I live in the middle of the US and it takes multiple days of driving nearly non stop except to rest to get to the ocean. I've driven it probably 3 times but it's a big effort, flying for 8 hours is a little more manageable but a lot of people don't have the money to drop just to go see the ocean.
ever in SoCal again give a shout and wave! Love to meet you guys for dinner but yeah, me and gazillions of your other fans. btw - you two are a super cute couple!
I'm sure someone else has already suggested it, but plastic allows a lot of molecules to pass through it's sides over time. I would suggest looking for those old glass returnable Coca Cola bottles. They are very thick, tinted, glass, and you can just use an inexpensive hand bottle capper to cap the bottles easily. Easy to remove and put on another if you want to test the water for some reason, years from now. Not perfect, but much better than the plastic.
Is there a chance of the water being contaminated by the plastic bottles after being stored for a long time? would a glass bottle and cork work better? I'm curious about trying that myself
be careful - my wife had a critter which got into a toe, luckily the MD was sharp enough to ask if she had been in seawater and that did the trick. thanks Cody :)
It's so strange to hear you've never been to the ocean, even though I know full well Utah is super landlocked. Growing up in western Oregon, I took every chance to see the ocean since I was 4.
You should do Cody in NYC. And pan for gold on 47th St in the diamond district. Supposedly bits of gold and small gem stones end up in the sidewalk cracks.
Hey cody just a quick question here, do you ever, or are you planning, on collecting even the smallest findings of gold you have panned and melting them all together to create a larger piece? It would be neat to see your progress because you like to pan for things.
Hi, I saw I nice Mitsubishi vehicle behind you. Our plant in Ill. has been sold to a mysterious outfit ...wow, you are rich beyond your wildest dreams :)
I've only ever panned once and I've gotten bigger nuggets than the one you said was the biggest you've seen... Next time try panning in Southern California.
cody talks about the humidity here in california and I agree with him as i look at the rh meter and it is at 75%... but then i see that cody made this video over 3 years ago... i thought it was a new upload
I have seen some of your videos today and I dictated to Subscribe! But! I have one question.. how you know all those staff! ? It seems you know a lot of chemistry did you studied chemistry at University/Collage or did you learn it all by yourself (I mean books and the internet etc.)?
Enterprise I don't think so, it would just expand back to its normal shape (given that no gas escaped through the seal.) If he were to open and close it in California and then keep it closed until Utah, it would expand a lot but I'm still not sure if it would explode
You can extract bromine from the ocean water, and obviously chlorine too. Could be an interesting challenge: extract 3 halogens from one source. I evaporated 32 liters of seawater down to approx 1 liter for the purpose of extracting bromine from it someday.
You basically wash out all the light material and since gold is heavy it'll sink to the bottom. So eventually you'll be left with the only heavy material
interesting! you have never been below 50 feet before, and where I live, there is nothing higher than 50 meters 100 miles around. I spend most of my life at 60 feet :D thanks for the vids!
Hey Cody great videos!! My boyfriend showed me your channel yesterday (he's also a physic lover) and I wanted to know what is your girlfriends name. Weird question I know but I have pink hair too and you two remind me a lot of my own relationship, so I'm interested!
Hey Cody. I know this is an old video but if you are interested I can easily get you a sample of the Mediterranean sea. Let me know if you are interested and where I can send it. Cheers
only 141 comments? you must have been new. I have been watching you for a year or so, and I think I need to meet you and form some sort of professional relationship.
+Cody'sLab I invite you (and +Kanyon) to Israel! you can go to the dead sea where you can be at around -400m (hard to beat that..) and get a nice sample which will be interesting to compare to your salt lake.. also there's some interesting geology, will be glad to show you arround
just so you will know, a little late, ocean water especially sand will begin to stink really bad after some time. also, from what i hear of Kalifornia you might could have been put in prison for stealing or molesting the seaweed.
Davidautofull I from California and you can harvest the seaweed. The damn stuff washes onto the beach all the time. So, yeah, don't know who you heard that from but they didn't seem to know anything about California.
It's a felony to remove anything from a California State Park. You're just running around documenting yourself committing felonies while you were here. lol. : P
Ragnar W. Eliansson do you not realize he lives in the Centre of the state's? It a couple days travel either direction to reach an ocean. Some people are ignorant as hell.
"This is the lowest I've ever been"
Hah, always knew Cody is high all the time lol
Your love for knowledge of anything is just amazing...
