    Great video! Sorry I can't meet up with you guys in Texas. At 5:40 you happened to capture a pretty unique and potentially devastating phenomenon that can happen to arrows in flight. Drew's arrow launches great, but something happens 'out there' before it hits the target. That something is called resonance, when the rolling rate of the arrow matches the pitching frequency, or more likely in this case, the bending frequency of the arrow shaft. Troy and I did quite a few tests on this and I presented the results at the ATA this past January. Be sure to chat him up about it when you see him this weekend! Cheers - Darrel (aka Rocketman)

    There ain't nothin' more frightenin' than drivin' with a live cougar in the car. If you're calm, that wonderous big cat will be calm too. But if you're scared, that beautiful death machine will do what God made it to do, namely, eat you with a smile on its face.

    I would like to see a video with you guys completely guessing yardages. Walk up to the stake, no range finder. And see who does better, 650 grain or 430 grain. I see both sides of the story with arrow weight. I shoot for around 475 to get a good happy medium (for me). Last week me and a few buddies had to shoot the last 12 targets at at 3D course without a rangefinder because of battery issues. This was a big eye opener for us (we all shoot different arrows ranging from 370 grain to 575). Troy brings A LOT to the table on his RUclips page. Wealth of knowledge. I just don’t stand by having such a heady arrow for most situations. Guessing yardages is a huge factor in that.

      I do this all the time using the EZV bow sight. No need for a range finder.

      This is a good point, but im guessing from watching the video Drew is a 30”< draw guy and 600gr with those draw lengths is still relatively incredible in terms of desired trajectory. Those long draw guys have a big big advantage.

  • @ronaldirvineII
    @ronaldirvineII 6 месяцев назад

    Anyone else notice how drew draws his bow. I've seen others do the same it seems very odd to me and I keep waiting for his bow to derail. But that's what is so amazing about archery is everyone has different setups and things that work for them.

    I can appreciate that exercise. It’s best to practice on conditions that one will see in the field, not just a static target 🎯 or perfect weather condition. Much respect ✊ and way to go Drew (my middle name is Andrew) on winning the challenge with a much heavier arrow setup. 💪🏻😎🏹🦌

    I'm curious if everyone put their sight at the known distance and then guesstimated how much to hold high or low...or if they guesstimated how the difference from known distance and adjusted their slider sight.

      This is a great question.

    • @wadeasbill4953
      @wadeasbill4953 2 года назад

      Probably not Because they were trying to simulate if the animal moved on you at the last second and you had to set you yardage for what you though it was and shoot them range after.

    • @houghtonic1975
      @houghtonic1975 2 года назад

      @@wadeasbill4953 It wasn't a yes/no question. It was a which method did they use question. All of them have sliding pin sights. Lets say they range at 40 then walk a few steps.... I was wondering if they were adjusting the sliding pin based on how much they felt that distance changed whether that be 42 or 43 yards, etc. (not re-ranging, but estimating), or if they kept their pins at 40 and just held high/low based on feel. Both are possible in hunting. I would say holding high or low is more realistic for hunting because looking down to change your slider the animal could move again or any number of things.

    • @wadeasbill4953
      @wadeasbill4953 2 года назад

      @@houghtonic1975 I think they were taking a known yardage and acting as if a animal took a few steps so they adjusted to what they thought it was and shot.

  • @JoshWheelers
    @JoshWheelers 2 года назад +1

    Try ranging the tree next to, behind or in front of the target then shoot. Similar to ranging before the animal arrives and then adjusting to where it actually walks out.

    • @archeryhunter86-
      @archeryhunter86- 2 года назад

      Thats a good idea. I was thinking its easier to guess how far you moved than it is to guess how far somethimg else moved that is already 40 yards away from you. Your idea would be better then having someone move the target for you.
      Personally I like to try to guess the range if I think it is 40 or less then shoot and check the range. Its a good practice method that prepares you for shots when you don't have time to range.

    Cool vid guys. I am all about this as well as practicing gap shooting. My first two out of state hunts for nilgai and elk both had animals spook and stop at distances I had to guess in the heat of the moment. I am sure without the practice I put in they would have been unsuccessful shots. Keep the content coming.

    Excited to see you guys make a video together. For 3d and long range hunting (wich I have yet to dabble in) I take a lot of advice from you guys but also on the other hand when it comes to shooting a whitetail at 20 yards I would prefer a hammer of an arrow when trajectory and speed don't matter. Great content

    Never thought of it, but that is a great idea. I haven't had an animal just stop at the exact range I first ranged it at. I am always guessing by a couple yards I feel like.

      I shoot an EZV & practice most of my practice shots from a 🌳. The EZV is the combo of likeing an open sight window without having to set the yardage on a slider sight. It has more to do with a vertical pin setup & the opposite of a multiple horizontal pin setup. Many shoot a recurve well @ long distances. I always shot a recurve well bowfishing. However I hunt with a compound & my choice on it is an EZV.

    Really enjoyed this video. Would have gladly watched another dozen targets or more, with even more detail showing how the offsets happened and everyone shooting each target, similar to your TAC videos. Another great job!! Interested in seeing an updated stabilizer video. Looks like everyone is using pretty long stabilizers.

    Great video. I dont do the walk back but I do guess the yardage when coming up to a target, i shoot and then range it. It is quite difficult with the lighting sumtimes. You all should come out to olympia July 2nd and 3rd for a 3d shoot. You can camp at the range and shoot 50 3d targets Saturday and sunday. You won't be disappointed it does give you a workout. Let me know it would be great to shoot a round or 2 with you.
