Wow, I'm incredibly grateful that my story of moving + thriving abroad has inspired so many beautiful souls to take the leap and soar. If you're pondering on whether you should move, let this be your message that this is your time to do just that. I've been connecting with a few expats on this end of the world and I'm always happy to help provide resources to help support people's need to find a sense of belonging within a new community. I host meditation sessions for women of colour through 'Brown Girl Bloom' and often women create new lifelong bonds after the sessions. Come join in if Perth, Western Australia is on your radar (instagram.com/browngirlbloom/) Lastly, I will be making more 'Life in Australia vlogs' to take everyone on a journey of what day-to-day life is like for me as an African-American woman living in Western Australia. I'm active (+ incredibly passionate) in the wellness space, Aboriginal community and African Australian community, so I'm excited to share some authentic stories with everyone. Here's to the season of blooming in all of our glory 🌻
What a beautiful human you are , obviously beautiful on the outside but your attitude plus brave to move away from all you know.. Most Aussies really like and respect Black Americans , it's a generalized, we probably see alot of those positive attributes, maybe that us stereotyping but hopefully that's a positive for you .. It still comes down to attitude , character and how you view each experience , skin colour or origin won't matter , it is about who you are..I have two Black American friends , just plain out nice people , great manners , get involved locally and share conversations about both countries , we have no PC , we speak honestly and respectfully and become great mates.. I am glad your experience has been positive , my wife is not caucasian and a migrant , her experience has been mostly positive , like any country , you may get one or two just won't like you , I have experienced it as a white in other countries , you may experience it here or elsewhere.. Anyway , you bring value to our country , a great attitude , welcome and I hope you live the country as most Aussies will be very excepting.. If people stare at you , it may be because of beauty but often out of interest as well , as I found travelling into my wife's country , mostly it was positive.. Love your post

A lot of Americans don't realise that a huge amount of us Australians arrived on this continent with shackles on our ankles and as prisoners, and then used as slave labour. The trans-Atlantic slave trade had ended by the British Empire before the colonisation of Australia began, hence we had no slaves coming from Africa, and the powers that be decided to turn Britain's poorest into slaves by making any petty crime punishable by transportation. Its so refreshing to hear someone going somewhere other than Melbourne and Sydney! Perth is such a beautiful city with a lot of great diversity and amazing food! Good luck in your new life over here♡
I am a white Aussie and I know I cannot speak about a black person's experience here but I do know that Australia does treat everyone better. My sister has an African American boyfriend who lives in Australia and he is so much happier here as he has said he had been harassed by cops in the US too many times to count, but here he had to learn how different cops here are. He has been here for 5 years and hasn't ever had any issues with cops here. He hasn't experienced any racial hate either or any kind of gun violence as people in Australia don't really have guns. He has children from a previous relationship and is so thankful that his kids can go to school safely here as we don't have any school shootings. He has free healthcare so does his kids.
Such a beautiful and real video with a lot of meaningful self-reflection. As an Aussie, I’m proud to have you with us and to hear your voice! Thank you 🙏
"... now you're living with intent." Those words are soooo powerful, and I wish I'd known when young that I could do that. It's such an important realisation to have while young enough to capitalise on that intent, rather than the intent of some soulless organisation. You became wise while young because you took a giant leap into the unknown. Inspiring stuff.
Thanks so much for sharing! I moved to Adelaide from Miami fl. I am a city girl to the max so the move was extremely difficult. I experienced culture shock for the first year. It was tough. I moved back home 2 years later but now that I have residency I’m heavily considering moving back this summer. Overall quality of life is much better in my opinion
Adelaide a few years ago was the worst. How long ago did you live in Adelaide? As another poster mentioned look at Sydney or Melbourne if you plan on moving back.
Darrisha Robinson I find Melbournians to be friendly and open. Adelaide locals have an inflated sense of self, are insular and a bit backwards. I hope Melbourne works out for ya.
