NY Blackfish Opening Day Insanity - Boat Limit in 1/2 Hour!

- October 11, 2024 represented opening day in the Long Island Sound region of New York for tautog, aka blackfish. As described in this video, while I can legally fish for blackfish in the LI Sound, since my boat is kept in the New York Bight (and that season doesn't commence until 10/15), we can't bring back to my dock any fish. Consequently, instead of being chartered, I decided to fish with my good friends John Keriazes, aka Doc, John Sweeney and Todd Mann.
We experienced a ferocious bite right from the start, achieving our 4 man limit in 1/2 hour.

We run into this zone issue in the gulf sometimes. What we do is reset out tracks (not points). So the only track on the MFD is for the current trip. So if we are stopped, we can show FWC the track and where we fished. The track plotting is different at speed vs fishing, and that always works as evidence for us.
Another good video Johnny! If them fish get a little picky, start leaving the Shell on the cut half It keeps the mustard in the crab longer as a better scent at tractor.

I fished the weatern sound, and the bite was crazy. It was one of the best openers in a while. Only 4 porgies and just about a bite on every drop.
We fished 18' to 23', but watching this makes mebthinkbwe should have hit the shallower bottoms.

@@jiggingjerks oh man I’m telling you the neck mount is MONEY! been using it a couple seasons now. I wear it in deer drive through the woods… on all my fishing trips and knock on wood no failures yet in many trips! Check it out . Don’t forget where you heard it first. So much more comfortable than a head strap.

Was fishing Friday off trueman beach in my kayak…wind kicked up made for short day ..guys fishing from shore did well …how long of a leader do you use …what pound test ?

Hahaha, it was early pm on our way in. Only showed the first 1/2 hour of this trip. Part 2 coming on Monday. We had 20 more keepers on this trip!

I will be going for Tog for the first time next week and I'm trying to understand what part of the NY regulations do I fit in. I fish along coney island, bay ridge and canarsie in Brooklyn. Is that part of the LI sound or NY night region? Great video!

Great question. For this spot, don't need the fish finder at all. We left after an hour and tried new spots never fished before and we definitely used the FF there. That video comes out on Monday.
