I was honestly entertained by John Oliver's campaign for a bird I didn't know anything about. I can tell you all about game birds near my home, but I was honestly excited to learn something new. 🌿 Hello! John Oliver has spoken often of his hobby of bird watching. He has also spoken of the frayed nerves the entire world is feeling & the isolation which is at pandemic levels here in the USA. That John found a way to bring fun & awareness to these beleaguered birds & address the latter is lovely. I couldn't donate much but I'm hoping this brought in donations that will help on wildlife preservation. That this old Crone participated in anything in New Zealand is a wonderful gift. I'm delighted. I researched all the birds & had great fun. I'm reminded of the beauty there is in this world which is a drastic switch from staring all day, grief stricken, fear filled & horrified at the news. Hoping New Zealanders aren't salty at this. The Kiwi/ silver fern have held proud of place for two centuries now but awareness hasn't increased significantly and kiwis are still on the cusp of extinction. At approximately a population of 1000 the Puteketeke these eccentric looking birds are regal. They deserve a place in the sun. They will deserve their crown.

It's taken years of hard work. mostly by volunteers, to hold extinctions at bay since John Key forced them to prioritise tourism over pest control and species conservation. A majority of the world already knows (albeit minimal knowledge) about the Kiwi bird. No one knew of the Puteketeke bird before John Olivers campaign.
