Deserted streets, empty hostels: Kota is facing test for survival, competing against edtech

- Until last year, Kota was full of life. Classrooms were packed, hostels were always full, and local businesses thrived because of the constant flow of students coming in for coaching. The city’s economy seemed to revolve entirely around this coaching culture. But now, things have changed. Coaching centers across Kota are seeing a sharp 30-40% drop in enrollments, many hostels are empty, and mess owners are struggling to stay afloat. Even real estate, once booming, is slowing down, and the city no longer feels as lively as it used to.

Good thing.....this should happen in Delhi also to declutter the civil services coaching business in Delhi....
It has already started due to lack of civic facilities, law enforcement and floods.
Can’t agree more
This has started now. Drishti IAS is shifting it's centre to Noida, so a majority of students will leave Mukherjee nagar and go to Noida. It will happen in Rajendra Nagar also.
This is due to inhuman treatment of students and parents by hostel owners. They simply misbehave and there is no one to go to. It had to happen
The Pratap guy is the height of idiocy. Using words like “caliber”, “deserve”etc. is exactly what’s wrong with Kota and Indian education system. Thinking that only IITs, IIMs, BITS, AIIMS etc. guarantee a good life is totally false. I am the product of one of the finest institutions in the country and have found reasonable success in life. What I have observed is that people who I would work with, many of them would come from not so well known institutions of India. This is the case in India as well as abroad.
Holistic development of the brain is necessary. Being good at Math, Physics, Biology and Chemistry is no guarantee of being a genius especially when it is tested in a limited time frame with a specific set of questions. Most brilliant brains which I have met have had varied backgrounds. India should focus on building character and a holistic mindset and not machines.
You can't get excellence in a coaching factory.
I agree.
reality is often hard haha
true words
Iit is everything
Good, Our Country is healing
Education ❌ Business ✅
every thing is buissness ,which inturn create job , earn money . nothing bad in that .
@@rohitkewat8730 Education should not be a business. It should be funded by privately or by government as part of CSR
Dear students please escape this trap.... No need to go here.....live your life... develope life skills.....learn to make money......say no to Coaching and Kota
Kota now has a scope for pivot. They had been known for training people to enter premier institutions. If they make the moves right, they can build premier institutions at Kota itself, they'd then be known for quality education. They already have a brand value in education. All they need is a rebranding exercise.
Whenever suicide happens in kota, i noticed that your top boss would say this is competition....aab bhukto ...naa bachhe aayenge aur naa hi competition hoga.
Remote work and education is the best way to put an end to housing crisis in cities. Villages have better weather, living conditions and data connectivity now a days
No they don't have electricity
This is very good. Coaching industry is not essential for nations development.
Thank God ppl are getting out of this trap
Amazing 🤩🤩 India is healing. Better get online or local coaching
Online is better than local least of the law coachings
I would say it's a great thing
the chemistry teacher is saying some who didn’t deserve to write these exams also came here .. wah Bhai bhai 😂
Guys behind student back is laughing 😂😂😂
Bcoz he is talking in English 😂😂
IITs have been over-glorified in India because of the lack of good public universities. It also reflects the government's abysmal planning, who see it as a quick fix to impress the public. Ideally, the focus should be only on building world-class universities that cater to a much broader base of students instead of creating 3-4 elite islands of excellence that make entrance exams unnecessarily tough.
I appreciate parents are geeting more aware 🙏 i hope one day kota will be free from illogical No. 1 race.
Ah, Kota! Three years of intense study, sweat, and the occasional existential crisis.
Back when they were merging AIEEE and IIT into the duo of Mains and Advanced-what a time to be alive!
Sir Mr. Maheshwari, the founder of CP-what a visionary! He says that hostels are too expensive and suggests the
lovely folks of Kota should adopt these kids like stray cats. Idea hai sirji:
"Hey, Mrs. Sharma, can you raise my kid to be an IITian? And while you’re at it, maybe throw in some life skills? Thanks!"
