I have tested a dozen 5G modem and gateway solutions but these are my current favorites. Although I use it in the middle of Silicon Valley, it also works very well in rural situations. On a previous video, I discovered those towers some 7.33 miles from a dead spot along a highway that I often travel. I though it would be a good test to see if I could grab something, but I was not expecting to get such good results. These two antenna/modems are among the very best I have tested.

Peter, your technical skills are priceless to electronic geeks like me 😀👍
agradezco que hagas video de elsys
Thanks, Peter, and I hope the surf was great. This demonstrates why it's ridiculous to care about 5G or to claim that 4G is obsolete. They are both LTE. Folks might need 5G if they are in a football stadium or other congested area with thousands of users per cell, but most people will never maximize the bandwidth of a 4G connection.
4K is too much for a phone screen, but you can stream 4K video with 15-20Mbps and serve simultaneous 4K streams to a 5-person household with less than 90Mbps, so hearing people get upset that they're "only" getting 250Mbps in tests is just bizarre.
I never care whether I have 4G or 5G service and neither should you. Congestion and latency (ping) are the factors that matter to your usage.
I agree. Most people don't know that 5G NSA, the version received by every single T-Mobile gateway, is based on 4G LTE. It is the primary signal! 5G is the secondary signal. 4G is not going away for a very long time. It travels well and is the backbone of most of the 5G equipment out there
nerdin out before 8:00 a.m., on your way to go surfing, what a time to be alive
Awesome video brother. Thanks for sharing. Keep the content coming. Enjoy your day.
Thanks for forwarding me this newest video.
I’m sold, for my needs, this will remedy the issues I’m currently experiencing.
Nothing is as simple as it seems, and I’m not the most tech savvy person.
I’m worried I’ll struggle changing over to this Elsys.
I take the sim out of my T-Mobile home internet device, place it into the Elsys and place it in its best location. Run an Ethernet cable from the Elsys to the T-Mobile home internet device?
If this Elsys is as great as I’m seeing in your videos, and I won’t have issues with it, I’ll buy it now.
Let us know how it goes. When you buy it from the Wireless Haven you get Richard and he has a series of videos that will help you get it sorted. If you still can't get it, he gives you his phone number in Tennessee (he is available M-F during normal hours). You will have no issue. Let me know what speeds you get!
Anyone else remember when many cell phones had an external antenna plug right next to the replaceable battery compartment? (sigh)
yes, but you will also remember those were analog phones. Remember what it was like surfing the web on your phone using 3G?? It was terrible!!
Where did you get that extendable pole? Keep up the good work!
He stated in a reply to his last video filmed from that location that it is from a pole/limb saw...just took the saw head off and slips the radio on.
Oh thanks!
It is true, it is a pruning pole. I do not think it would be suitable for permanent installation as it is very flexible but it sure it since for a quick demo pole because it can be easily transported.
How many weird looks did you receive from the passers by? 😂 That's a good result with the speeds that you managed to attain especially from 7.3 miles away.
Actually I was on a small road right off the freeway, so there was only one car and 2 stray dogs while I was there.
Peter you do great work. I may switch my client in Orient point to this depending on if I can pull signal from across the long island sound
Are you a MSP?
I wish I would have tripped over your page before I bought the Waveform 4x4. My service on T-Mo (G4AR gateway) is very acceptable, but as they say - more is more. Thanks for sharing!
The Waveform 4x4 MIMO is an excellent antenna but the radio is still the radio. The 4GAR does get band n77 which should be coming on line in the coming months. That will boost your scores, still more is more. 😁
I was thinking the same thing. Anyone want to buy a waveform 4x4?
@@donloggins863 how much you want for it and how much to ship to Oklahoma
Incredible device, made in Brazil 🇧🇷 send more videos about Ultra 🙏🏻
Did you catch my earlier ones? I have several like this ruclips.net/video/trkwxC8j0nY/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/SqJ5e8w8iio/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/gMRfklUD_E4/видео.html
Exactly the test I needed. Thanks!
