even if he decided to add the vintage AC/heater system later on he wouldn't need that panel opening anyways since it would sit directly under the dash, at most he'd need to add 2 or 3 holes for the compressor lines and coolant lines. also not having AC in California isn't that bad since it's a dry heat especially in socal, northern central valley that's a different story since 120+ with 0 wind happens far more often.
I'm curious whether Jay has any interests in motorcycles... Also his music taste. Come to think of it Jay looks like the kind of guy you go to say hello to at a party but then you spend the whole night talking up a storm.
Nope. He just did a few minor things to enjoy the car for the time being while he waited to do a full "pro touring" resto-mod. With cars as old as this, there's never a "easy in, easy out" project lol. You're talking about 40 years of use, abuse, bumps, dents, wrinkles, crinkles and rust. Even a typical rebuild like starting from sandblasting or acid dipping the chassis and then moving on to do body repair, replacement and paint and you're easily $20-30k into it by the time the car is ready to have parts installed. By the end of it, I'm sure Jay will have about $80k+ into the build of the car by the time its finished to the point he can enjoy the car.
Jay, I'm stoked that you're doing this right. Soo many people just hack these cars together and it's a shame. I was honestly impressed to see that drip edge not rotted away and the same with the windshield cowl.
I'm so happy for you. You've been hustling so hard for so long, you deserve this. There'll be twists and turns, ups and downs, but it'll be a ride. Enjoy!
I had a 68 with the base 210HP V8, and Jay is doing all the things on this car that I wish I coulda done to mine. It's like live through your car Jay! Thanks for your vids!!!
Been watching your pc videos for years, and even though I have no knowledge of cars, I find myself enjoying this content more than anything on RUclips lately 👍 Really makes me want to restore a classic myself! Keep it up, it's going to look sick when you are done! 😎🥃
I've been watching your computer channel for a long time, this channel was just suggested to me tonight and it's killer (binged all the 67 Camaro episodes tonight after work). I have a 67 that I've owned for 25 years... its nowhere near as nice as yours though. My son and I just started working on it this past summer (it's been parked since around 2000). Been fun to be a part of your journey with the car, looking forward to seeing all the progress yet to come.
I will admit i’ve learned more about cars in these videos than I have learned how to solve a math problem the longest way possible. Honestly Jay would kick ass a shop/tech teacher.
I have followed your other channel for years and had no idea about this channel or that you own a 67 until I entered your GPU competition, I knew about your white Camaro. So far I'm liking this channel more than your other one as I love late 60s Camaros, I'm looking forward to watching this build!
For people who don't know, it's easier to warp the panels with a coarse abrasive so in most cases it's easier to deal with those areas another way and not use media blasting.
Jay been a fan a long time. Just took delivery of a 2021 Audi TT RS. I plan on going full bolt on minus turbo. I've got a friend in Vegas I may be visiting this summer. Maybe we can hit a track day. Pics soon.
Killin' it Jay. Looks like it's going to be perfect. Had a big block charger back in the day, really making me miss it. I can definitely see a dumb purchase in my future. HAHA
I dont know if anyone has mentioned it or caught it, but your driver side floorpan has been replaced at some point as well. There was no seam on the tunnel down the length of it to where the seat mounting holes are. The floor pans were one whole piece from the factory.
I was right about the quarters. Wrong about tail panel and deck filler panel tho. Really didn’t expect the dash lol. But all looks fixable. Glad you’re doing it right!
Jay, I'd love to see a vid discussing the problems and headaches of getting sponsors for this project , from your perspective not ours. Getting money and support vs the freedom and simplicity to just do your own thing your own way, or trying to find a balance.
I came very close to purchasing a 1980 Trans Am with the same mods in mind that Jay is doing. 4-link, mini tub, front and read suspension, wheels/tires was in the $30,000 range just for parts. That's when I realized I'm too poor to own an old muscle car. I bet he'll have WELL over $100k in this before it's done.
building cars is what my folks do for a living. so ive seen a TON of cars that have been blasted down like this. and yes, outside of the trunk pan, quarter, and the dash sill, this is a pretty solid body.
