This was the most informative video I've seen on the subject. Very impressive. You can hear the true experience and in what he's saying and not just some fake broscience guy.
Thank you so much for a great and informative vid! I LOVE LOVE L O V E the speed bag! Back in '88 I was taught by a Hawaiian ex-army golden gloves boxer who just happened to walk by a small gym I helped run at Helimano military reservation in Hawaii. He was selling insurance but heard me trying like hell to hit the big black bag we had. He gave me many helpful points and in a few days I had the rhythm down pat. We had a ball swivel and could still get great control and speed. I'm retired Army now and getting on in years, but want to set something small up inside my mobile home because I know what an incredible work out and cardio the bag is, not to mention endurance and hand eye coordination. All this info will help out a great deal, thanks again!
I love the "overkill" platform construction (and look) and the sandbag idea, particularly with dampening the noise and vibration as well as providing the set up with a firmer backstop to launch the bag back. The trouble I've noticed, (even after watching several videos with this set up) is what I believe is the flex in the platform slide rods and adjustment mechanism. Considering all things, these have to be the weakest link. The added weight may even exaggerate the bounce which I observed in your another video for beginners. - Although we'd would lose the convenience of being adjustable, it would seem a more robust stationary unit like the Rouge would be the best scenario to the overkill platform and sandbag combination....... In my humble opinion
Sandbag on the top of my unit stopped the majority of my vibration. Works like a charm now. Thanks very much Shraims! Also, got the pro-tidal unit from your recommendation. So much better than the stock standard. Thanks again.
First of all bro, I want to thank you so much for all your very helpful teaching videos on the speed bag. It's helped me tremendously. I really want to thank you for the tip on the swivel attachment. I bought a Title Pro wider design swivel. It's incredible. It literally doubled my skill in speed bag work. I still have a way to go but it does help to have the right tools. Keep up the awesome work! I am subscribed to your channel, so I am looking forward to future videos from you.
Thank you for your kind words and so glad my videos have helped you with your training. Currently working on a video based on many requests on how to build a thick wooden platform for the Speed bag. I hope to finish it sometime next week. Let me know if there are any specific skills you would like to see and would do my best to make videos of them.
Nice video well done your very patient. What is the type of wood you use on your platforms ? Do you know what wood would be the best to use on a platform ?Thank You
Thank you for your kind words. I used Oak on two of the three speed bags. Very heavy wood. On the third one I used Formica top that came with the platform from The manufacturer and added two more layers of wood to it. It was the faster and best setup. The oak isn’t as fast as I have hoped.
Legna Beats I don’t really like that model. Hate the swivel on it and I have a feeling vibration going to keep the platform Sliding down under its own weight.
That was the point of the speed bag though, or I could be wrong. It took me months to learn to keep it stable. Not just speed but learning how to control the wiggle and even steer the bag. If it was easier to control, would that be negating part of the benefit? I dont know.
what about apartments with dry walls? white ones. is that safe to put up with one of those wall speed bag setups..? i was gonna see about getting the doorway one but that is like 200 which i dont know why. its expensive. should just be like 60 bucks if you ask me.
Well I am afraid those things need to be installed on studs to be secure. A dry wall won't be able to handle the weight. Also these things make a lot of noise and vibration, not sure how your neighbors would like that.

Also, do you recommend the Valor speed bag platform that looks like the third platform in this video? The 2 inch thick platform. I was thinking between the Valor or the Everlast adjustable platform. I am afraid I haven't found a speed bag yet with a bladder that would NOT deflate. Sadly, I have to change those bladders from time to time. Sometimes they hold longer and sometimes they don't. It is a hit and a miss due to the cheap prices of the bladders and the low quality. The bags I like are made by Title. Hey - Would be great to hear your thoughts on this. I ordered a Title XS speed bag a few weeks ago and ended up sending it back for a replacment because the bag was lopsided. However, the replacment that came back was exactly the same and now I am looking at more images online, it appears the Title XS bags do naturally lopside? For example the one you have in the background also clearly sticks out more on its one side? Is that a common thing as I have not experienced that with other bags - it also means the bag when it gently doesn't bounce bag straight.
Hey man - do you have any advice at all. I bought a title extra small speed bag and rather than is being a perfect tear drop shape, it’s slightly misaligned to one side (lopsided) so when you hit it, gently it can angle off to the side due to it being misshaped 🤔 - is that a common issue?
I used oak for the thick platform but kept the original piece that came with it. Because the original piece is covered with a layer of formica which is smooth and helps the bag repound faster
