Hahaha yeah or any decent kickboxer it’s Muay Thai guy no way. But against an average guy in the street yes. But you should train as if you’d face a proper kicker otherwise no point.
I am gonna say the problem I see, through personal experience, why this might not be the way you want to block a guy that can really kick properly. First don't just block with your forearm like that. I know so many guys at my gym can through that block or probably break your bone if you block like that. Brace the kick with your whole arm like the way you block a hook (still in many professional fight humerus, ulna and radius was broken), or move out. I am 5 foot 6, and constantly have to spar with guys that are much taller. They can generate so much power because of size, and that kicking to my head is just a body kick height for him. So he can come at you with A LOT of power. Even when we spar at 50% power, I know there is no way I can defend myself with these type of blocks if we ever go 100%. { The way he catches is also not 100% full prove. Once again a heavier kicker is going to kick through, slide past your the shoulder guard and hit your head. At one point he shows the block and a kick to the opponent while standing on one feet. Unless the guy's kick has absolutely have no power, you would be off balance from a proper kick. Many guys can also change elevation when they kick, they can make adjustment in a split second and completely skip over that shoulder. Once again if I catch a kick like that when I spar a bigger guy I can be knocked out. { The thing you don't need a bigger guy to break that block and catch shown in the video. There is even some guys my height, or slightly taller then me who I train with can generate so much power in their kicks that they can move you. This look cool in a drill. In a sparring match or fight you won't be able to pull a lot of stuff from this video. There are much simpler, more elegant type of catches and blocks you can do.
I would not do a catch for a kick at all but this is going to depend on where you block the kick. If you block a kick like that close to the foot your taking the power. However if you block a kick like the close to the knee then there is much less power. Which means much more chance of success. It is kinda like a baseball bat. In so many MMA fights, Thai boxing fights, , the "round house kick" as some people call it, has been used so successfully to knock out the opponent by hitting the side of the head. If Adam Chan Sifu's "bong sull" with the low kick is that effective, why has no one used this technique in MMA and Thai boxing fights?
Here is another fighter with a Wing Chun background winning in MMA using one of the techniques demonstrated in this video. ruclips.net/video/H3E6RmzXrnc/видео.html
Different techniques for different situations. Not everyone kicks the same. What might not work for a professional fighter can work on your average bloke. For example, the takedowns and joint locks that cops use everyday would never work in the cage.
@@RagingUtai I see.....Then is Chan sifu can "anticipate" the kick coming, then surely some MMA fighters (among the thousands of them worldwide) must be able to learn the technique too!!
@@blockmasterscott um....."Not everyone kick the same"....Ok in that case adapt the bong-sull accordingly then.....🙂 Oh btw we are talking about defence against a "round house kick" here. Takedown and arm locks are different things.
Exactly, I teach my students to position and cover against the roundhouse. Using bong sau is asking for a break. Not to mention, most people throwing roundhouse kicks are skilled enough to set up a roundhouse, not just throw one.
Been analyzing roundhouse kicks for a year now and practicing them to. I do some light sparring with my 16 year old son and I've accidentally blocked his kicka with traditional karate blockings ... DON'T use your arms unless your a shaolin munk who has been practicing from the age of 5 to turn your body into an actual wepon.
Do it in sparring... do it when you have not selected it and told the attacker what to do. Do it when its hidden behind other offensive attacks. Do it correctly and step off line... then show it working ...
The interesting thing is, what he's doing is only 10% of the whole idea of doing simultaneous defense and offense against a roundhouse. If he REALLY knew how to use his Tan Sau and Bong Sau, everyone would have to wear shin guards to even train, so their shins don't break.
If someone threw a REALLY HARD roundhouse against him and he did his Tan Sau like that, his Tan Sau would collapse and he could dangerously injure himself. But whatever, at least he is having fun. I rather learn to fight than to have fun, but to each their own.

To me blocking a roundhouse is like blocking a stick or bat - either u block NOT at their full extension (where there is FULL power) - like jamming them - or use your whole body behind the block - if u stick out just your arm at full swing - u may break your arm.
@@gunnerhiro394 Like they say, a hard force agaist something hard, will result in something breaking. I think it should be a last resort option if you can't manage distance,
The time it takes for someone to lift their leg to kick you is more than enough time for you to move in and do whatever the situation presents for you to do.
@@djehutisundaka7998 by the time you react, it's too late. Unless you know a kick is coming and at the right distance, it's near impossible to block. It's easy when you tell a partner to kick and then ready for it. You not have have very fast reaction skills and muscles, and train for hrs for instand nody reflecx and countering
@@RagingUtai Kicking requires positioning for balance. One cannot simply kick without telegraphing a change in one's posture. The higher the kick, the greater the telegraph. There's no act of mobility that can be engaged in on one leg that cannot be countered faster on two. That's why so many kickers have often fallen prey to grapplers.
For example, the takedowns and joint locks that cops use everyday would never work in the cage.
because you need to have good reaction speeds depending on you distance. If you don;t anticipate the kick coming, or caught off guard, you are gone.
@@RagingUtai I see.....Then is Chan sifu can "anticipate" the kick coming, then surely some MMA fighters (among the thousands of them worldwide) must be able to learn the technique too!!
@@blockmasterscott um....."Not everyone kick the same"....Ok in that case adapt the bong-sull accordingly then.....🙂
Oh btw we are talking about defence against a "round house kick" here. Takedown and arm locks are different things.
A bong sau on a Muy Thai kick and u will break your arm.
Do it correctly and step off line... then show it working ...
this guy clearly has no idea what a muay thai round kick feels like.
Some of those round house kicks are as quick as bullets and aims to the head. Hope this counter technique works with a taekwondo guy
WoW !

