Thank you for going to Cotacachi. Still trying to convince my wife to give Ecuador a second look. The government of Ecuador should thank you for portraying their country in such a good light.
@DL, with all due respect, Ecuador needs no portraying in a good light. It is what it is. To be honest I wish no one knew about this tiny gem! My fear is that it will change. 😒 🇪🇨
The RUclipsr expatriate second passport are not pleasant with Ecuador, is very strict and does not express himself well of Cotacachi, Salinas, beaches etc I wonder, if he does not like Ecuador so much, because he still lives in Ecuador? Hehe
You walk around like it's your own country, nobody says anything to you, nobody looks at you in a different way, everybody is super generous, and most important everybody is really helpful. I wish it was the same here in the U.S. Love your videos.
You did a great job. I have lived in Cotacachi for 9 years and have no plans to return to the U.S. or anywhere else. Cotacachi is the perfect little town for me and much like the U.S. used to be in the 40s and 50s. I have traveled the World and the people here are the best. It is more quiet than usual during the pandemic, which Ecuador handled fantastically. Everyone in Cotacachi wears masks. It is a place with fiestas almost weekly when we are pandemic free.
I’ve been binge watching your videos and this one made me cry. It’s so beautiful andI guess the music and scenery got to me lol I’m so unhappy here in the states. My family feels the same and we are in the early planning stages. Thank you for sharing the beauty of Ecuador with us.
Why WOULD any body give ur vid a thumbs down is beyond me. Thanks for promoting my country in such a beautiful manner. So glad you guys feel at home. The government should give u a special congressional mention and validation for spreading all over the wonders of this land and its people. I am amazed how you guys enjoy so profoundly what to me is so obvious and almost ordinary. Shame on me! Much love from Guayaquil!
Thank you Amelia and JP for the wonderful video. i could not stop crying. My husband and I lived in Otavalo then Ibarra for 8 years, we had to move back to the states for family and health reasons I have been on those very streets to many times to count this brought back some great memories. I didn’t realize how much I miss Ecuador.
Wow-- It's been a couple of decades since I've been in Ecuador an my how things have changed. It was my winter vacation spot for a number of years and I loved driving around the country. It's size makes it perfect as a tourist. Cotacachi was mostly a short stop to visit the leather shops for handbags and leather coats-- not what u need in Manta but was great to have in New England. Otavalo was always my favorite place to spend a couple of days and thanks for the great vids that make me want to go back again.
I am catching up on all of your videos, and am more and more impressed each time. I just turned 50 this year, and retirement in the right place is now top of mind for me. I would never have thought of a place like Ecuador as a place to live, but my mind is becoming more open to these ideas. Thank you!
So unbelievable… I watched you both before moving here more then a year ago. And now you’re in my city! So awesome, and great job on how well you highlight Cotacachi! 😄👏
I’m glad Amelia and JP you got a feel of Cotacachi. It is breath taking and local shop owners take time to clean every day. It is safe and nature is at its best. I’m its mother’s nature son, born and proud.
So glad you did this video and look forward to the next ones. We are moving to Cotacachi in October and loved seeing our new home. Will share your video with our friends and family so they'll get an idea of what our new home looks like.
My dad is from Quito but his roots are from Cotacachi 🥰 I love his country; even my moms family 🇨🇴 prefers Ecuador 🇪🇨. My hubby is Swiss 🇨🇭 & before we ever met he wanted to marry a South American girl from these regions & wanted to visit Ecuador. We ended up meeting In my home state NY 4 years ago 🤪 Happily married almost 2 years now ❤️🤵🏻👰🏻
This video made me homesick and wish I was back there. It is an amazing place with wonderful people! The variety of restaurants and coffee shops makes going out new each time.... but we had our favorites.
Very nice city! Over thirty years ago I found a solution for my terrible altitude headaches. Living at sea level in Santa Monica, California, and spending a weekend in Victorville (2,700 ft, Cajon Pass 3,700 ft), in the high desert, I would develop a pounding headache soon after my arrival. Tylenol, Advil, Excedrin gave no relief. Then a friend clued me in to the fact that the pain relievers didn't work because the problem is that the altitude changes the blood chemistry. He recommended taking two Asprin a couple hours before my trip and sure enough this worked! I've never suffered again from the affects of altitude. I would be anxious to know if Asprin works as well for you at the extreme altitudes of Ecuador. Please let me know if you give this remedy a shot. Love your channel.