Hi Valery, thank you for your video! This senior, white, Australian woman needed to hear your story today, to remind me of some issues in my life that I address and need to address again at this particular time. Sometimes, over many decades of life, things can get put aside by unavoidable life events and then stay put aside, responsibilities can be unavoidable, and we can lose touch with the the things we need to maintain our sense of self, so we need a conscious recommitment to the most important things in our personal inner life. They're crossroad times, and I'm at one of them now, so I appreciate your message and reminder. Life can't always be joy, as we all know, things happen out there in the wider world, and then there are emergencies, accidents, and at my age it's working at maintaining body, mind and soul more purposefully as well. So, I am on that journey of working out, once again, how I live my life on a daily basis so that it brings me the greatest peace and purpose. Thank you!
Subscribing. Im currently in a transition period in my life where I'm trying to find my passion and make plans to move away from the USA. This is inspiring. Thank you!
I'm so happy for your decision to move to Australia lovely young lady!My parents came from U.K in 1950s and it was the best decision they ever made .With 5 children in tow .Living in Tasmania is so much like U.K you should visit after Covid! Best of luck for the future!
I am just so moved at your need to know your limitations and still exceed them. You have everything you need in OZ, and that’s, just give me a “fair go”, that’s the deal breaker. Your honesty, and measured approach is inspiring. You will elevate all of us great to have you here.
Do you know Australia is belongs to black indigenous people and some of us still have our own indigenous languages tribes ... Welcome to Australia sister 🇦🇺 stay safe and God blessed you 🙏😇🌼❤️✝️🌾🐟🍞
Yes, my first friendship in Australia was with an Indigenous woman (Noongar) and I learned quite a lot from her (and still do to this day, along with all of my other Indigenous friends from different tribes in WA). Thank you sis and God bless you too 🌿
I love your video I grew up in America Near Chicago and California but currently I live in Europe between Bulgaria and Greece I moved back home 2 years ago , one of my dreams in my life is to visit Australia I always want it to see what’s out there and I always wanted to live in Australia 🇦🇺 as a traveler I been all over the world 🌎 but still haven’t been to Australia I will love to visit one day !!!! Keep up with your Chanel and have a great summer !!!!! ❤️🌎😍😍😍
You pegged it lady , inner contentment is the way to happiness, being alone in the bush for long periods at a time has established this contentment in me and I have strong barriers that defend my peace. Thank you for your insightful explanation
I've been living overseas on expatriation since I was 3 years old. I also lived in Australia in Perth for 6 months with my family as a young high schooler. I now speak 4 languages and have had so much international experience I'm hoping to keep globe hopping in the future!
You never know until you give it a go ;-) My wife is Canadian, she took a chance 15 years ago when I met her when I was traveling through North America, 5 weeks after I came home she came to join me and now has a beautiful life here in Australia. I'm proud that my children are half Canadian, I went looking for something I felt in my heart was out there and found it. We humans need diversity, it is what makes us all so special. Our differences make us unique, our characteristics show that we are all of one race... The human race. The best way to feel that energy, is to try some of that difference for yourself (even if it is just a slight difference from what you are used too i.e. speaking the same language etc)... it's an awakening of the soul. ;-) Listen to your heart (not your head), you'll choose what is right for you. I wish you all the best in your future endeavors. :-)
Whewwwwwww chileeeeeee four minutes in and I can relate. Came across your video because I’m moving somewhere. I’m 24 and I’m taking a risk. Leaving the United States is a must!!! Thank you for sharing and giving input
University-educated Nigerian American. Pretty typical of that culture, much respect for their respect for higher education. I love your honesty, your openness and candidness.
Exactly right. Nigerian American. I don't know why they call themselves African American when they are clearly Nigerian? Being raised in America doesn't make you a part of that group or their heritage. Why do they do this?
I love this video. I was worried about moving to Australia. You gave me the courage to really want to go through with it. I am in the same situation as in your story.
G'day from Australia 🇦🇺 I was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, but my parents are from Morocco, North Africa. They moved to Australia in the 1960s😁👍
Omg thank you for sharing your story with us. Very impactful and inspiring! I'm a singer/dancer/actor from Texas, my agent landed me an 8 month contract that is out of Sydney Australia and it literally starts in 2 weeks! I am very nervous but I think my excitement from doing what I love to do and also getting to travel and see the world out-weighs the nerves a bit, and I'm looking forward to the alone time for sure haha. Thanks again and I hope your 2022 has been off to a great start!
