Vibena - Hardcore Eruption: Been playing this non-stop. I cannot tell you how addictive this piano riff is accompanied by 4 beat stomper and the heavy amen. 💥🤯💥
    Excellent mixing, Tim!

@@clemfandango8398 yep that’s Vibes For ‘95 (Vibena Remix) which is the flip of the Positive Energy DJ Brisk Remix. It’s not on RUclips (though the ‘Just 4 U’ mix is which is pretty different) but it’s pretty cheap on Discogs 😁 www.discogs.com/master/224968-Vibena-Positive-Energy-Vibes-For-95-Remixes
The track on RUclips that’s labelled as the Vibes For ‘95 Vibena Remix is actually the Just 4 U version. This is the mislabelled video ruclips.net/video/OzymQbqXfLE/видео.htmlsi=KBKgdFtMcfouLR4b

Love this mix, spot on vibes all the way through! You should put it up on soundcloud as a hyped-it link, that will gain you a lot more followers. Worth paying for the premium if you put mixes/tunes out every month.

Sweet - is any of your new material coming out on vinyl Tim? Enjoyed the videos!
Do you have any tails about producing the Vibena releases on Universal? They were fast, frantic and pretty raw sounding (in a good way!)

      Hey thanks for watching!
No hardcore vinyl on the way I’m afraid, but here’s some info you might find interesting about the Positive Energy releases….
The original ‘dubplate’ versions you might have heard were all done on an Amiga with OctaMED and a Korg M1 through the cheapest Tandy mixer available, so there was no processing on there of any kind.
I had literally no idea about any music theory apart from “chords have three notes”, so I did everything by trial and error.
The tracks were originally done at 180 BPM 😂 So, I had to re-do them at 168 BPM which was still pretty fast 😁
The stab on Positive Energy Part 1 had an edit that used a tracker function that I put in at random, and to this day I have no idea what I actually did, hence it has a different edit in the released studio version.
The samples were all taken from CDs, especially bargain bin CDs as I only had a very small music collection and no access to a record player that didn’t sound awful.
The DJ Solo and DJ Seduction amens I used had sub bass on them because I didn’t have filter or EQ (or knew they existed), and I didn’t even realise they were the same break or even know what an amen was 😆
I didn’t know how to program the M1 so my friend Reuben (who now does work for Native Instruments amongst others) had to talk me through making a sine sub over the phone.
I made the string patch on Positive Energy Part 2 by messing around with parameters at random, I believe it’s just a filter opening over the basic string preset.
The lead in Positive Energy Part 1 is a layered choir and piano. This wasn’t anything premeditated on my part, if you turn on the second oscillator it uses the piano sound by default, so if you did that on the M1 choir present you get that lead sound straight away.
So as you can probably tell, these releases were total fluke and I had no business making music 😂 I just got lucky with that I had a few sounds that worked together! This is why you don’t hear much Vibena material from back in the day, I had absolutely no clue what I was doing 😆
I would struggle to make anything that sounds like them now because I these days I approach music very differently, i.e. not just chucking stuff in at random and trying to fix it afterwards 🫣

@@TimCant What great info! I think that's what makes a lot of the early hardcore special - a youthful spirit of experimentation which led to absolutely spectacular sounds and ideas, but also the possibility of failure. Sometimes both within the same record! I still prefer a lot of tracks by hardcore and jungle artists that were clearly produced before they'd mastered their tools.
Did Slipmatt offer to co-produce the tracks in his studio with you at the time, as he did with In Complete Darkness? I found it interesting that some labels, like Kniteforce, had a very Luna-C sound and I'm surprised Slipmatt didn't try to enforce that on his own label.

@@klartbeat yes the released versions were recreated in a studio which is why they don’t have the 8-bit lofi crunch of the ‘dubplate’ versions. Though for the ‘Just 4 U’ mix of Vibes 4 95 we had the Amiga in the studio and ran the samples off that, which is why it’s crunchier than the other releases