Rich coming from someone who runs a coaching institute that charges an arm and a leg?
Pratap-bless his heart-talking about "caliber" and "deserving."
Sir your job is to teach us type"chitty chitty bang bang" in GTA so that my car can fly.
Sure, there's some truth there. But let’s be real:
It shouldn’t just be about cracking the code to get into IIT like it’s a cheat code in a video game!
It should be about genuinely loving these subjects, not treating them like a ticket to ride.
"Let’s make education affordable!" he says, while raking in the cash like it's a game show. Hypocrisy much? It’s like asking the wolves to babysit the sheep!
After all this Kota chaos, you pretty much fall into one of three categories:
The Lucky One: You waltz into a good college because your daddy’s got that cash flow.
You breezed through 11th and 12th while the rest of us were losing our sanity, and now you’re just coasting on that privilege like it’s a free ride at an amusement park. 🎢
The IIT Superstar: You crack it, and suddenly you’re strutting around with that IIT badge like it’s a golden ticket. |
Some are already at the summit, living the dream, while others are still trying to climb that mountain with a mix of hope and sheer desperation.
Spoiler alert: sometimes luck just doesn’t give a damn! ⛰
The Reality Check: Daddy ain’t rich, and you didn’t crack the government college entrance.
Congrats, my friend-you’re in for a wild ride! GOOD LUCK to you, bahut mazaa aane wala hai apko.😈
I had a roommate who went to Kota for 3 years and he could not crack IIT and he said that stay there was torture. He had cousin with him, so he had someone to talk to and even play cricket that helped with stress. Kids there stay alone under immense pressure from parents and coaching staff and often speak with each other only for discussing educational stuff. That brings more loneliness and kids do not know how to handle that and take the bad road.
this Kota quota for IIT should go..good development
That guy who was giving reason is everything that is wrong with education system.
Exactly my point. He’s an absolute idiot.
Same will happen to Bangalore after sometime due to greedy localities.
Finally India is healing🎉. Parents are becoming sensible.
Maheshwari: hostels are charging more but what about coaching?
India needs a refurbished education system
Main reason for decline is due to suicide of so many students coupled with opening of new branches of coaching centres all over the India. I believe this trend will continue and in coming years most of the coaching centres will close forever.
I was told to go to Kota by my friend for IIT, or Engineering degree but me and my parents were well aware of my capabilities. I didn’t go instead took admission in polytechnic did diploma in electronic engineering, today with Ishwar Krupa am doing very well. And that my friend he has the capability he went to Kota and took iit coaching, he got 97 rank in general category got CS in IIT Delhi and is doing exceptionally well.
I request The Print to make an extensive coverage of the Engineering College ecosystem in Odisha
Great as they will be forced to focus more on education rather than on income from renting. This is a decline which will be hard to arrest now.
Now they realise that the rental extorted from students is excessive. All are callous and have their hands in the same grinder in which they put the parents and kids coming to Kota for studies.
This video shows none of the Kota people care about depressed students and students' suicide.
Kota has become a massive bussiness empire. The few castes and powerful politicians have been minting money for years due to their monopoly. For them money is more important than anything else. Thankfully changes are happening and i hope these people will understand and change accordingly.
I remember in my 8 months in kota, one girl in my hostel went crazy, another girl living across the street in another hostel hanged herself. It was a lot of pressure. Fate was kind and i got through the exam. But the place is hell.
Parents are opting for back door entry after paper leak
Best news i heard since so long
When u say kota it gives u suicidal vibe😂😂😂
What else do u expect
Most awaited situation in the interest of FUTURE of our country's YOUTH...!!
Still, parents need to do a lot for mentoring of their kids...!!!
Coaching mafia, mess owners, hostel owners & auto drivers. Everyone is looking at those children as their business opportunity. Sad!
