- Welcome to episode two of my Summer Escape series. While many of us are still grounded due to COVID-19 I thought I'd share what I got up to last summer on the small Orkney island of Auskerry, where I grew up.

Brilliant Docu series. Such a different life from ours in Switzerland but maybe that's why it has so much appeal? We just spent some days on Mainland Orkney last week, taking the ferry from Aberdeen and it was my favorite part of our Scotland trip. How do you feel about the cruise ship tourists flooding the mainland every other day? Of course, we are also tourists but were a bit shocked as it isn't the kind of traveling we prefer. Nonetheless, this video makes me want to return to Orkney and discover the islands a bit more.
Thanks for watching and I’m glad you had a great visit to Orkney. It’s a wonderful place and I can see why so many people want to see it via the cruise ships. I think it’s a mixed blessing. It does bring jobs and money for the community but it is also quite a strain on services and causes issues for some businesses. I can’t say I feel that strongly about it either way.

Ben Atkinson I love the variety in the day and it is tiring but you sleep well as a result and feel like you’ve earned it. It’s very peaceful.
I know it’s a hard life on these Islands but I think l would love it very much 😊
It is a lovely place to be, especially in the summer months.
So relaxing. Farm & sea altogether. I watched it 3 times because it brought back memories of both in my younger days. Thank you Rory for bringing us along.

Flying and the great outdoors "perfect". Very professional wildlife camera work. I was transported to the island and could swear I felt the sea spray!!

What a terrific short film. It’s a place I’d love to go but it’s important to limit the footprint - I imagine cruise ships stopping at other islands in Orkney both help the economy but then exhaust resources. Heli tours locally would be brilliant but the wildlife may not co-exist with it all that well. It seems such a honest lifestyle. Thank you for making this series, I’ve watched this three times myself now!
I’d certainly love to do some limited heli tours in the summer - maybe one for a future year. Thanks for watching.