Thanks. These modems have a button, it beeps to show you the direction of the signal it finds but you can also remove the SIM and hit the same button. It will do a full scan and show you all the signals it receives and who owns them. Super cool features that I have not seen from any other manufacturer.
Your video sold me. Purchased right after. Used your code as well. Thank you. Im constantly testing cellular antennas and equipment
@@christianperi thanks and let us know how it goes.
@@PeterC408 Yeah would love to see some more videos on it!
Great video where did you get your extended pole looking forward to your reply Kraig from Washington Stathe I already have the 4g LTE version and going to invest in the 5G version sometime before the end of the year and i have the other unit you have in the video to act as a modem as well
@@ksk101963 The pole is a fiberglass pole that came with a tree trimming pole saw. I simply removed the saw portion and strapped an antenna to it for testing. I would not recommend fiberglass for a permanent pole it moves way too much.
@@PeterC408 ok thanks anything you can recommend or maybe a long outdoor metal pole
Hey Kraig, I got a really nice pole from Home depot that I use for my TV antenna. It is very thick and very strong, doesnt move an inch! It looks like this one www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-2-3-8-in-Dia-x-8-ft-15-Gauge-Galvanized-Steel-Chain-Link-Fence-Corner-Post-328954DPTSEB/313173553
@@PeterC408 thanks Peter great choice will definitely check it out have a good week
Even though the towers are 7.3 miles away, you still have a direct line of site. Does this Modem work the same if you were in a valley with tress and hills blocking the line of site?
It works very well but "the same" has me scratching my head. Direct line of site is a blessing but it is not completely necessary. These devices have a really nice aiming feature that uses the frequency of a beep tone to help you aim. That should take you a long way... but "the same?", no nothing in radio is the same as anything else.
Hay bud been a fan long time from solo man days . any way trying to upgrade my 6.o X92 tv box any way you can help? thanks
I always feel that you need to go to the source to get firmware but... sometimes you find it other places. Be careful. That said, I did find a post that claims to have it xdaforums.com/t/x92-3gb-32gb-custom-rom-android-9.4406415/ It has been posted by the forum moderator, so that gives it some credibility.... but what I really want to tell you is to get a new GoogleTV box that will stay up to date forever. This is one that I tested and it is pretty great. ruclips.net/video/3AKEUEsOv9s/видео.html I got it to play games, voice recognize my cameras and cast from my phone. Solid investment Dynalink Google TV amzn.to/4eYDzG7
Oh
How hard is this to set up with an at&t sim card?
It was not difficult at all. Plug and play... Richard at NewHavenWireless will be there to help you if you have any questions.
@@PeterC408 thank you
Did I miss something? Why did you put the phone in airplane mode?
I put the phone in airplane mode so that you knew all the data was coming to me from my AT&T fed access point and not from my T-Mobile (Mint) SIM in my phone.
Do you have a quick setup page on elsas 5g start up ?
This is a very powerful device. It can be configured in a variety of different ways. This is the primary reason that it is being sold through value added resellers (VARs) instead of through Amazon. You might need some help configuring this device to do what you need it to do and luckily this device comes with it. Richard at the Wireless Haven is very knowledgeable and has created a number of videos to guide you through setup. He is also available M-F by phone. It is pretty simple given the SIM and service that you have.
where did you get that pole?
It was just a pole I had laying around. It came with a tree trimming pole saw... I just pulled the head off and took it for testing.
@@PeterC408 ill look for something I bought the 5G version of this I saw it in your last video i want to test it before i mount it to the side of the house
That's not bad Speeds at all but Elsys is way too expensive especially considering Third Party Cellular Gateway Companies are coming out with SDX75 Cellular Gateways. If Elsys doesn't come down on their Prices and stop making them so expensive then they won't Sell many they definitely won't be seeing Josh Farley spending that kind of money on an Antenna. The most I'd spend on one is about what Waveform charges for their Antenna's. Waveform is reasonable when it comes to Antenna's and Elsys is just Greedy! You also can't Upgrade Elsys Antenna's to an SDX75 Chip like you can with most Third Party Cellular Gateways themselves basically what I mean is you can't just use it as a Third Party Antenna without using it's Built-In Cellular Gateway you basically would have to keep buying New Elsys Antenna's to get the latest and greatest Chips inside of them. $700.00 or more for every New Antenna with the latest Chip in it? No thanks!
