      Thank you so much! ✊️ I'm using Lightburn Software, so there you have to set the speed at minimum and the power at 100% then you select the material thickness and if the material is soft that's all, if not you can increase the thickness and try more passes. Cheers!

    I was really surprised to see the wood sandblasted. I'm not a restorer so I have no clue if it would have been easier or not but I found myself wo during why sandblasting rather than sanding for that part? The restoration was well done and beautiful! Kudos !!

    • @rustyshadesrestoration
      @rustyshadesrestoration  Год назад +1

      Thank you so much, Tonja. Sandblasting wood is a known and common practice among restorers. It cleans the wood better and doesn't harm it like sandpaper, especially if you have some carvings on it. Here you can read more: startwoodworkingnow.com/sandblasting-wood/
      Cheers!

    • @Bob1923Dobbs
      @Bob1923Dobbs Год назад

      Why bother? You puttied and painted it. Also, that wood will likely resemble swiss cheese on the inside and be structurally compromised. One would think the only reason to preserve the original wood is for aesthetics but painting it renders that reason a moot point. Why not just replace the wood? Not to be an arm-chair quarterback but wouldn't it have made more sense to impregnate the pieces with an epoxy resin that would strengthen the wood and still allow you to see the grain and the wormy texture? You would also have been able to stain it as you wanted before applying resin.

    • @rustyshadesrestoration
      @rustyshadesrestoration  5 месяцев назад

      Hi! Because lead was present in paint till the 70s and it is very toxic for humans if we inhale it. The test helps me to know how to clean the part. If positive, I'm using a paint stripper because it doesn't produce tiny particles of lead paint that can contaminate the working place like a sandblaster will do.

About the laser, idk what means expensive for you. On the market it is 700$ and without trying to pitch you or smtg like that, in my opinion the price it is well balanced with the machine quality and what can be done with it. You can find more info in the description, as well a 15% or 50$ discount that I obtained from this deal for my viewers that are interested. Thank you for watching!

    How long does it take for the worms to vacate the wood before you apply the wood putty ??

      Usually, I wait for 2-3 days after I'm using the spray. After that, I apply wood putty.

    BUT: What brand of gloves are you wearing, and where can I buy them?.
    Thanks❤

    What do do you if there is lead on the item you are working on ??

      I'm cleaning it with a gel paint stripper and wearing gloves and a mask, and then I'm contacting the company that deals with this kind of trash for proper disposal. Luckily in my city, there is such a company.
      Anyway, important, it is to don't create dust while removing the paint, like sandblasting or manual sanding.

    Good work! However, I wouldn’t have restored the wood. It was badly damaged by the wood destroying insects and the chemical that was applied to kill them.

      Maybe you missed the part where he completely restored the wood; this is a restoration video. Check the title.
      Modern woodworm treatments are VERY safe for humans. I'm sure he let it set for the requisite 24hrs; again, don't know if you caught it but he covered the holes in wood putty and used _food safe paint_ to finish this lovely piece. It's fine.
      Please try to keep up in the future.

      Retiring the wood would've been better had he used epoxy and left to where you could see the worm holes. Gave it very good character

      @@medicbabe2ID Thanks for the jerk comment. The wood is rubbish and I wouldn't have "restored" it either. Putting wood putty over trash doesn't stop it being trash. Thats like restoring a rusty car with bog instead of fresh metal.

      @@medicbabe2IDi woulnt call it restored when it's painted , if restored it would be visable Wood as when it was new , and used putty still it had more craters than moon , "new" old Wood would be a better path

    Great restoration! I don't agree with the choice of colors.... but you did the a great job nonetheless!...only but I have is that I think it would look a lot better if you replaced the wood instead of painting it as the gray color is not really attractive, or maybe use some other materials to cover the insects holes, and plug the screw-holes with wooden pegs? 🤔 anyway! great job!

    Did you fill the wood with poison, cover it with food safe paint? On a item to be used with food?

    • @rustyshadesrestoration
      @rustyshadesrestoration  Год назад

      After you use poison, you have to let the wood for at least three days outdoors or in a well-ventilated area; then if covered with food-safe paint, you can use it.
      In my case, this slicer will be used as a decorative piece, the single-use was for my cutting test.
