Another fun adventure !! We are stoked to have aquired this new ground !! Look so forward to doing some propsecting on this site next year !! Thanks for another great video Dan ... cant wait for our next adventure :) Hope you all enjoyed
@@harpintn I was wondering the same. Are they a mining operation or an acquisition company who will get estimates for amount of copper per ton and sell the mining rights.
Fun to watch your videos. Gold hunting is on my bucket list. I once found gold in a loose rock when I was camping in California. I do not recall where we were camping. The rock I had came up missing from my college boxes years ago.
Hey Dan and again a beautiful video and so much nice landescape. Thank you so much for share all thies awesome nature and information on geology. Hope you are well and healty greetings from Germany
My grandparents lived there for 40 years! My dad and his siblings were raised there Havent been there since i was 5 years old, But i really do want to go back
You can get heated blankets for the winter. They will heat the space as well as a heater sometimes. I live in a small studio apartment and if I light a candle it will warm the whole room. I hope that helps. Blessings
If you want to find native copper you should go east a bit around lake Superior. Would be easiest to find some in Michigan (Keweenaw specifically) but you could also stay on the Canadian side. Also lots of other gem and minerals around the area. Agate, greenstone, silver, amethyst, epidote, gold, iron, etc. Just about anything can be found here. The copper comes out of the rock here at 98% pure copper.
You can literally find lumps of copper on or in the ground there it is truly hard to imagine. I worked in the UP of michigan for awhile and that area of the penninsula is so rich in lost history.
My goodness Dan, you Canalians {With a smile on my face. Love the Canadians that I have gotten to Know.} sure have some beautiful country up there. You also seem to have a lot of beautiful people too. I'm also envious of some of the natural resources that you have. Especially the gold prospecting opportunities, well, such as your pickerton claim and that crazy river with all that gold. LOL. Your videos put a smile on my face. Take care from Oregon.
Dan Hurd, after things go back to a bit normal through Georgia and Carolinas Areas, I bet there are many places the devastating flood's have uncovered with good deposits of gold, Emeralds and ruby's, which those areas are known for to begin with
I’ve held native copper. Years ago I was living in Yellowknife, NWT. (During the last gold boom in the early 1980s) We rented a boat on Prelude Lake and you could boat out to islands and pick up native copper off the ground. So soft you could bend it in your hands.
Got a similar place here in Oregon called the Cornucopia mine. The only reason why they stopped mining it. Is that they run the risk of breaking a volcanic crater lake and flooding the town of halfway. Still baffles my mind about how much material that they just leave lying around in tailings and Road grapples. When you actually find a motherload you really do find a motherlode. It always reminds me of the dwarf mines from the Lord of the Rings.
Native copper and other associated minerals are some of my favorite things to hunt, I feel fortunate that I live somewhere where there are high concentrations of it in the northern part of my home state.
It's interesting that you call it "Calcopyrite" whereas we call it "Chalcopyrite" here in the UK. I do miss my days as a geologist. I studied Mining Geology at the Royal School of Mines, and have always loved my sulphides!
I read somewhere about a dude who had a road on his claim that turned out to be paved with 2 oz/ton ore. Imagine making a fortune without even entering the mine.
I wish I could remember, we went like 15 years ago when I was still a child. There was a walking tour of the historic district where they mentioned the bricks, and there was a really nice fudge shop.
Cool. I have a big chunk of granite layered with calcite crystals and on top of that is a layer of limestone. Taken from the top of the mountains of El Paso Texas. Ranger Peak and the others. A prize.
Hi Dan! when you mentioned Greenwood I thought you'd be exploring the old Phoenix mine just on the East side of Greenwood! Had a fairly large town to support it too. If you were able to get permission, the Rock Candy mine just north of Grand Forks would make a neat video too.. lots of purple and green quartz.
Price of gold and silver has skyrocketed lately. 🤯 Finding gold was always good but currently amazing! (Subject to change of course.) All the best to each of you, take care.💐
Another great video. It did occur to me while watching this one that all RUclipsrs should probably be aware of how your fingerprint can be replicated by a clear close up shot. Probably not something to really worry about too much...but it is a thing.
so awesome Mr. Dan. Hurd im little jealous living down here in Florida not a lot of geologic activity going on here. Definitely fascinated about the field. Would love to go up there and just explore and pick around!!!! Thanks for sharing this awesome stuff!
Dan: We are looking to find placer gold and we have an area where there is lode gold mines. Can surface placer gold also be in load gold area? Thank you and we have learned so much from you!!!
Hey Dan I know you read all your comments and hopefully you don’t read the bad ones!! and I just wanted to say watching all your videos the past couple weeks have inspired me to start. Thank you for the great content 💙
That skarn association with limestone means that the garnet is grossular (calcium aluminum garnet) which may be gemmy in the form hessonite aka cinnamon garnet, brown tones rather than red..
Something I learned recently pyrite is not conductive but Arsenopyrite and chalcopyrite are both conductive. Although Arsenopyrite is isn't the best conductor, I had a Serpentinite sample with what was listed as with pyrite but eventually figured it was chalcopyrite.
There's an old placer mine not too far from me on the Bear River in Placer County that has thousands of tons of paydirt just sitting there that no one ever ran, they literally cut a road over 12 feet deep through the pay pile. I can't help but want to drive out there with a couple dozen empty buckets and a shovel and bring it home and see if I can find anything in it.
Excellent video! It's hard to find good incite on treasure hunting. I would love to see more of how to identify the clues in nature that can led to fun discoveries. :)
I manage an old copper mine we have opened to rockhounds near St Louis, MO called Copper Valley Mine. How much of what you are finding is actual Malachite, versus chrysocola? To my knowledge and according to people who have visited our place, malachite has to have a crystal structure, versus Chrysocola is more of a coating or a veining of material. If you see this, let me know what you think!
I always wish I could just head out and look for stuff laying around. Unfortunately, I'd probably be stepping on someone's claim. Yikes. I'll just be content with watching Dan do his thing!
Dear Mr. Hurd. Every time I watch your videos, I want to pack everything up, move north, and be your rockhoud slave. I'll work for free if you can feed me your scrap rocks, minerals, and gems. Of course I come fully loaded with all my mining/survival equipment including a full lapidary shop...even have a sphere machine from Covington! Ahhh...its nice to dream. I really enjoy your videos. Thank you for your hard work!
As a kid when I learned the colour of an ore is different en I learned the colour of an ore is different from the metal I know, my mind blew up XD Even as an adult, just looking at the different colours and knowing it's something I know as an other colour it's still so weird... :D
Is it even possible to find like a chunk of gold when you're following a vein or is it always thinly spread through quartz in the mountains. ive seen some Berring sea stuff is pretty chunky some times so i wondered if miners have ever hit a real serious gold deposit.
What are the parameters for visiting the pit?? figured that the whole minesite wouldve been like a historical landmark area, sorta off limits to mining But i guess not Id like to visit sometime since i have family in greenwood,
Hey Dan maybe you could explain how one would separate the different minerals? I know you can melt gold at 1800° but how does one separate the silver and copper from say a place that has all 3 minerals. Thanks for your time.
Hey Dan and everyone. Question here... what would cause or what might be mistaken for malachite in driveway gravel? I am forever finding a dark green/turquoise or malachite green on the gravel. Is there trace copper amounts causing it?
Best anallogy I can make with these guys bragging about their holdings in the Boundary country ... They say " look at me, I'm rich, I own six vehicles" They neglect to say they are all in the back yard up on blocks with the motors stripped out of them.😂
Hey Dan, I was wondering if you've ever been to Cobalt Ontario? I know it's a little out of your back yard, but it has a huge mining history that could make for an interesting video :)
Dan: I built your gold sucker and my grandson used it last week on Olney Creek at Sultan Washington. No gold but the sucker worked good. Dan has a video on how to make them.
Another fun adventure !! We are stoked to have aquired this new ground !! Look so forward to doing some propsecting on this site next year !! Thanks for another great video Dan ... cant wait for our next adventure :) Hope you all enjoyed
Will your company develop and run a mine there (assuming you like what you see) or will that be someone else?
@@harpintn I was wondering the same. Are they a mining operation or an acquisition company who will get estimates for amount of copper per ton and sell the mining rights.
hi dan love our channel and all the education you share. ile keep watching for years and years to come.
I really like when you go to other sites and think those people who own it are so nice to let you go on their sites. Love watching you always.
19:33 😂 Hilarious! And that garnet find - JEALOUS!! What an awesome group of smart guys doing what they love! ROCK ON!! 😁👍🏻🪨⛏️
Fun to watch your videos. Gold hunting is on my bucket list. I once found gold in a loose rock when I was camping in California. I do not recall where we were camping. The rock I had came up missing from my college boxes years ago.