Congrats on this beautiful new chapter in your life, you will definitely grow in ways that you could not fathom through traveling and living abroad. All the best with your journey 💚
Brisbane or South East Queensland is the best place to live in Australia. The beaches are beautiful, the houses are beautiful and affordable when compared with Sydney and Melbourne. And the beaches on the Sunshine and Gold Coast are world renowned. It is also good to hear positive stories about Australia from people of colour as Australians are very welcoming. One only tends to hear the negatives. Perth is great but so isolated. Good luck with your life.
Well said! I am grateful to of found this video. I am currently living in a different state than my family and I,too,am stopping doing things thsmat don't bring me joy. I love doing what I love, and I am making those changes and one of them is moving to another country.
Thanks for this open honest report. You shouldn't have a drama in life. Its your life get on with it and live it. Your comments show you have a good mindset. Your parents obviously did a great job raising you. Enjoy Australia and make friends and a social circle, experience do see learn and grow.
Wow. INTENTIONAL LIVING. Making theat a priority is LIFE-CHANGING. Its such a blessing to learn that early on in lif, because this earthly life is soo fleeting! Weldone girl on having the courage to change courses and being strict about the quest for inner joy. So much love from sunny South Africa!
This is such an exciting time in your life, moving abroad was the best decision I ever made. I'm wishing you lots of joy and peace in this new chapter sis 🌿
Love this! I moved from New Jersey to Atlanta alone and I was able to really discover my purpose and who I was as a woman. I was challenged in so many ways and it pushed me to be a better version of me
That's so beautiful!! Honestly, moving anywhere alone or stepping into the unknown requires a lot of courage and I'm glad that you were able to discover your purpose after taking that big leap! Wishing you lots of endless joy on your journey sis.
The African in this video has QUICKLY figured out that once you step anywhere outside of America, you get exponentially better treatment in the world as an Black American/African-American than you do as an African, ESPECIALLY a Nigerian. So here she is, Black Americans, stealing your identity and USING it for her own personal benefit in Australia. She is only referring to herself in Australia as "African-American" in order to reap the advantage that come with being a Black American vs being an African, in pretty much EVERY country outside of the United states. And you all are just skinning and grinning along with her letting her play you all for fools! Trust and believe that she NEVER once referred to herself as an African-American when she lived in America. She made SURE that people knew she was Nigerian, at most she MIGHT have referred to herself as Nigerian-American. So now the Nigerian has transformed herself into an "Akata" (Remember? Their favorite black American slur). SMH. Shame on you all.
Really love how you went into fulfillment and doing things that made you happy . Also that you got to travel and see new things . Step out the box and be free . 🌸
I find it interesting listening to ur story, about searching for something other than US work culture to build ur life around. I'm still confused by my family and friends because the only thing they want to talk about is work/career, and every conversation with strangers starts with "what work do u do" and it's so dry.
That was Deep. Thank you for making this. Living abroad was one of the best decisions I ever made. It opened my mind to a new way of viewing life. A much broader perspective in general. which I didn't realize how much I needed until I experienced it.
Really nice posting. Thanks for sharing. I feel inspired and am very happy for you and your achievements. Nice to see you love our beautiful gem of a country :-) Take care xx
Finally a person of color who is American making videos in Australia. As a Mexicna/American I'm so tired of seeing only White/Americans representing the U.S and having all the pie. As a transgender and Latina me and my boyfriend we want to move to Australia. I'm so tired of work work work and making slave wages and bearly making ends meet!
Hi Valerie, I have just discovered your channel! I’m Aussie born (Melbourne) of a Nigerian dad and Bajan mum. I live in Sydney. Totally relate to the expectations of a Nigerian parent!😂😂
Hey, thats crazy. Im from Barbados. If you see this hows it like there, im suppose to be moving soon but kinda meh about the racism i may experience. Which state do you recommend for a black girl, yk that doesn thave a lot of racism?
