  • Episode 579. The weather turned sour here, and now it is back to snow and shoveling. I'm hoping this young, lowland single malt from InchDairnie will help turn my spirits to thankfulness! Have you had this? #finglassie #islay #whiskyneighbour

I am glad your son is okay. My daughter had a car accident a few months ago(not her fault) just cosmetic damage but it took almost 6 weeks to get parts. The dealership stepped up after my 4 weeks of insurance provided rental car coverage ran out. My advice on dealing with car repairs is that you call them weekly for updates. It let's them know you are interested but not hounding them daily. I took your advice and finally tried some peated whisky(Lot 40 peated quarter cask). It reminded me of my University days doing shots of Drambuie. The aftertaste stays with you. You're probably wondering why I used to do of all things Drambuie shots. Well I was young and inexperienced. Your son is also young and inexperienced. Someone is looking out for him. It could have been much worse. Don't be too harsh on him just let it 'Rest and be Thankful'

Sorry to hear your daughter went through a tough experience. Great advice on calling weekly, and also being thankful. That peated Rye is interesting. Not my favorite peat, but certainly stays with you . Cheers!

Hello Jon! Happy Spring Break! I am very sorry to hear about your son’s car accident. The road conditions have not been good due to some snow we had past few days. I will drop by this weekend to drop off some whisky. Thank you!

Thank you James! He is alright, just car damage, mechanic, and insurance conversation now. Stay warm!

"Little grumpy" 😂. That's how I felt, flying in from work after it was plus 14 in Edmonton and has snowed every day I've been home 🤦‍♂️. I'm glad your son is ok, Edmonton has to be a leader in snow related accidents.

Glad your son’s ok Jon. Appreciate you calling it like it is. The QC is one of my favourite classic Islays and checks most of my boxes. Based on your evaluation of the Rest and Be Thankful, I am wagering the Wee Beastie would have taken the crown too. As always, great video. All the best sir. Cheers.

Thanks for dropping in. I think this Finglassie needs a little more time in fresher casks maybe. Cheers!

Glad your son is ok Jon. The cost of fixing and maintaining a vehicle is definitely a bit of a burden, especially when it comes out of nowhere and as a surprise.
I've tried this Finglassie and also found it enjoyable, well priced enough but just not engaging enough for me to want a whole bottle. Like you, I've got quite a bit of Scotch on the shelf so I saved that money. Of I saw it on sale I'd consider picking it up to refresh my memory though.
Rest & be Thankful is a wonderful name and knowing the story of the mountain pass it's named after really made me appreciate driving over it to get to Campbletown and the Islay ferry at Kennacraig. Thanks for another great video Jon 🥃

I forgot the story! If I buy another of their releases I'll need to share it. So cool you have been there! Cheers!

Completely agree with your sentiments Jon. The Laphroaig quarter cask is hard to beat, especially at that sale price. I was a little disappointed with the Finglassie but am always glad I tried something new or different. I think we paid around $90 ish CAD. I can rest and be thankful that I didn’t buy a full bottle but still had some and could share the experience. :)

I agree. For some reason I thought it was in the $60-70 range. At $90, very thankful to share this one. Cheers, and I hope you have a good spring break!

    Quarter Cask on sale at 65$ ! It’s 102$ in Québec.. you’re lucky! ;)
We also had some snow here in Québec, drive was difficult especially because of how windy it was. Glad your son is ok. Cheers!

Thanks for the good wishes, yes, he is well. Sorry for the price comment, but I do have a few people in AB watching and $65 is a must buy! I found it at another place, SuperStore Liquor on sale as well. Not sure what is going on, but that is hard to find here too. Stay warm!

Another new release from the Lowlands? Haven't seen Finglassie here yet, and this one doesn't sound up my alley. Laphroaig QC is always a classic. I do tend to use it for adding smoky touches to some of my own blends.
I'm still delving into local craft. Found a whisky today from Dunrobin Distillery, which is near Ottawa. Sherry cask finished, corn, rye, barley mix, 46%, no colour and no c-filtering...(called them and asked). Looking forward to trying it, perhaps this weekend.
I see you have a Moonshine Creek 'Downriver' on the shelf behind you. I don't recall you doing a review on it. Which batch have you got? I have three different versions, courtesy of a friend from NB.
Planning a trip to Cape Breton in May. Hoping to spend a day at Glenora Distillery. It looks like an absolutely stunning location.
The weather's been all over the place, just generally. Wish we'd had more snow. Fire concerns will be cropping up again.
    Enjoy your week off! 🥃🥃

VERY glad your lad's okay. Things are replaceable. People aren't.

The whisky from Dubrobin sounds interesting! Yes, I have a Downriver. I'll need to check the batch when I am back home (just out running errands). Thanks for the good wishes, yes we need lots of spring rain here too. Take care!

I did the VIP tour at the Glenora distillery in 2019 and it’s worth every penny! A must stop for any whiskey fan if you’re ever out that way.

@@andyolszewski7967 Good to hear! The whole setup there sounds wonderful. I don't think accommodations on site are open until June though. Checking further into that. Cheers Andy!