Being from an island off the coast of England, i find it very strange to think that many people have never actually touched or seen the sea :)

Living by the Chesapeake Bay in the USA I was thinking the same thing.
@@TheGoodChap I live in Kentucky so I'm near Florida (relatively) and it still takes 2 days to get to Florida..

I love how excited your are about things. Glad to to be a follower!
And now almost 4 years later he finally extracted Iodine from the Seaweed
and now they broke up
Aljon yeah :(
So geeky, it’s amazing!
It must be nice for you to see so many trees after the years of living in desert
Great stuff. Very interesting and intriguing to look forward to iodine from seaweed. Who inspired you?
I grew up in Salt Lake, and decades later moved to SoCal. I've panned for gold in Big Cottonwood Canyon outside Salt Lake and only found pyrite.
Is there a chance of the water being contaminated by the plastic bottles after being stored for a long time? would a glass bottle and cork work better? I'm curious about trying that myself
Aw, I could have went out to see you but now im in Japan. You went right past my house
Did you think about boling down the water and making some bromine out of it? :)
I love how he though the water would be warm just because it's California. Hah no the Pacific is f*ing cold man
Which camera did you use for this video
Always look forward to your videos! Got introduced to you from the reddit post and will stay an active viewer!
Sorry for the late reply, heres the link www.reddit.com/r/videos/comments/3ak91k/making_gunpowder_from_your_own_urine/
haha you were in my backyard =D well not really, HR or two away. and don't even get me started on humidity X. X
Hi Cody, the humidity in California has just been unusually high this summer.
Watching this video from Sacramento :)
I love you, Cody.
this video may have has the greatest outtro in youtube history. "ok"-cody
crazy high humidity in ca? man you must be in the bay area. by the time you got to auburn, you must have noticed how dry things got...
Cody, I have some news: the gold rush was in 1849; you're 166 years to late.
be careful - my wife had a critter which got into a toe, luckily the MD was sharp enough to ask if she had been in seawater and that did the trick. thanks Cody :)
Awe man.... I could've met cody 3 years ago. That would've been so cool...
I wish I'd know. You were right in my back yard. I live in Auburn!
You're awesome dude. Just thought you should know. I know it's an old vid.
It's so strange to hear you've never been to the ocean, even though I know full well Utah is super landlocked. Growing up in western Oregon, I took every chance to see the ocean since I was 4.
I want to pan for gold so bad. Did you ever collect more samples of water? That would be interesting to see side by side
As someone who hasn't lived more than 20km from the sea my whole life, blows my mind to see people get excited for it ha ha.
You should do Cody in NYC. And pan for gold on 47th St in the diamond district. Supposedly bits of gold and small gem stones end up in the sidewalk cracks.
Looked like a lovely day for the beach!
Hey cody just a quick question here, do you ever, or are you planning, on collecting even the smallest findings of gold you have panned and melting them all together to create a larger piece? It would be neat to see your progress because you like to pan for things.
So awesome to see how excited you got about the ocean! :)
Did you mean to say dew ? Anyway I am from south Mississippi and the humidity is crazy
Hi, I saw I nice Mitsubishi vehicle behind you. Our plant in Ill. has been sold to a mysterious outfit ...wow, you are rich beyond your wildest dreams :)
Do you know anything new about Mars One?
Of all the years I've followed Cody, somehow Ive not seen this one. Or, if I had, it's been years and years.
The street in the very beginning looks an awful lot like where I'm from. Is that Petaluma/Cotati/Rohnert Park? :0
I have seen some of your videos today and I dictated to Subscribe! But! I have one question.. how you know all those staff! ? It seems you know a lot of chemistry did you studied chemistry at University/Collage or did you learn it all by yourself (I mean books and the internet etc.)?
***** Good luck with the Geology degree I think you will find it really handy! :p
CODY WAS 10 FKN MILES FROM WHERE I AM RIGHT NOW AND I MISSED IT BY.... a year. BUT STILL IT'S ANNOYING.
Could the sea water bottle explode when you get back to higher elevation?
Enterprise I don't think so, it would just expand back to its normal shape (given that no gas escaped through the seal.) If he were to open and close it in California and then keep it closed until Utah, it would expand a lot but I'm still not sure if it would explode
Cody, is this near bodega bay?
That's the cleanest seawater I've seen in my life.
nice beard man :) 👍🏻
3:16
So trippy looking.
Wow you made it to California two months before I first went there.
