I love the idea of harvesting from the sea. Non-commercial, just taking enough for you and your family, fresh, healthy food that simply cannot beat for taste! Plus, it must be an absolute blast being out in such beautiful surroundings, feeding your family, and saving on gym membership! Living the dream.
I think I need to start taking some catch home with me matey! I got tucked into a few Gilthead bream I had on the kayak that was really good fun. I think il treat myself to a bass next time ! thanks for checking out this video bud !
Hi matey thanks for watching. You’ll be able to catch sandeels using something called a Sabiki rig. Its pretty much the same as feathers used use for the mackerel but they are smaller fishing them usually around some sandbanks you’re likely to catch them if they are there!
An 8' trace and a one or two ounce ball weight loaded with the live sand eel you caught might have landed you a nice bass fished just off the bottom, and use a bait runner reel. I think your pots are good for prawns if you put smaller mesh around them but as for crab and lobster, they can reach in and get at your bait without getting right into the pot, hence the bait half hanging out and escape made easy. They are not quite big enough. Maybe also a bit more weight added, such as old sash weights to stop them being pulled along by stronger tides. Homemade long tubular ones collapsable would be better where they have to get right in to reach the bait. Once all the way in, there's no way out. Love your rig, ideal for stealthy fishing in amongst otherwise impossible to get to places. Keep it up, good content and quality well done.
thanks buddy it’s much appreciated. yeah your right on the sandeel front but I intend to keep them for a trip out to target rays later in the year hopefully. I might make some modifications in that case perhaps have the bait vertical in the center I think that way they’d have to go all the way in.. I think your right they grabbed the bait out from the pot.. i guess I could also seal up one of the enterances put the bait closer to that one then they would have to go right in. il try a different spot next time.. perhaps spider crab of something. iv ordered a few more of the pots too and was thinking of putting a top entrance in and sealing the rest to try for the spiders. hopefully another video soon buddy. thanks again for watching
Hi buddy I'm glad you enjoyed the video. the crate itself is just a cool box I ordered from amazon. I plastered it in fishing stickers that i had left laying around just to make it look less plain. I believe it was around £40. thanks again for watching its much appreciated!
Hi buddy. to be honest I have no idea they were off cuts I was given. I think they were 6mm chain though. il find out and let you know if you like… thanks for watching the video 😀
yeah buddy lobsters and crabs I had caught using these. I haven’t had eels caught in them just yet but I think they’d definitely work. Unsure about octopus as they are a pretty rare catch here. I will perhaps try some cuttle fish traps this year though buddy.
you should defiantly check these pots out bud.. they are really light so I added extra weight to them. after using them the first time i also sealed off 2 of the 3 entrance holes which helped with the catch rate. if i et some free time i will do a quick video on the pots and how i have them set up.

Hello matey The dive reel I use to drop it down I believe it’s filled with 4mm rope.. il have to double check buddy. As for the rope that makes up the trap I’m really not sure to be honest perhaps 3-5mm.. il try and find out for you !
I knew they did them but thought the ones they did were the cheap Chinese ones turns out they actually have good ones available wish I’d tried this sooner

Hi, did you have to pay extra for the postage, as says doesn't post to Jersey on eBay for the pots? Cheers.
Hi Dave yes when you place the order you will receive a message on your eBay account from the seller with the extra charge and PayPal details.
@@FISHISLANDTV great, cheers. Will give one of those a bash.
best of luck buddy
You get lobsters, edible crabs and octopus/eels with these pots?
yeah buddy lobsters and crabs I had caught using these. I haven’t had eels caught in them just yet but I think they’d definitely work.
Unsure about octopus as they are a pretty rare catch here. I will perhaps try some cuttle fish traps this year though buddy.
@@FISHISLANDTV that sounds good, I got my kayak this year and lobster pots are way to big for it, how much do these pots weigh?