It's amazing how much more livable these towns in South America are than anything we have here in the States. It's so much cleaner and safer and there's an appreciation for the historical and artistic aesthetic of the place. A simple thing like cobble stone streets and brick or tiled sidewalks looks so much nicer than concrete and asphalt, which is what we'd do here in the States. I watch videos of travelers to Africa, and there too is the European influence of cobbled streets and brick sidewalks that lends the place a more pleasant ambience to linger and/or explore.... I visited Ecuador for 2 months in 1993 and stayed in Otavalo for over a week. I visited the Cotacachi volcano and its lake, and I think Cotacachi town as well, but somehow I don't remember it being so developed. More like a tiny hamlet at the time....
Thank you so much for showing to the world our beautiful Ecuador. I started crying as soon I watch the mountains, it made me realize how much my heart misses my beloved country from the nature, the people we have too much awesomeness. Thank you guys and enjoy la Sierra ❤️🤗🐾❤️
I went to Cotacachi as a side trip from Otavalo and that area. Cotacachi has amazing leather products! I bought several items at extremely low prices with excellent quality and after about 8 years my briefcase and bag are still in great shape. This whole region of Quito/Otavalo/Cotacachi has great tourist potential. I'm not sure why it is overlooked.
i've lived in Cotacachi for almost 9 years. You were looking at a house (2nd floor) while you were here and I live downstairs, so would have liked to have met you both, maybe next time? Glad you had a wonderful experience here and yes we have just about everything.
This whole video was muy tranquilo! JP, your drone work was superb! Cotacachi is on our list to visit, of course, we just haven't made it yet. Looks like you have new pup friends, they'll know you when you go back. ☺ Great seeing your faces! ❤❤
This is a lovely video. Our whole First month in ecuador was spent in. Cotacachi. We love that place. Hope you went to Cuicocha, the volcanic caldera lake! And the park at the lake beneath Imbabura is really worthwhile too.
Be sure to eat at Subs (Breakfast sandwich or the German Breakfast, or a pretzel bun) at the San Francisco Park, Solid Rock Cafe - Blueberry pancakes - go to the Mercado by the bus station at the top of Leather Street, and Thursday's morning market - behind the plaza at San Francisco park.
Amelia and JP, as always thanks for sharing your experiences. Similar to you when I get to a new destination I just love walking around and getting lost (to a degree) and finding my way back. The freedom to explore is so wonderful and it is nice to watch you both in the process together to find the next delight. Peace and may the upcoming holiday season be joyous to you both.
Was really nice to see Imbabura and Lago San Pablo. Thanks so much for filming it. Amazing how Otavalo has changed yet looks familiar after so many years. BTW, Atahualpa's birthplace and the site of the room filled with gold for his ransom is just uphill from Ibarra. ... When I was a kid, you could hire a motorboat to drop you off on one of Cuicocha's islands and fish and spend the night. We did that once or twice, amazing place.
My husband and I loved Cotopaxi. We spent two days in a hacienda at the foot of the volcano. The room was incredible with fireplaces and warm bricks to keep your feet warm. Our stay was not long enough. Cotapaxi was magical. .
I'm an ex-pat from California. Maria and I have been married nine years and we'll celebrate our tenth anniversary and my second year here in Lima. I understand there are about six thousand Americans living here. The currency rate of exchange makes our lives so much more affordable here. We're both 75, and loving it.
Thank you for this deeply moving and inspiring video. Loved the doggies on all the streets, looking good, well fed and just enjoying the view of daily activities. They look like guardians of their town. Thank you for this heartfelt video which reminds us that we, Ecuadorians, do live in an amazing country made by wonderful people and incredible places, always willing to thrive for the best for everyone. J
We arrive back in Cotacachi on the 1st of November - our 5th trip there, because we love it so much. We plan to retire there in the very near future. Thanks for this video. It really shows why we love it so much.
@6:46 that’s what we call Lantana in the states. It is a really neat flower that changes colors as it blooms. They attract butterflies like crazy and hummingbirds like them too.
Hoping to rent a motorcycle and do an exploratory ride of my top prospective retirement locations, and Cotacachi is on that list. Keep up the great work you two. I love your positive outlook on life!
Moved here two years ago. Love it here. I’m sorry I missed seeing you here! The biggest benefit, and there are many, of living here is the insane political climate in the US is far away from here. I have lost contact with all my friends and family due to this insanity so I hope the expats you invite will respect this: People here accept and respect the science of epidemiology so those planning on moving here or visiting please, leave the insanity of science deniers and anti-vaxers in the US. “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.” -Mark Twain And remember, the many indigenous communities here are inherently more at risk and deserve your consideration.
