One thing to Jungle Hijinx I've always appreciated is that transition into night. On top of everything else, Rare takes a moment to brag about how they can wield the full power of the Super Nintendo's sixteen bits to change the time of day right before the player's eyes. I respect that moxie!
oh really great first stage is the first stage of Mario three! I also think sonic two is perfection. I think the day turning tonight only happens in donkey Kong one
Yeah and the following level is at night time like it's a continuation amid a rainstorm. Then when you get to the end of that level the opposite happens. Instead of it going from day to night it goes from night to day as the rain stops and the sun rises. Then later on there's another jungle level that starts at daytime but then it goes into a cool looking sunset.
They thanked me for listening to the whole thing on a jog and congratulated me for getting my steps in, on that episode, I wanted to show I was a good listener!
3:13 yknow something i just noticed, between mario and donkey kong, hammer bros and neckys, its generally the enemies that throw projectiles in an arc that are complete bullshit to take out. but neckys are easier since they dont move around nearly as much, so its a fair challenge in the first level.
A good intro makes a game so much better, especially with how easy it is to drop a game within the first hour. DJC's first level is just plain ol efficient
You missed THEE BEST extra life spot in the level that I only discovered like 20 years after first playing it in ‘94! At the end of the level at the top of the exit cave, if you jump with Rambi and “yoshi jump” off him you get a 3up balloon! Great video! Masterful level design!

Basic Braining has one advantage Jungle Hijinxs doesnt, which is narrative foreshadowing. Jungle Hijinxs only has narrative foreshadowing as there isnt anything to foreshadow.
Hijinxs has MOTIVATION! AND in the GBA version, if you go back to DK's Treehouse late in the game, Very Gnawty will be there slumming around and will be chased off, thus showing the narrative progression and the continued respect DK is gaining through the game. IT'S PATHOS. but no you right olly's pretty sublime.
@@DesigningFor I suppose for a plot like Donkey Kong Country, the only way it could be more narratively foreshadowing is if the Banna horde had a rude letter from K Rool on it
If you climb up the exit cave with rambi and jump with him at the highest point and then jump off him you'll get a blue balloon, I didn't even know that existed and I've been playing the game for 15 years at that point
0:15 i actually kinda like the idea that the dash boots arent there until chill penguin, cause it allows you to play mega man x like a traditional mega man game, with a wall climb, and gives the player the agency to choose when to use the new tools and new pacing. it eases those who were looking for something like a new numbered mega man game, while letting people who already know mega man x just skip to it immediately. and from what i remember, the levels are generally fairly well built around it, if you ignore the start of boomer kuwanger's stage. its a weird decision, but its one that i kinda like.
I’ve always loved the animal buddy bonus stages, but today you made me realize I just love the bonus theme and not the actual bonus. It’s just so much of a banger I don’t realize how bad the level is.
The levels are dull and lack any real challenge, but it's nice to get a massive chunk of extra lives and I did eventually develop strategies to really max out each level's potential. They're not exactly amazing but they could've been worse. They could've been the yellow switch palace.
I keep seeing that stock heaven background and it always makes me think of the video I made where Donkey Kong dies and it's played as straight as possible
I may love DKC2 the best of the orig trig, but there's no comparing it's starting level to DKC's. DKC knocks that one out of the park. As an aside, I also love the K.Rool fight. I find it's design more interesting and enjoyable than most, and not just for the trick ending. Oh yes I love DKC2's boss fight more, but it's still up there for me.
wow , i never thought about the level in any of the ways you did here , but i still also consider this level a magical thing who's design was a masterpiece :'D

Some might cry foul at the blasphemy of a photoshop of DK's face over a traditionally religious painting, and they would be right, so I would like to apologize. DK clearly should parallel to a prime deity, not a demigod, I should have used the Sistine chapel ceiling but it lacks a crowd for him to teach. A compromise was made and I stood by it at the time, but looking back I should have tried harder to respect DK's omnipotent power and influence during his hallowed month. Sorry, I'll do better next time!
@@DesigningFor I do understand (I haven’t got around to the Dk games) but these two are ridiculous power trips cleaving through or eating anything in your path with the push of a button watching as everything falls to its demise man it’s exciting to watch
It's neat but I disagree that it's better then X's intro. And both of them fall short of the intro to Super Metroid, which has no fluff, no gimmicks, no meaningless shinies. It teaches you how to control the game, that it's gunna get scary, and to expect the unexpected. It's a bounty hunter license test, and only a hunter will survive.
Yeaaaah Let's get this video to a lot of views in the first hour so that it gets love from youtube Algorithm bless this video which i liked even before watching it because it's that good Seriously, sometimes i end up pissed off because i can't like it again after watching it, fix that youtube Lots of words lots of engagement, yadda yadda
I completely disagree with every point in this video. The wait to charge mechanics are what u don't want in a platformer. That's the same for just barreling through levels. The fact that the tree jumps go off screen in the first level makes no sense either. Players aren't at all knowledgeable on the range of either character. Sothat statement makes not sense. The bonus levels aren't great at all. But sometimes are a lot funner tha the actual level itself. The blank room that says kongas hoard leaves you with this feeling that the level was unfinished. I never felt that it was something to return to as a kid. Obviously as an adult it's obvious. And like states before, the best secret of the level wasn't eve mentioned. The 3up Ballon at the end of th level. Sorry dude, but u swung and missed about every point that you said in this video.

This level to me feels like exploring a new world for the first time and has a vibe of up and at them and then there rambi *RUN FOR YOU LIFE*
It is indeed the perfect first level, with a fantastic look, soundtrack, and design.
I can literally play it blindfolded, it's THAT good of design.
o: i've gotta try this lol
From the observations about the treehouse, I can tell you're a Kongversation listener.

It’s actually 2 blue balloons and you get six lives.

Jungle Jazz, great stuff
You didn’t mention the secret blue balloons above the exit if you leap off Rambi at the apex of his jump.
still one of the best dkc videos there is.....
I 'aww'ed and laughed at Kaiji and Naoto
“Rambi destroys anything effortlessly!” Kirby’s ultra sword and hypernova abilities “are we jokes to you
Yeah Kirby has to slow down when he uses those.
Only Nago the Cat compares. That boy is fantastic I love him.

Klump can surprisingly be taken out with Diddy’s cartwheel.
you forgot to mention how the music for this stage is bumpin too
The game could do better at teaching people how important the roll off the edge and jump tech is.
The first level is so good it almost makes the rest of them seem disappointing in comparison.
The only thing that annoys me is the spelling...is it Hinjinx, or HijinxES? Jungle Japes definitely rolls off the tongue better.
Mega man X not having dash from the intro stage is such a missed opportunity.

do you mean the space station or before getting to brinstar?
"Cycle-based"? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought all 3 DKC games loaded every enemy and mechanism in set positions/timings?
