a force most people can't imagine. In the Caribbean 1500 rally, I think 2007 or 2008, I was crew on a boat that only had 80 gal tanks, so we carried extra diesel on deck along with the inflatable dinghy rolled, bagged and lashed tightly on the foredeck. We were in the Gulf Stream which was a pretty bumpy, but not "oh shit" levels or anything. We took a rouge wave over the boat and it took everything with it. Jerry cans, dinghy... It also took whatever that stuff was tied to, stantions, lifelines, pulpit... We spent the next hour cutting away lifelines and twisted metal and EVERYTHING, us, the boat, the interior was covered in diesel from the cans getting thrown back onto the deck with every passing wave and exploding diesel everywhere. We sailed for like 9 more days with everyone sick from smelling diesel. I will NEVER go to sea for a true ocean passage in any boat that carries jerry cans, dive tanks, propane tanks, etc on deck.
The amount of wiring and boxes and work for a single ewinch was astounding. You must really need an ewinch, even if it can't be used manually (wtH !!??).
I had a similar reaction to the can covers until Ava was done, when she said it made the deck look great, and she was right, they do look quite good (spfy).
It's amazing to me how much wiring is in a boat.
If I ever buy a boat, I'll make sure the seller has OCD.
8 minutes in = Jimmy's World! 🙂
This is another one of your great videos! It will come in handy when I make covers for our new to us sailboat’s gerry cans. You guys are amazing! Thank you so much!
Hi Bethanny! Thank you so much :) We are so glad you find the videos helpful. Thank you, thank you!
Hi Ava, You’re very welcome, my pleasure.
Fast enough to call it a blender!😄😄
Jerry can cozies! Great idea! It keeps the cans out of sight, but I think it's also a good idea to keep the UV off the cans.
As always a great episode.. I really love the gerry can covers brilliant set up on deck to hold them.. an that winch is gonna come in handy for sure.. An make nights watches alot easier whilst alone...an as always having a backup is a necessity... Athena an you both have never looked happier...As I always say... Thanks for sharing your lives with us grateful for the wisdom an lessons shared✌🏼💗😊❣️
Really like the jerry can covers. They look GREAT!!. Like the electric winch idea but I think the Selden is way over complicated with data busses, PSU's and what nots. It is not any different than a vertical windlass.
Another great video Mads and Ava .
Those jerrycans look amazing. Bravo
Y’all have skills! Great video!👍
Very impressive! Great work both of you! Thanks for sharing.
Me watching Ava super attentively and learning how to make complex jerrycan covers... until I realize I’ve never sewn a sock!
Those covers look so amazing!! Well done....
Like a glove ! Good work Ava .
That is the best job of fashionably covering the on deck Jerry cans that I have ever seen. Congrats to you as I have seen so many boats with the Jerry cans sitting out on deck and looking very ugly.
Man, those Jerry can covers are awesome! Nice work!
Eva skills are amazing. Fantastic job !!!
Thanks for another awesome video.
thank you so much for sharing Terry i have being folowing you for years love your show
Sounds like it was a productive week, well done guys!
Those covers "are" sweeet. Nice job and instructional video Ava.

Great job on the Jerry can covers Ava they look really smart and tidy.
I installed an e40i last season and it has helped my back no end 😊. Great video as usual

Ava has become a great story teller! Well done! You g us are delightful.
Good job with the jerry cans!
Great Sunday viewing once again it wouldn't be Sunday without you guys lots of love Mark
Nice job on the covers. A well thought out design. Nice to see some input from Ava. The winch installation was pretty impressive too.
Those are the most magnificent jerry can covers I've ever seen.
Looking really good
Great covers Ava 👍👍👍👍👍
Great episode. You guys are very good at communicating. Thanks. 🇨🇦
Hi Ava, if you lift one side of the canvas as you cut, you can cut more quickly and make less smoke.
Jerrycan covers turned out awesome! Nice clean look to Athena.
Nice sewing skills very clean!!
Very impressive canvas work and that electric winch.. clean installation. You two are amazing craftsmen // craftswomen.
Well done great episode, that mix is the recipe good mix!
Another dollop of DIY crème. Thanks as always for a great, informative, and inspiring episode!
Cool deal, thanks for sharing!
Videos are looking better all the time. The boat is AMAZING!
I’m REALLY liking those can covers. I think those are in my future.
You are both creative and brilliant. Always interesting and very generous with information. Than you.
YAY Ava!!! very spiffy!