COMO ECUATORIANO, AGRADESCO A TODOS LOS TURISTAS QUE HAN LLEGADO, ALGUNOS SE HAN QUEDADO, OTROS, HAN ESTADO DE PASO, PERO SIEMPRE HAN HABLADO BIEN DE ESTE PEQUEÑO Y LINDO PAIS, Y LES AGRADESCO PORQUE SON USTEDES QUIENES DAN A CONOCER CON SUS AVENTURAS LO QUE ES ECUADOR, TRABAJO QUE DEBERIAN REALIZAR LAS AUTORIDADES DE TURISMO. POR TODO Y POR MUCHO MAS GRACIAS, POR DAR A CONOCER AL MUNDO EL PAIS DE LOS 4 MUNDOS.
Wonderful video love to see the mountains landscapes of the country I was born my heart is racing thank you A great place there are lots of Expats in this part of the country
Nice video! It is amazing how other cultures can live at their own style and pace. Beautiful places, naturally and as a society. I love how humans can adapt their land and life style in different creative and enjoyable ways. We need this variety to enrich our own life and to inspire other's as well. Diversity and respect is the way to happiness. Thanks for sharing these beautiful videos and to show that a different life style is possible!
Wow, nice place and great video work; glad to see the countryside and town. You guys certainly did make the right decision to move to Ecuador. All the best from 🇨🇦
We are SO enjoying your videos. We started our expat adventure in Boquete', Panama, however, like Cuenca for you both, we found it to be too cold and rainy. We are now living in a little fishing village on the Azuero Peninsula called Pedasi'. We hope to visit Ecuador in the near future. When we do, we'd love to meet you both in person.
Hubby and I were just in Cotacachi a week or so ago. It was absolutely beautiful! We can't wait to get back there. Thanks for sharing your views of Ecuador. Such an amazing country!!
wish we had time to go to Cotacachi that place looks so nice ! we were able to go to Termas de papallacta ..hot springs, just before we left Ecuador what a drive! up the andes and i believe that area is just the beginning of the Amazon... so beautiful ! thanks for inspiring us to visit Ecuador ! we will be Back soon ... hopefully to purchase something !
Super, thanks Amelia and JP. I've been waiting for this one. So far it looks great there (possible retirement spot for me) Will you be talking about the cost of living in Cotacachi on the upcoming videos while you're there? This place looks nicer than I've seen online. Thanks guys, absolutely awesome.
Glad you found it helpful! The cost of living there is very similar to Cuenca, and much cheaper than the coast. We recorded a real estate tour that will give you an idea for housing costs.
Thanks Guys, absolutely beautiful like J.P., joking J.P.( did not want you to feel left out after Alex C. comment) Ya´ll are both Beautiful especially because of all you share with us. Thank You! Wife and I about to return there to Sangolqui near Quito. Working on logistics for bringing her 5 cats. Any tips or advice from anyone would be helpful.
Oh my! now you made it to my city!!! It is exciting to see it and I know you will want to move to Quito! Enjoy Amelia and JP :)) And Thank you for all the positive statements, you are awesome! If you want to meet my cousin and her husband (They are also your super followers) they are in Cotacachi ...
The town was my least favorite living there! La Calera is What I loved was living between the two volcanoes and how each trip I might have to take to Quito….I’D be amazed how…green and fresh it got as you leave Quito and drove to Cotachachi! Green, fresh aroma, flowers, farms, beautiful Quishwa people!
Cusco, at 12,000’ is way higher and altitude sickness more common in visitors. Cotacachi, in contrast, is at just barely over 8,000’. Individual tolerance of altitude varies greatly but local pharmacies will advise you as to the best remedy.
Thanks for sharing this video. It brings back many fond memories of Ecuador. The mountains, the scenery, all the street dogs. Did you see any orchids in the Quito airport? On my last trip to Quito I sat beside a gentleman that was returning from an orchid show in the US. He owns an orchid farm near Cuenca and told me that his company decorates the Quito airport with orchids! The orchids were beautiful.
Wow! Beautiful! Thank you for showing off another awesome destination in Ecuador! If JP would wear the Hawaiian print shirt, there would be no elevation problems! Love you guys, thanks for the video!
Great job you two!! so informative and the camera work is outstanding! I'll be heading your way when my lease is uo in March. Currently in San Luis Potosi in MX. Cannot wait until I see more of Cotacachi!