You obviously have a problem with the price but let me educate you a little as this whole thing has been an education to me. First WaveForm is an excellent antenna but it is only an antenna, Elsys is selling you a 4x4 MIMO antenna with a radio inside - this give you a "lossless" connection to the Modem and gives you much more freedom over placement. Instead of being tethered to your gateway location by 20 feet, you can place this Elsys modem up to 300 feet away - its powered over ethernet. The WaveForm solution will give you a better signal to your existing T-Mobile provided Gateway. A Gateway is both a modem and your access point (WiFi). The best place for your modem is seldom the best place for your access point. Sure you can hookup another router but then you have a network condition known as double NAT - which comes with its own problem. Elsys is a modem only, in fact it allows for Bridge Mode which enables my access point (a MESH system by NetGear with full featured firmware) to get the IP address from T-Mobile directly - a very powerful configuration which allows me to correct form some weaknesses in T-Mobiles network deployment, like CG-NAT. But let's talk about value; there are other modems on the market and I have reviewed many. You could get the InvisaGig modem, also from the Wireless Haven, and it is very good. It also cost $650. Add that to the $429 WaveForm Kit and you are over $1000 to get similar performance. The closest product that I have reviewed in the Yeacomm NR610 which is also an external gateway powered over Ethernet - it is much less expensive and I have compared the two in this video ruclips.net/video/SqJ5e8w8iio/видео.html The benefit of the Elsys is that it is a directional 4x4 MIMO antenna and that it can pull in signals from much further away. Even on my test in the center of Silicon Valley (where cell towers are literally every couple of miles) the Elsys easily beat the Yeacomm by 120Mbps+ both in UpLink and in DownLink and that was with antennas all around. At this roadside test, I bet the impact would have been even greater!! Regarding those who are always waiting for "the latest chip" - there will always be a new chip coming. Small time manufacturers will always grab one sample and cobble together a prototype and release test data to build a name for themselves but it isn't real. A responsible manufacturer needs to design around a chip that has reached manufacturing volume and allow the price to come down from the sample stage and then there's months of firmware development, testing and certifications. After all that there is 6 months of FCC testing. The Elsys just came out; just passed FCC but there will always be a new chip that is about to come out. Don't be fooled, even when someone does get a hold of a sample and benchmarks it, you are a year from seeing it in a responsible design. The Elsys is a great product and a pretty good deal.
@@PeterC408 I might look into this honestly and test it out and if I would get around the same Speeds as I do currently with my Chester Cheetah V2 Gateway/Modem and Waveform 4X4 Antenna I'll just return the Elsys. I also agree with you on that with the Chips it's basically just like Phones they make New Phones every Year but that doesn't necessarily mean they are better.
@@JoshF151Tech Someone already tested the Chester Cheeta/Waveform 4x4 antenna and was raving about the increase that they saw. Go ahead and try it. I am interested to know the results. I have a feeling that you are going to like it.
@@PeterC408 Yeah like I said the worst that could happen is it could give me around the same results and I could just return it if I had to. I'll definitely keep you Updated on this whenever I get one.
Why put your phone in ✈️ mode?
@@albany12206 To show we were measuring the data from the ATT card in the modem and not the SIM card in my phone (Mint by T-Mobile). This isolates the two inputs so that the only data path left is Wi-Fi which is coming from the ATT SIM in the modem.
I wonder if COWS use this...
If anyone knows how to milk a signal, its the cows!
@@PeterC408 Lol I meant to say Cellular On Wheels, the trucks that cellular companies have whenever a cellular signal is needed in a place for rapid and emergency deployment
@@luckyday_5510 Interesting... they seem to bring a whole cellular tower on a truck but perhaps this would allow them to deploy more quickly and less expensively

Have you heard of Elsys before? They are pretty big in South America.
