I hate this for Florida and all the people affected with these storms. I just got back to Ga from Asheville. I spent Friday and Saturday helping clear roads and cleanup so new temporary roads can be built. It’s horrible up there. Wishing you all in the path safety and good luck.

Bryan is unquestionably the best in the business. He has made his life’s work understanding hurricane behavior. He has always shown the conscientious attention to explaining weather behavior and conveying it to the lay public without the unnecessary drama. He was mentored by the ‘greats’ at the NHC back when he was a very young man. That dedication saved lives and property by urging preparedness in South Florida when we got a direct hit by Cat 5 Andrew. Can never fully express the respect and gratitude for being our ‘voice in the dark’ on that terrifying night.

Brian PLEASE explain in all of your updates not to just pay attention to the twirly thing or just the cone - for over 20 years and up to yesterday - I cannot believe how many people think just the center of circulation is the hurricane - Please explain that sometimes outside the center can be more dangerous - look at HELENE! I feel like this is not explained enough because everyone only shows the cone and the red twirly!!! I cannot tell you how many people don't understand how vast a hurricane is - Helene was 400 miles at one point! That is how many miles it is from areas hit in TN to Tallahassee!!! This is important! Thank you - I have been watching you since Andrew! You are the best!

If Milton hits the southern third of the cone, it will be similar to Wilma, 2005. We were surprised that it crossed the peninsula and remained a 3 through its exit in south Florida. In southern palm beach county we were without power for 14 days. Crossing the bottom of the peninsula doesn’t slow it down because it’s not only flat, but very wet swamps with very warm water. Be ready.

@@stephenmorton8017 I respectfully disagree. There were some forecasters yesterday hyperventilating about a category 5 in the central gulf by Monday. A bit over the top I would say. Besides, if you live in Florida, you should be hurricane, snake bite, bug bite, sinkhole, flash flood, road construction, road rage, traffic crash, ECT, ECT, prepared 24/7 365. The only certainty here is uncertainty. We got more rain after Helene than we did during Helene. As I write this it is raining and the ditches and retentions are full.

"Hurricanes are considered essential for Earth because they play a vital role in regulating global temperatures by transferring heat from the tropics towards the poles, essentially acting as a natural mechanism to maintain the planet's energy balance; despite their destructive potential, they are a necessary part of Earth's climate system"

This trending, of the track shifting southerly seems like an early sign of good news that could be in store for the Tampa Bay Area. The tracking at the point that this storm approaches landfall, apparently is going to be influenced by strong shear and dry air putting pressure on it from the north, possibly weakening it and also steering it more in a southerly direction. Still a lot of other factors that could change where it comes ashore, and which populations will receive the really bad surge.
