Nice find Bobby. I like the green and the body style. It is will be a fun journey getting the car exactly the way you want it. The future videos will also be fun to watch.!👍 Olds fan from Ohio.
Hi Bobby I've watched the video that you did on Steves blue 442 W30 good video, I am an Oldsmobile fan from 1957 when I bought my first Olds it was 1954 with 324 cu.in. and 3speed manual transit was a real great car. My next was a new 1969 442 /4sd. another great one. In 73 the family grew and so the 442 had to be traded for a new family van but I missed the 442 so much I had to shop for another in 1976 and found a 1970 442 convertible with 4spd. in original condition through the years I completely sanded every speck of paint off and had a shop paint it the cranberry red (original paint); also had disc breaks installed. The odometer reads 79,350 miles. I love this car and will not ever sell it, I've replaced it with an Aurora as my daily driver. Shame on GM for cutting The Olds and Pontiac companies!!!!!!!Keep up the good videos.
Nice car! The thinner side stripes are correct for a non-W30 car. Too often cars get restored with the incorrect wider W30 stripes. I actually prefer the thinner stripes like what you have.
I have the exact same model 1970 442 I bought back in 1990 I think putting back together now its been sitting since 05 in my garage. Some of your qeuestions during video > The stripes are not original, the grill is, headlight covers and door edge are not original, wing most likely not factory but still cool, I agree going w30 look and thats a great find man.
Been subscribed for a few months now. I have a 73 oldsmobile cutlass s. I've had it for 20 years now. I had a 69 that I drove in high school. I've always been a oldsmobile fan. Looking forward to following you on your journey with the new car. Keep the videos coming.
Looks like fun. I have a "70 Cutlass Supreme hard top coupe in the Sherwood green. Bought it in Dec. 1984. 3rd owner and have contacted the first owner. Man, can't wait to see the progress of this project.
Thank you! I am really looking forward to posting more about it and getting it back up and running. One day I'll tell the full story on the car, very similar to my other car review videos.
Looks like a nice car Bobby. Best of luck with it. To answer some of your questions; the thin side stripe was standard on the 442 in 1970. I want to say 1970 had a double stripe and 71 had a triple stripe but I could be wrong on that. Nowadays everyone paints the W30 stripe on the side so there are very few non-W30 442’s with the standard stripe. It’s nice to see it for a change. I don’t believe the pinstripes on your sport mirrors were stock. I don’t believe they were even an option. The chrome door edge guards were an option but I couldn’t say if yours are original or not. The originals should be stainless steel. I don’t believe your rims should be painted green. I think that started in 1971 and was called the Superstock III rim. I believe yours should be argent. Your grills should be plastic like you said they are. Your spoiler looks like it’s in the right location but if you open the trunk you should see three circular depressions in the inner trunk skin. Those usually line up with the spoiler mounting holes. I’m sure not every car does since they were installed by humans back in the day and they made mistakes. There’s a way to tell if your spoiler is original. I believe an original will have a center stud that goes all the way through the spoiler and through the trunk lid. I think the aftermarket ones have a different set up. Whether it’s bolts or something else I forget. If you posted the car on Classic Olds I’m sure you got 100 responses to your questions by now. There are plenty of sharp guys on there. Hope that helps. Did you get the E heads and original intake with the car? E heads are easy to find but the original intake may be tough because it’s different on a stick shift car.
Been subbed for a little while. I’m currently working on my second car that I got at 19. I’m fixing to turn 54. It was my sisters first. 70 olds cutlass supreme. It’s a bucket console car. Rocket 350/350. # match a/c p/s. Car has been parked for 20+ years. Motor rolls over and fixing to change out all hose including vacuum. Tank getting ready to go back in. Carb rebuilt. Just basically go through everything. I have that chrome on my door edge factory item.
It's so cool to hear from other guys about what their working on! Good luck with your project. I am really looking forward to getting this car on the road and roasting some tires!
I have a 70 SX I like BF Goodrich new. I had my car sit for couple years and the tires exploded on the front . The treads were 60% there and the damage was the belts split and blew 1/4 of the tire out here. prntscr.com/16comlp I am liking these cooper cobras , the tire feels heftier and looks good on the car prntscr.com/16covvc I would have never driven on the old tires because the car sat. Both tires blew withing 5 days of eachother also while the car sat. The brown color on the tire was a hint they were going bad . Remember a olds has big power and you need fresh tires. I ran slicks on the back of mine for a while and the grip was so solid when I drove the car normal the front end raised up like a boat. So as you drive the normal tires are slowly slipping as you drive by the weight of the front of the car . Here is my advice Bobby. Dont spend alot of money to make the cars perfect. Drive them and enjoy them. Nothing worse than having a perfect olds that sits like a shrine .
I agree! I can completely appreciate the guys that want that "better than showroom" new quality, but I really enjoy taking my Olds out for a drive and I like not being so worried about who parks too close or getting dings in the paint from rocks or whatever. I'll eventually end up with Cooper Cobras for the street and maybe a nice set of slicks and skinnies for the track.
@OldsmoBobby I want one, I'm 18 and I have no money right now. How old were you when you could afford this? Also what job did you have to work to afford it, like how much did you get paid an hour?
This is kind of an in depth conversation, but I would love to have it with you so you can get some tips and tricks as you enter the hobby. Please feel free to reach out to me using the contact info in the description and I'd be happy to talk more with you!
neat car
