I lived in Broward county. Always watched Bryan. Was only a depression when I left for vacation up north. Almost went into a ditch driving when I heard Andrew barreling down on South Miami. Knowing that entire area, I was heartbroken for everyone. Bryan saved many lives
Bryan did save many lives, especially in Country Walk and surrounding areas. Spent the night in the bathroom with 3 dogs and 3 cats then lost power for 7 days. The neighbors across the street retained power and took great care of all of us. Bryan is the best !!!
Lived in Lauderdale in the 80s and 90s. WPLG was channel 10 that had Dwight Lauderdale and Anne Bishop as main anchors. Brian Norcross was on the weaker station of either channel 4 or 6. I think channel 4. CBS or NBC affiliate. I was using a portable tv that picked up uhf and vhf channels. Channel 10 and WSVN 7 came in as good as it got. And both channel 4 and 6 were very fuzzy, but I do recall Norcross sitting with co-hosts in the back parts of the studio.
Hey Brian, remember me? I was the guy on a bike with a Blue & Gold Macaw, on Mallory Square Key West during Fantasy Fest. You said let's check out this guy with the bird. And I said let's don't and say we did. It was laundry day, I had my cleanest rags on and didnt want to be filmed. So I said Ever been flipped the bird before? Then my Blue & Gold grabbed my finger and I flipped him onto my hand. You ran the other way. Well now I'm 73 yrs old, and you're not no spring chicken yourself. Those were the good old days. You just caught me on laundry day is all. No hard feelings, you still report the best hurricane info. Now I live In Tallahassee, and hope this darn storm takes another direction. Was at ground zero on 8/24/92 Country Walk . Always feel for those who are on the bullseye and get hit . Now with home insurance state costs going up , its multi layer problems AFTER the storm , which is more painful if u survive as I did with Andrew in 1992 , its the human red tape that hits harder than the storm. Reason its harder, you are down . I was down . My neighborhood was bulldozed to the ground , took 2.5 yrs to rebuilt . Rent payment and mortgage on a home that was only a concrete slab . So all of this weather related problems , is not man made , which the man made problems hurt worse . Florida has been home since 1966 , all parts of Florida or in the United States has its on problems as I have tried to live in other places , but here we are , can it be better ? Yes , but it can worse . I share because I care , because this weather is but a small part of the larger problem . ENJOY EACH DAY . 1 DAY AT A TIME .
Yeah when I lived in commie fornia mine cancelled my entire policy while a wildfire was coming towards our home. Not joking they really did. It was paid up to date too. They did this over the phone.
Grew up on the Texas Gulf Coast and saw my share of hurricanes. We always kept canned goods and drinking water in stock all year. Stores empty out so quickly in these events. We also never let the car get below half a tank to allow for emergency evavuation. We filled the bathtub and kept buckets and plastic bags for "potties" because toilets don't flush when the water surges. Today I keep a bucket of kitty litter for liquid waste and lots of adult wet wipes to take care of solid waste. I recommend having a tight fitting lid on a bucket for waste disposal and lots of Lysol or other odor control products when sheltering in place.
