  • This video demonstrates in a very easy way how to solve pediatric safe dosage calculations you're required to solve in nursing school.
    This problems details that the patient weighs 48 lbs and is ordered 850 mg PO (by mouth) q8hr (every 8 hours). The safe dose range for this patient is 100-300 mg/kg/day. You need to determine if this is a safe dose for the patient.
    To solve this problem you can use the formula: kg x min./max. dose = dosage

    I just wanted to mention no matter how easy or hard the calculation is you should always have two nurses calculate even though it’s not in protocol. It should be in your protocol for pediatrics.
