Kent Nishimura was born on March 1st 2003...if my math is right he's almost 18 years. On his fifth birthday he requested a guitar from his parents, the rest is history, the magic began.
I've been playing for 45 years I play a rather decent fingerstyle guitar I've never witnessed any one like this kid.
In all the months I've been enjoying his musical mastery I didn't know I shared the same birthday as him, till now. How nice.

This is exactly what I have always talked about through the years when I have said that there is a difference between someone who plays an instrument...and someone who takes an instrument and uses it to show you what is inside their head and soul. Kent is an incredible artist. Hands down THE best solo acoustic covers I've ever heard on the interwebs.

@@ofangelsanarchists2386 I take it you dont read much. And you are full of it if you think anyone can practice and be this good. I would agree that the writing of the music is the alpha....but I am discussing what this guy does with the instrument.
Lots of fingerstyle guitarists on RUclips, but Kent is the only one that plays so flawlessly. Most are comparatively sloppy, make mistakes (trained ears will hear them), or add notes that don't belong in the song. Nothing but respect for Mr. Nishimura and I will watch his career eagerly. :)
Such a joy to listen to you, Kent. You are the best. Can't believe you're only turning 20 years old this March 2023. You're gifted and what a privilege to listen to you.

Seriously though, apart from the melody line, the hook, the percussion, etc., that bass line is just so slick. No flashy showmanship, just the song and all of its nuances. Awesome talent, indeed.
Close your eyes and listen. This is amazing. I could hear the running bass just like the original song while other sounds running like a full band. So beautiful.

I've been around guitarists my whole life. And I've not ever heard anyone do a guitar justice like you do. You've got a very rare beautiful talent! If you listen @ 2:20, you could swear there is a backing track of a bassline, that's how good this guy is.

@@gtlindley74 First of all, I don't mean to ridicule your opinion and impression at all. Because I know that there's been still a few people who can't believe (or don't want to admit) that Kent can play the bass line, the melody and the percussive hits at the same time. I know what they mean. And I can totally understand that they have their impression like that. I think it's very natural in a way.
However, Kent has been performing all of the songs he uploaded on his RUclips channel WITHOUT any backing track, or over dub, or multi-tracking or accompaniment, etc. at all. It's just true. I don't know if he recorded this song live or not. But it doesn't mean that there is a backing track of the bassline, does it?
Fortunately, I have seen his playing this song more than 4 times at his solo concert here in Japan and he's always playing exactly the same. I don't know if he plays this song on this RUclips video live or not. But there is no possibility for him to overdub or something like that. He doesn't need to do that, as he completely can do that with no gimmick, any number of times.
Using 6-string acoustic guitar, he can get a whole band sound on each of the original songs he chose. That's the most important for Kent when he creates his sensitive original arrangement. I hope that you enjoy many other videos by Kent on his own RUclips channel below.

Having played guitar for years now all I can say is that Kent has excellent technique, artistic skills and above all, TASTE music.

Kent is The Best
Just realized Kent is tuning the open A string down to 1st octave G, not the second octave as you might assume. It's actually tuned lower than the low E string which is already detuned to a C. So with the capo on the 3rd fret, the open 5th string he's playing is an actual A# note from the first octave. If you listen to the first bar closely and watch his fingers hit the A string, you'll hear the G , you will see. This is the first time I've noticed someone tune strings out of order. I presume this is so he can play the bassline in the native bass octave. Very clever.

Guy you're something out of this world! I have told you before, but I can't avoid doing it. Fantastic interpretation all the way Kent! Like all your others covers, you're able to transmit through your guitar, every single feeling, every single mood of the original song. Of course, you can find very good players out there, but in my opinion, you stand in a higher level man.

Only a handful of guitarists can aspire to this riduculous level of muscisianship. You can hear all the nuances of the original foriegner recording. Bass, vocal and band accompaniment... Close to perfection and setting new standards. The audio quality is unsurpassed as well. Well done my friend!
