Where has the time gone? Was a boy when I first saw what I thought was an angel singing this song in black and white t.v. with Art, simple guitar and voice of an angel echoing on stage. .
This is just gorgeous. He still has it. Remarkably he is singing the song in it's original key. His voice is more breathy and airy at this point but still delivers. The most beautiful love song ever written and performed.
Even as we age - the music never grows old. I'm 64 now - but I remember the first time I ever really took note of "For Emily..." - living at age 19 in northern California, far away from my family. It still grabs me now - as it did then. Truly astounding! Thanks, Art - for everything!
I like this recording even more because I had previously seen the same song and artist in a 1967 video. I find it very questionable whether every singer 49 years later is able to fascinate other people with his art. Thanks Artie from Germany!
Oh I love you Art Garfunkel. I just got a cd of S&G greatest hits, every single one is a gem, but this too is my favourite. Beautiful vocals and so glad you are still singing Art.
I am normally suspicious of technical virtuosity re:vocalists....but damnnnnnn......this man has not lost a step in 60 years! It helps to have sublime material but that sublime voice takes it to another level. This song and Kathy's Song are my fav S&G
I found this song in 1993 and instantly fell in love with it. In 1996 I found the most beautiful honey haired girl named Emily and I played this song for her. We dated for almost two years. I felt this song was meant for me. I still think of Emily often.
SUPERB still has his voice, a trie legend shame Paul wasnt with him. I was a singer with a couple of amateur bands over the years but a throat infection finally ended my singing days 😔 It makes me realise how much a singer must cherish their voice and vocal chords asTHEY are their ‘income’ once they go......game over.
The original recording was in the key of F, while this performance is in G. I wonder why he raised the key a full step. I also wonder why the guitarist didn't play the part Paul Simon created.
@tom67 Celebrate how he enriched this earth with his many talents and honour him for that. This world became a better place because of his songwriting skills, because of his beautiful tender and soft and gentle voice because of his skills on the guitar. Without him we wouldn't have these timeless beautiful Simon and Garfunkel masterpieces. Yes Artie was the better singer of them and was as important for the duo as Paul. I know Paul has this arrogant character features but please do me favour and forgive him his weaknesses, minority and superiority complexes. And think about your own weaknesses instead. A true friend loves you with your weaknesses and your strengths and tries to forever remind you on the things that makes you valuable as a friends, your strengths. When I had serious issue's with depression Simon and Garfunkel's music was to me like medicine that had the potential to cure my soul and my sadness. Since that time both of them Paul and Artie became my idols and were my idols for a very long time. I still have the uttermost respect for both of them. I always considered both as friends as soulmates and I always felt a strong spiritual connection with them. I admired Arties angelic voice and it was always clear that Paul can't sing equally brilliantly like a shining diamond but to me that never was the point. His vocal abilities were good enough to deliver great performances that go straight into the heart as a soloist and with Artie as a duo. As a guitarist Paul was to me in many ways like a god. I play now the guitar for 35 years and developed an extraordinary skill on the instrument but still can't play many things that Paul could with the ease that he could. When I just think about the intro of the boxer. My god what a skill. I tried it once for many hours and days to play this intro with the same ease and brilliance that he did and to this day I cannot do it and never met so far a guitarist that could do it. And there are many other examples like the intro of I am a rock. He is and always was a devilishly great guitar player. I really am very very thankful for everything that he composed all those beautiful songs, for his beautiful singing and voice that too was an example for excellent singing for me. Beautiful lyrics and poetry that comes from the soul of this man. I could go on and on. The wonderful and highly special graceland CD that combines westernstyle popmusic with traditional african music. What a milestone in the history of pop music that was. Every single track on that one I love very much. So you see I could go on and on in describing what I love on Paul because I always considered him to be my spiritual friend and soulmate the one half of the outstanding and unique artists Simon and Garfunkel. I know about his weaknesses too like too much of ambition, arrogance, envy just to mention a few. But do I judge Paul because of these? No because he's my friend and I know that I wouldn't be the same artist that I am today without him, because the music that he composed takes much place in my heart and soul because his voice, his lyrics, his melodies, his beautiful sounds that he created with his guitar became part of my soul. So as a fan of both Artie and Paul I beg you please forgive Paul his weaknesses and honour him for his many talents. Thank you.