Thank you for sharing Dan. Love to hear about the professional mining side of things.
You can get heated blankets for the winter. They will heat the space as well as a heater sometimes. I live in a small studio apartment and if I light a candle it will warm the whole room. I hope that helps. Blessings
My husband and I just love you! Thank you!
What an incredible sight! Congrats to the guys gaining ownership of part of it. Working an area like that would be so great
Always look forward to the weeks’ installment and GLD!!!

Some of those specimens are AMAZING!! Looks like you had lots of fun!! 🥰

Hollywood ain't paved with gold, but an old mine could be! 😂😂
Reno, NV used to be paved with really nice blueish grey bricks that turned out to be silver ore
@@zeta970 Wow. Crushed galena, I presume?

Excellent video. The close ups and explinations and just the overall beauty really make these videos outstanding.
Thank you for another wonderful video Dan!
22:08 i love the toronto sock exchange
Since my better half said you look like the golden nugget cerial man, i cant help but chuckle every time i watch your videos
Wish I had cool rocks like that to put in my cactus garden
Awesome adventure gentlemen thank you for sharing this with us six stars

Our commercial gold mines in Colorado are mostly called Molybdenum mines.
Royal alberta museum has an amazing mineral collection which includes a native copper sheet that was about 1x3m

I just realized you could be Cornelius in Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. I love the movie and the character.
All I ever find is Leaverite, as in Leaverite where you found it.
Thanks

Another awesome video Dan! Appreciate your knowledge!!
Thanks for the reply Dan, and the link, but the same thing happens, just says error, no information found
Another great video Dan!
Love the variety in your video's. Probably doesn't do as good as a panning video but fun nonetheless.
GOOD JOB
Salutations From Singapore. Love your videos. What camera / mobile were you using? Awesome

18:04 what is a 'Glory hole' I the context of mining?
I believe it’s the bottom of an old waterfall where gold gets trapped in the pit that the waterfall digs.
5 gallon buckets are for the young, you need a stack of 2 to 2 1/2 gallon buckets.
Well, happy Dan! Is that what it looks like?
It's so weird to see a place full of money and not monetized. Even if no one told me it's not the EU, just this much info would make it obvious XD

Does gold always hang out with copper?

what is the difference between epidote and peridote
so awesome