Doesn't work in real combat. You can't parry away a full power roundhouse that easily and it's a KO if your timing is off just by milliseconds.

I would like to see a " real fight ".. to determine the winner 🤔
Real fight please
Xu Xiaodong has destroyed China's Wing Chun masters...please challenge Xu to redeem Wing Chun's effectiveness...as for now I have the impression that Wing Chun is not effective in real fights.
All up untill now, everything seems legit, high level technique and realistic advices but this..... My hand was broken once because i tried to block a side kick aka mawashi geri in karate using the part of the arm which is between the wrist and the elbow
To me blocking a roundhouse is like blocking a stick or bat - either u block NOT at their full extension (where there is FULL power) - like jamming them - or use your whole body behind the block - if u stick out just your arm at full swing - u may break your arm.
This is not a block, it’s a deviation, he explains in the video how a block would break your bone.
@@gunnerhiro394 Like they say, a hard force agaist something hard, will result in something breaking. I think it should be a last resort option if you can't manage distance,
Super wao
Hey, I often share you on Facebook. You have a facebook you wouldn't mind me tagging?
The time it takes for someone to lift their leg to kick you is more than enough time for you to move in and do whatever the situation presents for you to do.
not it isn't ,some kicks are done under a second
@@RagingUtai And moving in is done in under a second.
If kicking were supremely effective, strikers wouldn't feel a need to incorporate a knowledge of grappling and fighters proficient in only Muay Tai would dominate MMA.
Y’all in the comments don’t understand that bone conditioning is important I know guys who can block kicks with one arm and take leg kicks easy cuz their bones are super dense our bones are stronger then metal and tougher then steel
Those are some nice oak floors.
Thanks sir and I love you I'm sohail from Pakistan
If he kicks a little bit higher it's kick in the head and KO... not very safe technique imo.
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
If the last 2 videos had such doubtful comments saying "it wont work against a real fighter"......
Oh my, I wonder how much worse those comments in this video will be.
SCREAM THEGUY he showed in the past that he can defend him self 😂
You want to block a shin flying at you at about 100 miles per hour with your arm? Hope you have P.O.P. in your first aid kit.
Folks please dont try to block a round kick. Move back out of range or move forward to jam it.
Okay.. This is pretty much meaningless. A rear leg roundhouse kick is SO VERY telegraphed as to be a nothing attack. Maybe if The attacker set it up with a lead jab or something. But you can see this attack coming from a mile away and can nullify any power it might have pretty easily. Beating a stupid fighter is easy. Show us how to beat a smart fighter.
Cute. I'd like to see you try that defense against a seasoned Kyokushin or Shotokan fighter for fun. Then, for real "kicks" we'll send in a Muay Thai fighter and have him roundhouse kick you.

Hi lm in Kurdistan
Bullshido who the fuck is gonna kick the shoulder in a streetfight only a traind fighter would kick and he wouldn’t kick you on your shoulder
Never try to catch a kick. If kick is fast or change angle you will be ko. Just front kick the thigh or block with knee up like nut thai
Lets see it in a real fight, you don't have a real fighting video...
Hopeless, try that real time against a nak Muay and see what happens. Wing chun has some good strategies against the round kick, this ain’t one of em

Here come the MMA fanbois butthurt and in denial how easy their Muay Thai sport is to beat.
Yeah, easy to beat and that’s why 99,9 % wing chun guys lose to mma/muay thai...
@@tprnbs easy to beat if you know how, training properly... most kung fu schools don't spar or train their striking like boxers nor train against a variety of realistic attacks... doesn't mean MMA isn't counterable using kung fu techniques. Face it, as Adam shows in this vid, taking out a Thai roundhouse kicker is easy. It's telegraphed, overcommitted and vulnerable.
@@danielskipp1 this is not an answer to the question. a truly proper roundhouse kick is not so easy to counter, that is why usual counter-demonstrations are against improper roundhouse kick esp. when the defender knows that the other will throw an often improper roundhouse
Daniel Skipp i know that most TMA schools today have crappy teaching methods (no sparring etc) that’s why i joined mma gym after my sensei died because i couldn’t find another good karate school in my area. Properly trained kung fu/karate works i agree with that. Roundkick is not so easy to counter if someone setup it with some punches or other kicks
Demonstrations always makes every thing look easy and applicable. Muay Thai round house kicks legit snaps forearms and break legs.
