I'm a certified Customer Service Specialist and I can say that dealing with the public is an absolute nightmare. It's like being confronted by strange, schizophrenic monkeys every day that you're expected to remain cordial to even as they start defecating and screeching. As difficult, draining, and uncomfortable as lots of face to face interactions have been however, I can say working over the phone is far worse. Something about speaking over the phone just makes people think they can say whatever they want and more often then not, they do. One particular instance had someone threatening to put lit cigarettes out in my eye if I couldn't lower the price of something.