You can extract bromine from the ocean water, and obviously chlorine too. Could be an interesting challenge: extract 3 halogens from one source. I evaporated 32 liters of seawater down to approx 1 liter for the purpose of extracting bromine from it someday.
Drinks cyanide but is afraid of the ocean......
and now they broke up
Aljon I’m sad :(
Great video.
I wonder if the water colection worked out, seeing that airports, mainly the US ones seems to be very rigid to what you bring.
we drove.
Yeah, I noticed this after, but what about the other places like Alaska? And probably other places that you travelled by plane.
50 feet above sea level is your lowest? You should visit my country haha. You'd be lucky if sea level itself is your highest point.
They high asf
Cody looks like the scientist from the movie "End day".
What's the process for gold panning? How do you go from dirty water to gold?
You basically wash out all the light material and since gold is heavy it'll sink to the bottom. So eventually you'll be left with the only heavy material
if you want warm waters in california, you need to come down to san diego
Cody do you go to california often?
Do you have a water collection by now, Cody?
interesting! you have never been below 50 feet before, and where I live, there is nothing higher than 50 meters 100 miles around. I spend most of my life at 60 feet :D
thanks for the vids!
yea our water is freezing out here
Hey Cody great videos!! My boyfriend showed me your channel yesterday (he's also a physic lover) and I wanted to know what is your girlfriends name. Weird question I know but I have pink hair too and you two remind me a lot of my own relationship, so I'm interested!
+Coney Islandxx Kanyon
When you got the sample of salt water, at least you didn’t get a jellyfish like grant Thompson did
Hey Cody. I know this is an old video but if you are interested I can easily get you a sample of the Mediterranean sea.
Let me know if you are interested and where I can send it.
Cheers
Daniel Tabone In his more recent videos he usually lists a P.O. Box or at least a work email, I want to see him science the hell out of the sea too
I found it pretty remarkable that cody finds fifty feet of altitude high. considering I have spent 99% of my live below that.
half the country lives over 1000ft sooo... I guess we all have different perspectives, how interesting!
only 141 comments? you must have been new. I have been watching you for a year or so, and I think I need to meet you and form some sort of professional relationship.
I'm in California to visit my girlfriend (now Fiancé)………….So here I am panning gold and put my girlfriend to work. LOL, Cody, don't ever change!
It's a rare person who wants to burn seaweed to extract the iodine.
kanyon is his girlfriend? I thought she was his sister
I'm in SAN DIEGO!!
This is weird, I 've been to that park many times. Of all the places cody could have ended up😲.
Where did u pan
Awesome :)
I can get you samples of 4 out of five of the great lakes.
finally out of Utah
+Cody'sLab I invite you (and +Kanyon) to Israel! you can go to the dead sea where you can be at around -400m (hard to beat that..) and get a nice sample which will be interesting to compare to your salt lake.. also there's some interesting geology, will be glad to show you arround

Where do you live?
He lives in Utah I think
that looks like fools gold lol
The thing is fools gold is light and doesn't sink
I bet ocean does not stink as great salt lake
Cody had never been to the ocean? Dude needs to get out more.
Sugarsail1 he lives in Utah..
wow there are absolutely no dislikes on this vid
Auburn local here, I’m hoping that isn’t a sluice box, there’s an agreement with the State Water Board and CA Parks and Rec that permits only panning.
1:38 Poliwag nest!
Cody'sLab you should have seen if you could find uranium ore.
Nice
***** You should of used the geiger counter on Fukushima water you swam in and took home.
+Razedbywolvs Foil much? XD
Darius P
The foil hat comes with the wikileaks subscription.
Razedbywolvs Believing stuff just because it's reported by underground sources is the bad kind of foil hat.
r u kidding me that is dirty??? come to India you will be shocked u will have more dirt than water
Kanyon
u reminds me of pewds
cody cali
Bendover in Wendover
999th view >:)
yus, our ocean is freezing.
It's a felony to remove anything from a California State Park.
You're just running around documenting yourself committing felonies while you were here. lol. : P
+psygn0sis

lol
Ragnar W. Eliansson do you not realize he lives in the Centre of the state's? It a couple days travel either direction to reach an ocean. Some people are ignorant as hell.
this guy is sooo weird
I wish I would've known about air pressure before traveling to Colorado from Kansas
CODY WAS 10 FKN MILES FROM WHERE I AM RIGHT NOW AND I MISSED IT BY.... a year. BUT STILL IT'S ANNOYING.
