    I'm in agreement with your definition. When I tell Business I'm putting together a Business Glossary, they often hand me a Data Dictionary. Data Dictionaries are what Technical Staff should have Business has Business Glossary. They use them interchangeably.

      I know. That's why we need to keep on getting the message out there as there's a lot of confusion. What bothers me is when seasoned data governance professionals get it mixed up as well. But in the end, if they want to call it by another name, so be it, just make sure that it's clear to both parties what it is that they are asking and talking about.

    Ok, thank you for sharing your knowledge. DM community needs more like your material, and many well-known names in this space demand a high price for teaching those stuff.
    I've been straggling since January just to understand those terms, please in one article can you tell, What is the relation between metadata, reference data, Master data, data dictionary, and data glossary). another question is data dictionary = metadata? this question has been bothering me for months, can't find an answer.

    this is very invigorating content. there really is not much out there as far as defining what a business glossary is, hot ouse tools like collibra, and so forth. do you see a future in this content to grow? Or is this niche just too small and already been tapped out by resources such as yours and the vendors. I have noticed a lot of vendor materials are not that intuitive which is surprising to me.

      I agree with you. That’s why I started creating this content as I feel there are a lot of misconceptions or confusing info provided by some vendors (not all).
      I think this is a topic that’s seeing some growth as more companies start realizing the pain of not having such a tool/artifact/solution in place.

    There is what a data gov person will consider to be a Business glossary, then there is what IT Executive and Business will consider. 7 out of 10 will think that whatever is currently in place to be "A" business glossary.

      That's true Michael. That's why I had to put together a good business case and presentation to convince management that more is needed. We then ended up winning an award for it and it's something that's used on a daily basis by Business and IT alike.

    Hello, I was wondering if there is any way to limit access to users when it comes to updating a status in glossary.
    for example, If a term has been approved; user should not be allowed to change that status.
    And also can you set up a an automated email, notification or a reminder that get sent out to specific users if the term is in alert.

      @LightsOnData  2 года назад +1

      Yes, absolutely. I'm sure it depends on the tool, but I believe most vendors offer the option to have different roles with different access rights.