Really nice video. You guys are taking on some fearsome tasks and doing an awesome job. You should be very proud of yourselves.
Loved the vid. Always such positive vibes. Great presentations from both of you. John
Good job, busy, busy, busy, just like bees. Keep up the good work guys.
Great job Eva. I’m envious with your sewing knowledge. Maybe next year I’ll purchase the sailrite machine.
I enjoy Ava;s sewing projects.
Sewing? Stupid, SKIP, wait a minute...She is GOOD!!! And she explains what she is doing and why. I LIKE it, and I learned. I even learned some things about sewing!!
As always I enjoy these videos. Only own a Jetski and the stuff you do is amazing , been watching since the beginning. Keep it up.
Great Jerry can covers, you should go into business. Thanks for a very interesting vlog, good luck to you both.
Nice job on the covers.
Nice job ! Alan
Wow ! Love the jerry can covers ..... they are art work !
Electric winch is very cool.
You two can stop at NASA in Florida for jobs to fill your cruising kitty ! Lol. 🤣
Your videos are your resume ! Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Sail on.
Hello from Ontario Canada, great additions to the boat! I also second the suggestion of labeling the jerry can cover as flammable
Transferring fuel from a Jerry-can to a deck fitting while underway can usually be tricky. Here is a cool tip I discovered. Get a length of clear tubing that is fuel proof and of a diameter that fits snug to the jerry-can opening. Get the length long enough that it can go from the bottom of the can up and out the top and down long enough to fit into your deck fill and close enough that the diameter is nearly air tight. When the seas are calm enough and you are ready to transfer, move the jerry-can close to the deck fill. Insert the hose into the can and push it all the way down to be near the bottom. Put the other end into the deck fitting. Gently squeeze the can just enough until you can see that the fuel is around the bend. At that point you can stop squeezing. Voila, the siphon will start and you are spill free. Remember to try and practice this because when things are rolling you will need to be able to do all this, secure all the plastic lids and manoeuvre things one-handed while tethered.
Diesel is really a mess to deal with. Eva could probably whip together a nice fuel-resistant storage pouch for the fuel/syphon hose. Maybe a temporary Velcro pouch on it where you can temporarily whip in the plastic fuel cap pieces.
Those jellycan covers look awesome
We watched a vid this A.M. also about a Danish Gent doing repairs and improvements on his new sailboat he called Oblisk (not sure on spelling!!!) He looked somewhat like Mads but not so hyper.May have been your brother! CHEERS from Canada
I'm not sure whether this is a joke so I hope I'm not being humourless but Obelix was Mads' previous boat. He sold it several years ago after doing it up a bit like Athena but not quite so extensively. The only difference between the Danish Gent and Mads is the passage of 7 or so years.
@@joshuarosen6242 Yes and he looked different 7 years back!!! Then again so do I !!! CHEERS
happy Sunday folks!
I love how you explain us how to do it ourselves, as if I had a boat myself :(
Great work on the Jerry can covers, I've never seen better. If time permits there are covers that close fit on inflatables over the tubes to prevent sun damage. If decide to make them, I have not seen any just buy it ready made, please also include a thoughtful tutorial as you have done with the Jerry can covers.
All the best and thanks
I think Sailrite might have a video on making these. They have a ton of sewing canvas videos and kits too.
Lookin good!
You seem to have the manual winch option covered, but when batteries are low or you just need the exercise(!) it's invaluable. You can also sense the torque/restriction when you operate manually. That was an expensive freeby though, so well done! The covers look great. Our biggest issue is stowage of fenders. Great video.
Thanks I have been a viewer for many years
Wow Mark 😊 thank you so much! And thank you for sticking with us!
Nice job on those spiffy sun covers Ava. But I think I'll stick with covering my jerry cans with old T-shirts😁.
Very very coool !!!!
LOVE the can covers. Kudo's
You can use a clipper stapler for holding your seams together while sewing. It works great for leather, vinyl or canvas.
Try adding a suprise topic to each episode, feels like next week get spoiled when u mention all topics. Maybe smaller things like cooking or meeting new people, so we dont miss topics we are looking for. Thanks for the great and consistent content, always looking forward to the sunday episodes 👍❤️
Thanks!
Thank you so much! This is incredibly kind 😊
U r the best my friend
Brilliant guys. Love the covers for the fuel tanks. Super idea and design, Sell me some Ava?
Those Jerry can covers are awesome. Your boat has more tech than the Mars Rover...... :)