Old age. It's a crime against humanity. Soon we will have our DNA restored to it's unaltered state and live a thousand years. Our musical geniuses like Simon and old man Garfunklel, Paul McCartney, Roger Hodgson, Gilmore/Waters, Jimmy Page....and many more will rise again and in their new youthfull prime, will slaughter and obliterate the abomination known as hip hop and rap.
I hope the audience realised what they were witnessing here! Just stunning . One of the greatest vocalists of all time.
We don't feel less when we are old. We feel more but hide it better. True art (pun unconscious) lasts forever.
This songs speaks to the innocence, wonder, and hope of youth, no matter what your age may be.
I never get tired of Artie singing that song. At any age.
My favorite song ever that Artie sings. After all these years, still as amazing as ever. You are a miracle Artie. Love you.
Mine too.
THIS is where I fall in love with Art Garfunkel. Right here.
Truly bravissimo! It had been 50 years since Art first sang this song and he did an incredible job. Still has that range after all these decades.
Unbelievable! Amazing to think his voice retained all its qualities for this many years
After all these years, Art Garfunkel can still bring tears to my eyes with favorite song. Love him.
You still got it Artie. I play that song every night at bedtime. You will always be my love.
My favorite male vocalist. 75 years old and still sounds good. Incredible.
The song of passed love sung by the old man makes me feel alive and happy. Thank you, Art, for all these years... yet to come:-)
OMG at 76 and this is the sound. Everlasting vocals of an angel. Thank you Arty
His voice is as sublime as ever
Surprisingly it hasn't changed after all these years
Let's not overdo it. He sounds good for a guy his age, but compared to 30 years ago?
No comparisons were necessary. To be in the same tent as the great man was enough and he sounded great and also made us laugh with him.
Where has the time gone? Was a boy when I first saw what I thought was an angel singing this song in black and white t.v. with Art, simple guitar and voice of an angel echoing on stage. .
I keep playing this song. The younger version i fell i love with you and the older version i love you more. Please keep singing.
This is just gorgeous. He still has it. Remarkably he is singing the song in it's original key. His voice is more breathy and airy at this point but still delivers. The most beautiful love song ever written and performed.
I think that his more airy breathy voice is better for this song
Simon and Garfunkel are to me both angels. Thank God, he sent them here.
Even as we age - the music never grows old. I'm 64 now - but I remember the first time I ever really took note of "For Emily..." - living at age 19 in northern California, far away from my family. It still grabs me now - as it did then. Truly astounding! Thanks, Art - for everything!
Oh Tom ☺️
Great performance. We all get old but with the same heart. Bravo Art
the same holy bomb of tenderness, this is all mankind needs...

Paul wrote and composed it and played it on guitar. You better honour the other half of simon and garfunkel.
@@peternemeth1777, I like Paul Simone, but he wasn't as strong of a singer as Art Garfunkel. Paul Simone is an arrogant person to me.
He still has such strength in that voice. He is a true artist
Love this x
Angel still with us
after 50 years this song is still incredibly beautiful, and Art Garfunkel sounds the same!!
I like this recording even more because I had previously seen the same song and artist in a 1967 video.

Thanks Artie from Germany!

Art is simply the best!
Music from the happiest time of my life.
Es uno de los temas más lindos de S&G, y a mi juicio Art Garfunkel es el mejor vocalista contemporáneo.

How dynamic still !
Thanks for sharing.
I love him

Beautiful Scorpio dude...
Wow I didnt know Ed Koch could sing like this, awesome.
Can you imagine being able to say “I wrote that” ? All credit to AG, too, for getting up and still being able to knock it out.
No, and Mr Garfunkel couldn’t imagine either considering Paul Simon wrote it.
Paul Simon wrote it.

Great performance but the video is hard to watch as it’s constantly trying to stay in frame

I believe Art Garfunkel requested no recording during this performance.
The side of Ed Koch we never knew.
