Loved the video. And I watch a lot of DIY's. I really like how simple, clean, but instructional it is. And I couldn't stop laughing when I saw the "Please Subscribe" label on your bin! Hope to see more videos. Very well done!!
You are short of being a genius! Very good illustration, I am a visual person, and these illustrated tutorials remain in my memory bank. Thank you, I will subscribe to see what else I can learn from you.
I took a couple of Wooden Banister Rails from the trash in our alley. They have 1" x 1" on each end. I'm going to try this. I need to up pot some broadcast Petunias! And this will be a great space saving tool. Thank you so much!
Or simply do as I have done; Cut a toilet paper roll in half then pack with soil, plant seed. Place around 15 or so in an ice cream bucket and fill with half an inch of water each day. When seeds start to sprout simply push the growing seed into your pot or grow bag. Works every time.
@@thatsnotabadidea6207 Obviously paper towel rolls are the same just longer, I save at least one roll from our foil which is smaller in diameter as a pusher.
I was going to send off to England to buy one I was going to be close to a hundred bucks. Now I'm going to build my own. Thanks for the video! Oh yeah it probably would have taken took 6 months to get it shipped Maybe by next season, forget it.
I have seen a lot of talk of soil blocks and wanted to try it out but they are so expensive. Thank you for providing an easy diy on creating a soil block maker. I imagine watering can break the block apart if the soil consistency isn’t ideal. Would you mind sharing your soil mix recipe please?
Nice execution but are these blocks permanent? So, would the plants need translplanting to another bigger block or are they permanent in there up to the point of moving them in your garden?
Depends on the plant, but for the most part, we just plant them as is, the newspaper dissolves away and the roots can push through. Or you could take the newspaper off to transplant.
For small seeds do you sow 1 seed per pod? I was holding them between my fingers and at times 2 to 3 seeds ended up in 1 pod. 😬 I left them since i could not see them and covered with soil. About 80% of what I planted has germinated but I am too new at this to tell if 1 or 2 seeds (per pod) germinated. In the case it was the 2 is it OK to leave as? ...lear.ning as I go. 🌱 Any suggestions / tips are much appreciated
Most ppl put 2-3 seeds in a block and once they germinate and grow for a few weeks they choose the strongest one and cut it pull the others out. Other wise they compete and none will be healthy and strong.
Why not just make " meatball" sized blocks by hand and dimple them with your pinky? No materials but you and soil. Make them small enough to fit inside paper toilet roll holders cut to 1-2".
This is the easiest DIY soil block maker that I have seen so far.
Excellent idea and very simply presented. And I love your well organized bin system, too! 👍
Thanks. It looks organized on camera at least😏
I love this system and your videos are short and to the point. Please make more videos.
I'm planning too! Got a few good ideas cooking right now. Thanks for watching.
Omg,,,I am so trying this. I am a 70 year old backyard gardener, so didn't want to spend a lot on investment of soil blocking.
wooow this is a great idea!!!
TIAGI !!!!!

Best DIY on this I've seen yet.

That works too. You just gotta remember to save all your TP tubes!

Genius idea with the nail and bead!

Glad I could save you some money! And time.
Who knew the old push pop icecreams were potential soil block makers? LOL! Love this idea and have all the exact materials! Yay! Thank you!
I knew this seemed familiar! that's pretty funny.
And you just saved me $20. Thank you
thankyou for sharing going to make one in the next few days.....
You're welcome. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for educating me.
Always a pleasure.
Love the idea and your creativity!
Excellent idea 👍
Thanks!
Thanks for a great video!
Great idea, very informative. 👍
Thanks
Isn't the benefit of soil blocking to allow roots to die off as they reach oxygen to create stronger root ball.. meaning why wrap in newspaper?
this is genius !! thank you
You are very welcome.
Thank you so much for this!!
You're welcome.
Genius..... simple.....
Thanks.
This is brilliant
that was a cool idea
Glad you think so!

1:38 I love your subliminal messaging!
Nice
Brilliant....
Wow, so simple and easy :)
Thanks! The hardest part is getting newspaper these days. LOL

I don't really have a soil recipe. I just use potting soil. However the newspaper keeps it all together. And can just be planted in the ground.
very clever
Thanks
AWESOME!
Love this!!!
Say, that really is not a bad idea at all!
🙂
I like that.
When you placed it in the news paper cup, it stopped being a soul block.
Genius
Thank you.
mantap bro...
Brilliant, you don't even need the paper
Hi there.. what if i use some small plastic bottles(200ml-ish) for seedlings do i need to out some holes under it?
Got a new sub... Keep it up 💪👍👌
I would punch a small hole or 2 in the bottom so water can't just collect at the bottom.
PS thanks for subscribing!
Thanks a lot.. and im just using sprayer to water it hehe

Cheap and practical
Nice
Thanks

Ducking genius....
Did the end just stay folded after putting the soil in the paper?
Yes, for the most part. And once you set them down the weight seems to hold it together.
do you water from the bottom as the seedlings are growing?
That would work, but we tend to just mist them.
What is TNABI?
You dont really need the newspaper if you get the soil right
That's not a bad idea
Hello there! Great video. I like the pleas subscribe! So I did!
Thanks

Et kalah sama petani kampung ribet bikinnya
Yeah but so much work. Just buy a soil blocker from someone like Johnny's seeds, made out of metal and will last a lifetime!