Idunno if I found this video or it found me (I'm researching African-American experiences in Australia in prep of a trip), but well-done, and thank you for sharing your experience! More or this resonates than doesn't, so it's great that you pushed yourself forward to make the video as there are others looking for validation as you were; it helps to know others out there struggle just the same, and better to connect where/when you can. Question: What about the Brown fellas that find their way to Mel"bin"?? Who do we get up with?? :)
I’m so glad to see your channel on here because I’m mixed black and white and Vietnamese I was asking a RUclipsr about missionary work and she was completely rude saying that Australia didn’t need white Christian to remind them it through me a loop because she’s whiter then me lol 😂 I love your positive vibes
Hi i wish you all best congratulations on making the move to Australia you have a great outlook on life Australia needs more young people like you i believe you can be very successful in life
I love your story, so relatable. And we are lucky to have you down under! Have you managed to get out to the west coast? It’s a total different kettle of fish and well worth a trip or two!
After 8 years you're an Aussie by default. Even arriving here with intentions of settling is enough for acceptance. About half of us have ancestors who were "transported" here against their will for dubious reasons. $0.02.
@Ulbre Dr Folie yes Austria is cold in winter, it's also in Europe, if that's a "typo error" and you meant Australia 🇦🇺 then yes, there are some areas which are cold and have snow in winter and others which are warm in winter, when I say warm, I mean like summer in some countries, generally it's sunny with crisp air and around 7°celcius at night and around 18-23°celcius during the day in winter in Perth Western Australia.
I live this video.... it's challenging me positively and I also believe traveling gives opportunities....All my life I have always wished to live in Australia......I am happy for you.
Hello, am older woman. The food there is it organic. My experience is had apple on refrigerator for two months and did not rot. Also diagnosed with stomach disorder and can’t eat most foods in America.
Australia was opened up by the Afghans Chinese came here very early in Australia We were brought up by the League of Nations and our families went to all over the world as missionaries So everyone is the same to me
I too went to Loyola Marymount University for Grad school. Great school. I have a friend who likes in Melbourne, Australia. I went to Australia five years ago and I have to say I did not spend much time there. I plan on going back once the pandemic ends.
Well done for going for it and Australia is a top place and may I ask which team so I can watch the games I'm in Bundaberg Queensland thanks for your insight
Great positive video and so glad you’ve done well. We are of course quite welcoming to people who try and fit in and be part of Australia. Hope you can become an official Aussie one day, and I believe you can retain your American citizenship. Anyhow, All the best to you. 🤩
My boyfriend has been trying to convince me to move to Perth! I’m afraid of all the huge bugs and spiders, snakes, etc! I hear so many horrors of pest Australia. I want to move to the UK, as I’m a British citizen as well. We always go back and forth. I compromised and said look. Let’s save up and spend 2-3 weeks in both countries and go from there! ...I’m still nervous though
You’ll be fine in Perth it’s a beautiful clean city and far away from other states during this Coronavirus period as our daily life is normal in comparison. Hope you love it if u decide to move here. Safe travel but bear in mind our boarder is currently closed except for returning residents only.
@@helenhawkins7515 thank you! It's nice hearing that from someone else! My bf says it's a clean city but his clean and my clean are on a different spectrum lol. We definitely won't be moving abroad until the pandemic calms down in the US and countries open up to us again!
Thank you sis, for this video. I’m from Los Angeles also. I have travelled a lot with the Navy. I have been thinking of countries to move to. I have not been to Australia, but it’s on my list of places to look into.
Glad you enjoyed my video sis. Yes, it's definitely a beautiful part of the world. If you do get a chance to come this way, try to connect with the Aboriginal culture, they carry lots of beauty and wisdom 🌻

Hi! I’m planning to venture out to the country from the States towards the end of the year. I’ve been in TX most of my life so I’m used to the heat (although it might be a different type of heat). Being able to work for anywhere I’m flexible as far as dates & cities go. Do y’all have any recommendations? Genuinely asking. Your feedback will be greatly appreciated. I’ve between Gold Coast, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney. Also, if y’all know the current state of the country I’d love to hear about it. I’m doing so much research before I relocate.