Love Cotocachi.. There is a huge mercado..I didnt see it in your video. There you can find Ecuadorian art, clothing, hats...great place for souvenirs. My friends from the States love that huge outside mercado. But really enjoyed seeing Quito from the air and the Volcano's and the road to Cotocachi..👍👍I wished I knew you were coming...I would of bought you a vegan pizza my daughter makes at her Pizzeria plus vegan cheese she manufactures..El Naranjo in Nayon.🍕
I read about the climate and it said the days are generally between 70 and 80 degrees and the nights between 50 and 60. That is perfect! No need for heating or cooling. Open some windows at night then warm up a little during the day.
We are Canadians retired living at Lake Chapala Mexico, 30 minutes south of Guadalajara. We are so interested in Equator especially Cotacachi! Might be time for a relocation!!
For a little over 17 minutes I was in Cottacache Equador and enjoyed every second with you guys. Thank you so much. JP I had to go to the hospital in Montrose Co. with altitude sickness. I thought I was having a heart attack ! It happened several years ago when we were pulling our 5th wheel all over Colorado.
This video is excellent, I found the music, how you filmed it, everything, very inspiring!! I'm an Ecuadorian living in the US, and wanting to return to Ecuador for all the reasons you always show us. Thank you!
I have not looked at your videos in a little while so I thought I check on you two and I'm happy to see how much your channel has been growing. 😃 PS... I still wish I was there 😭
Thank you for going to Cotacachi. Still trying to convince my wife to give Ecuador a second look. The government of Ecuador should thank you for portraying their country in such a good light.
I agree. I know no better ambassadors than Amelia & JP. They are by far the best spokespeople for this country.

15 minutes north of Cotacachi - check out the small community of San Antonio - a wood-carving artisan town.

This is amazing like all your videos. Thank you thank you always for giving me my fix of my beautiful birth country. You both are the best!
Thanks for watching!
Cotacachi beautiful place.
Amazing Village and Country but your Film making skills are really superb , especially the drone shots . congrats , a great channel .
Thanks a lot 😊
Thanks Guys, absolutely beautiful like J.P., joking J.P.( did not want you to feel left out after Alex C. comment) Ya´ll are both Beautiful especially because of all you share with us. Thank You! Wife and I about to return there to Sangolqui near Quito. Working on logistics for bringing her 5 cats. Any tips or advice from anyone would be helpful.
Glad you enjoyed it
Oh my! now you made it to my city!!! It is exciting to see it and I know you will want to move to Quito! Enjoy Amelia and JP :)) And Thank you for all the positive statements, you are awesome! If you want to meet my cousin and her husband (They are also your super followers) they are in Cotacachi ...
I miss Ecuador 🇪🇨
The town was my least favorite living there! La Calera is What I loved was living between the two volcanoes and how each trip I might have to take to Quito….I’D be amazed how…green and fresh it got as you leave Quito and drove to Cotachachi! Green, fresh aroma, flowers, farms, beautiful Quishwa people!
I like your channel, I am ecuatorian...thanks because you love my country
What a great looking city. Looks like the best places in Ecuador are all at about 8000' or higher.
I had elevation sickness in Cusco. 3 afternoons of mate de coca provided by my hostess and no more problems for the entire trip
Cusco, at 12,000’ is way higher and altitude sickness more common in visitors. Cotacachi, in contrast, is at just barely over 8,000’. Individual tolerance of altitude varies greatly but local pharmacies will advise you as to the best remedy.
Cuzco’s elevation hit me hard as well. It was a big relief to take the train down to Aguascalientes, the town close to Machu Picchu
I LOVE AMELIA & JP...THEY BOTH ARE ADORABLE💖💫
What a beautiful town. Great video. Thanks.
I've been enjoying all of your videos, but the style of this one was so satisfying!
Looks lovely! Nice to see places I never got to during my time in Ecuador.
What a pretty city!! 🌸🌸
Wow! Beautiful! Thank you for showing off another awesome destination in Ecuador! If JP would wear the Hawaiian print shirt, there would be no elevation problems! Love you guys, thanks for the video!
I was transported in this video! Thank you for sharing this special place with us! Awesome video 👏🏽👏🏽♥️ hugs from NY!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Gorgeous place , amazing video ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you very much!
That looks like such a great town!
I really enjoyed that! Thanks so much.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
perfect music on the magic freeway into...Cotacachi!
Nice video guys😃 espero la segunda parte.
I have not looked at your videos in a little while so I thought I check on you two and I'm happy to see how much your channel has been growing. 😃
PS... I still wish I was there 😭
