A jar of Vegemite usually lasts several months because you only put a slight thin spread on toast. The great thing about Canberra is there is so much to do like galleries, libraries, museums and they are mostly free. One place to definitely visit is the Australian War Memorial. It is a fantastic museum, along with the reverance they pay to service men and women, a place that honours their service and sacrifice.

As an Australian I eat Vegemite toast, it’s definitely an acquired taste. But I would never eat it like that. That is just way too much Vegemite. You need to spread a nice layer of butter on the toast and a very very thin layer of Vegemite.

I don't think they ever expected to have the chance to go to England to begin with, so they took all the pictures and took us to as many historical landmarks as they could. It definitely was a life forming experience for all of us regardless, and I'm sure Australia will be the same for you! 😍

also, when you were talking about seeing kangaroos crossing the street, I wonder if it'd feel to Australians like seeing a deer? haha! Might be interesting too to find out if BirdNET or eBird can help you identify the birds that are around you

Welcome to Australia 😊 Yes, most ppl are friendly and will help you adjust to life here. All you have to do is ask. As for Vegemite, the key rule is: lots of butter/margarine and a SMALL amount of Vegemite 😅 Canberra is really cold in winter, as you're probably finding out now! Def need thick coats, scarves and gloves. Summers are hot and dry. I lived there in the 90s. It can feel a bit restrictive at times. Hope you can see more of Australia while you're here. Also, just use google or an app for the metric system until you get used to it.
Then you should have simply asked or googled how to eat vegemite lol, heaps of butter and then only a tiny bit of vegemit over the melted butter on the toast.

well at least we’re in this together :) no one has been offended yet, even when I do correct myself, but I’ve been trying to catch myself and say it correctly! funnily enough, a lot of the cities in Virginia where I moved from, which were named after English towns, Norfolk, Suffolk, etc were often ‘mispronounced’ even by locals! 😂 I feel like this is a problem no matter where you are in the world but I’m working on learning the correct pronunciations!