My brother and his family moved to Perth. Western Australia has the most aqua coloured beaches I've seen in Australia.
West is best. Beautiful beaches and sunsets. Clean, friendly and safe.❤️🇦🇺
Brit JJ I moved from Adelaide back to the states June 2018. It was horrible and I was so sad omg. I’m considering Melbourne next go round.

Darrisha Robinson I find Melbournians to be friendly and open. Adelaide locals have an inflated sense of self, are insular and a bit backwards. I hope Melbourne works out for ya.
Bruh why would you move to Miami from Australia?! Miami is like a dirtier, 100x more expensive gold coast. Come home girl!
Thank you!
My husband is AA and living in Australia. ❤️ the land of opportunities
American Airlines?
Subscribing. Im currently in a transition period in my life where I'm trying to find my passion and make plans to move away from the USA. This is inspiring. Thank you!
Same here. I am thinking to move to Australia too.
This was insanely inspirational. As an upcoming senior this year, this was exactly what I needed to hear. Thank you 💛
So glad my story resonated with you sis! I'm wishing you an amazing senior year 🌞
I'm so happy for your decision to move to Australia lovely young lady!My parents came from U.K in 1950s and it was the best decision they ever made .With 5
children in tow .Living in Tasmania is so much like U.K you should visit after Covid! Best of luck for the future!
I am just so moved at your need to know your limitations and still exceed them. You have everything you need in OZ, and that’s, just give me a “fair go”, that’s the deal breaker. Your honesty, and measured approach is inspiring. You will elevate all of us great to have you here.
You're very brave. I went to Australia for new years 2019. I felt safe and the atmosphere was so chill. Especially compared to east coast U.S
Thank you sis and God bless you too 🌿
@@BrownBelleAbroad you welcome sis and God blessed you 🙏

Do it. Perth is awesome and cheaper than the Eastern States.
I am happy you did this video I am thinking to move abroad been on my mind a lot lately.
You never know until you give it a go ;-)
My wife is Canadian, she took a chance 15 years ago when I met her when I was traveling through North America, 5 weeks after I came home she came to join me and now has a beautiful life here in Australia. I'm proud that my children are half Canadian, I went looking for something I felt in my heart was out there and found it. We humans need diversity, it is what makes us all so special. Our differences make us unique, our characteristics show that we are all of one race... The human race.
The best way to feel that energy, is to try some of that difference for yourself (even if it is just a slight difference from what you are used too i.e. speaking the same language etc)... it's an awakening of the soul. ;-)
Listen to your heart (not your head), you'll choose what is right for you.
G'day from Australia 🇦🇺
I was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, but my parents are from Morocco, North Africa.
Moving to Brisbane early next year!! Very insightful!!
BANGTEEZ_IN_YOUR_AREA 💜 Good luck! I'm thinking of moving to Sydney around 2022 or 2023 after college is over! Stay safe out here!:)
Mariah Burton thank you! Wishing you the best too 🙌🏾
Brisbane or South East Queensland is the best place to live in Australia. Good luck with your life.
welcome to my part of the country, lovely city :)
My hometown. You’ll love it here ☺️
Your even started to pick up an Australian accent, Good luck and the best wishes for the future. 🇦🇺🏄♂️😎
I know! She says Australia correctly. ha ha
You're gorgeous and I'm so glad you like it here 😘
Wow I loved this. Hahaha I can hear a little Australian accent when you say "Australia"
Enjoy Australia and make friends and a social circle, experience do see learn and grow.
one day i will still go to australia, but until that day comes, i want you to keep posting cool videos like this one
Thank you for sharing your story! I'm thinking of moving to Aus and its nice to se a fellow black girl there and loving it!
This is such an exciting time in your life, moving abroad was the best decision I ever made. I'm wishing you lots of joy and peace in this new chapter sis 🌿
Brown Belle Abroad thank you so much! ❤️🧡💛
You are such an inspiration to me; your laugh is contagious! Thank you for making this video!
Wow - that was powerful - enjoyed that insight.