Open public or Private Library in each village . We do not need this kind of coaching cities
Thank God people are waking up to reality 🙏
Because of Kota many undeserving people got into iit by cramming and vomiting 🤢 ready made coaching meals. Good riddance 👏 😌 👌
This whole crap needs to shutdown.... Whole Indian education system needs to collapse so that it can be rebuilt from the ground up. Otherwise with time the whole country will lag behind as our current education system produce zero innovative ideas. Our media creates hype around Indian CEOs who are just business administrators. Our media never focuses on people like Manu Gulati or Raja Koduri who are among the world leaders in tech innovations and these people are actually making sure that advancements continues.
The Real Reason Placements in IITs !
Which has been abysmal for last so many years !!
And the General Unemployment Sceraio especially the Lay offs in IT Sector !!
Unless that Changes Kota is going to be Whittle down further !!
data is less because the real numbers were never reported . There exisits a nexus among local police ,coaching centres and media . Media gets money from adv. of coachings the police provides protection and in turn the coaching give a huge discount or even teach kids of police for free
Good
They abused Bihar students and they will suffer .
These business are good for education and nearby people but exploitation of students and parents is at peak,
So it good to see. Atleast they can access good service from home studying using edtech.
I'm very happy. Self-Study on youtube. Thanks to Free Western Education. 😊
This is actually going to happen schools are also going to be deserted soon.
Very good
Everyone is only concerned and complaining about money. No one is concerned about students.
GOOD
PHYSICSWALLA ZINDABAAD
ALAKH PANDEY ZINDABAAD.
Pura saal ka online course 4000 ya 5000 mein zindabaad..
At least parents are coming to terms not all children are Sheldon cooper they are normal kids too
Good. People will learn their lesson not to be greedy…
Very good situation.
GET OUT!
Thank God 🙏
Great.
is it real , i mean it is coaching capital of india and students from all over the country come to prepare for prestigious exam such jee and neet which are very tough
Wow 30% decline is significant.
Actually, this is good 👍
UPSC exam must be MCQ based only
Education should not be a business.
It's great news that Kota is being defamed. Craze on IIT should go down.
hostel owner to Choching Institute with local people including Auto wala all are harnessing the students and there parents.... They think students are Monkey making Machine. I request to students who want to perseue IIT JEE or NEET stay or you should relaay on local choching at home town kota does not add any benefit to your career or go with online .
Good riddance
AI is automating all engineering jobs 😢😢😢😢😢
Honking in India city, so disturbing, they just honk unnecessary
shut kota, shut mukharjee nagar etc. these are good development.
Coaching has become millionaire thing now and no one can afford
Don't give birth to children to suffer in this world please l 😢😮😢😢
Nahi bhai aise na socho 😢
This is very good for the people of India at least using their brain effectively in era of digital revolution no need of physical class rooms virtual class rooms and their methods are far more better than physical one which also enhances your efficiency and the degree from anywhere Whether it's IIT IIM IISC any Central or State University in end mostly end up with being the Graduate or post graduate been an Unemployed or Underemployed who ever says anything but this is Today's Reality .
This is all bullshit to say that only an environment generates great minds these coaching institutes are just a bubble and generate cramming minds for different competitive exams no regulations just because the government is earning huge revenue from these institutions and many politicians bureaucrats, business firms have invested their capital in this industry and taking enormous dividend on corpse of Students never leave your city or town for preparation.
Let we explain this most of these students are lured to study by big dreams. I feel they should take up rural jobs and leave big jobs to urban fools.
Kota pura Students industri pa he hai
India may be the most populous country globally, it still is only responsible for 4% to 5% of global GDP. As its a $4 tn economy now, it needs to stop divisive policies against minorities and allow population to flourish as India's natural birth rate is below the natural death rate ... eventually it is not going to grow beyond 1.5 billion. Its time to rethink its strategy as some of its villages are emptied and are suffering from a net decrease in population.
There are no divisive policies against minorities
Good, it's a horrible place
Iit mei bhi placement nahi ho raha kon jayega kota
Its never guiding bot a money minting factory which will never tell the capability to take proper course as per their interest & capability all the students are given addmission fees is only the criteria