Wishing you happiness and joy each day 🙏🏼
I’ve lived in Western Australia for 40 years. It’s an awesome place to live. 😁🐨
Thank you for blessing me with your story, so brave and encouraging! Sending you much love, beautiful. 🌻
Really love how you went into fulfillment and doing things that made you happy . Also that you got to travel and see new things . Step out the box and be free . 🌸
I loved this video! I'm thinking of moving to Australia as well so hearing your story is super inspiring! Thank you for the motivation
thank you for your sharing your perspective!! i’m moving to melbourne australia between 2024 and 2025 and i’m very excited!
Great story. Been through this myself. Listening to you talk brought back a lot of memories. Made me miss Australia, where I from, also.
Which country do you live in ?
We prefer people not seperate themselves from being Aussie if they choose to be an Aussie... We are one people ❤.
Really nice posting. Thanks for sharing. I feel inspired and am very happy for you and your achievements. Nice to see you love our beautiful gem of a country :-) Take care xx
After 2020 I have made up my mind to save all my coins and move to the Down Under. America is on some shit.
❤ needed this
Finally a person of color who is American making videos in Australia.
:)
Terrific and inspiring story! Thanks for sharing and continued happiness. 👍🏽
New subbie here. I can totally relate to you girl when I moved here in Sydney. Keep on inspiring people.
Welcome sis! Glad that my sentiments resonate with you 🌞
I’m so glad to see your channel on here because I’m mixed black and white and Vietnamese I was asking a RUclipsr about missionary work and she was completely rude saying that Australia didn’t need white Christian to remind them it through me a loop because she’s whiter then me lol 😂 I love your positive vibes
If you're black or whatever colour and thinking of moving to Australia, please come, we welcome you ❤️
Hi i wish you all best congratulations on making the move to Australia you have a great outlook on life Australia needs more young people like you i believe you can be very successful in life
Thank you so much, I appreciate the kind comment 🌿
The bit when you talked about how you felt going into your first 9-5 is exactly how I’ve always felt! Planning to move overseas once borders open up.
Wishing you lots of joy and happiness in your new chapter 🌻
Thanks for your insight
Oh my god I'm also African American living in Australia I also moved here in 2012.
This is so inspiring. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Alia! I'm glad you enjoyed my video 🌿
What a naturally beautiful woman.
I watched this video until the end. Did anyone else do that? Austria is really cold in the winter
Thanks for sharing your story. I move to Australia last year, and am loving it here. Hope one day we will meet.
Yes, that would be wonderful! Come join a wellness space I created called Brown Girl Bloom : facebook.com/groups/browngirlbloom 🌿
I live this video.... it's challenging me positively and I also believe traveling gives opportunities....All my life I have always wished to live in Australia......I am happy for you.
I love your story and energy. You are inspiring.
You are sooooo beautiful ❤️

...wow all I can say is ‘Cali’s loss...the land of Oz...gained 😂, on ya mate 👍🏾
Hello, am older woman. The food there is it organic. My experience is had apple on refrigerator for two months and did not rot. Also diagnosed with stomach disorder and can’t eat most foods in America.
The food here is awesome. Fresh, tasty and less processed than American food.
Am looking forward for the man of my dream, who is loving, caring and focus.
I love your work sis. Don't give up. Goodluck
Thank you so much, I appreciate the love 🌿
Good luck and happy for you!

I'm so happy you are enjoying living in Australia
A'Kiva Wright lol your bf is right. Safe travels 🙏🏽
Lived all over Australia and not seen a snake in the wild. Very few spiders too. They are sensationalised.
😭I literally am ready to move here yesterday 🥹😭I need to plan & manifest a position there
Thank you sis, for this video.
Thank you for sharing your personal experience 🙏🏿
You are beautiful, you sure have made a good move, it’s a shame you didn’t say more about your stay here. If you do decide to stay permanently have a great life hear.🇦🇺🇦🇺
You're beautiful, inside and out! ❤️
Thank you for this video😊
You're so beautiful😍😍😍
Your gorgeoussss 😍💖
I really feel like first generation africans are not in the same pool as black americans who have been in the usa for generations. That goes for culture, mixed ethnicity, and general outlook.
Thank YOU!!!