Hi Jay, I was curious to know what body modifications (if any) you have in the works beyond the mini tubs. I'm not super versed in old muscle but I remember the windshield seal/mounting area being of particular concern over time. I vaguely remember Year One building a replica Camaro/Firebird (maybe the Burt Reynolds Edition?) where they updated certain things like removing the drip rails and integrating a modern flush mount windshield to not only clean up the lines but hopefully improve durability against the elements. Is this something you've looked into or do you intend to maintain a period correct exterior?
:p i actually can't wait to see it with all that spotty welding cleaned up... don't get me wrong it looks strong hold but really gobed on..... i don't know a lot about cars but iv been slowly self learning off the internet how to do small welding here and there, mainly wanted to learn for 4 wheeler frame a while back ^^ and a smooth weld really makes a difference cosmetic wise. O.o i'm still not great at welding btw but it is a learning process and its kinda relaxing.
Oh jeez I just bought a 67 camaro in austraila .. looks strikingly similar . But at least watching all this is giving me some great knowlege on what to expect .. I'm not doing a full mod up .. Just a restore back to original . Fingers crossed..
Curious as to what made you choose a 4 link setup instead of a torque arm? Not saying one is better than the other, just curious to see why you picked what you did. I'm in the process of rebuilding a 1970 Camaro and the amount of aftermarket suspension choices is insane lol
I candy root beer would look great on this car. With gloss blacked out grill and emblems. With minimalistic clean lines. A nice set of chrome or black 20s in the rear and 18s in the front.
I just watched this video and the first one after you got the car in reverse order, and I think you were much more optimistic about what you might find hiding underneath the paint in the earlier one...
Glad to see that you have a decent foundation to work on. Up where I live in the north these cars are about as solid as tinfoil. I look forward to see the progression of this resto-mod. I love a good resto-mod.
Glad to see that you went down to bare metal; that's the way to do it if you're able. Reconsider the no A/C thing though because it is a creature comfort that you will regret not having and it will be one more excuse not to enjoy the car to the fullest and to hop into it every chance you get.
Not that bad rust wise, more concerned about previous repairs, should be not more than a week or 2s worth of metalwork to get it looking good as new! I know even though you're in CA and its always nice and sunny, but waxoil the crap out of it. I would love to take on a restomod of a 60s mustang and go balls to the wall with full IRS and just refinements of how far the tech has come since the 60's. Looking forward to see which direction you go with this!
Was thinking I'm hoping to see a update video and sure enough saw it there!! Yea not horrible but definitely not professional upkeep done in previous ownership(s)
Looks quite decent and manageable :) We decided to cut a '76 Fiat apart and throw it away last year, because the whole car looked like the window cowl on the Camaro after sandblasting... looked kind of okay before blasting :S
Loving this series mate....though no AC, that’s brave where you are
this will be a drag car, so no need for an AC
@@skullcrusher4307 what he was saying earlier on In the build he wants it to be a run around as well
@@SJW82 tbh it’ll probably be more of an occasional driver can’t imagine risking that much hard work every day
Yeah being in California having AC would be a must. Even for a weekend car.
even if he decided to add the vintage AC/heater system later on he wouldn't need that panel opening anyways since it would sit directly under the dash, at most he'd need to add 2 or 3 holes for the compressor lines and coolant lines. also not having AC in California isn't that bad since it's a dry heat especially in socal, northern central valley that's a different story since 120+ with 0 wind happens far more often.
Just started helping my 70 year old father restore his 69 z28, that he has had since he was 19. Been awesome to follow your project.
Glad you didn't end the video halfway like that haha I was about to be mad
I love that when each video is released, the car is in more pieces than the video before! Love the content Jay! really enjoying it :D
thats a restoration for ya xD

Jays a Pink Floyd fan...........I mean who isnt?
Wasn't this supposed to be an easy in easy out, some upgrades and that's it? Now it's going full "post malone build", hope you have fun Jay ;)
Nope, he said when he got it he would do a couple thing to hold him over till next year and then he would do a full restoration
There's no such thing as "easy in, easy out" when dealing with a classic car no matter how hard you try to make it that way haha
Nope. He just did a few minor things to enjoy the car for the time being while he waited to do a full "pro touring" resto-mod.

That is not how car projects work lol
Honestly, I was just listening to Muse blasting on the shop 🤣 I'll love to see this car finished one day. Jay has been putting a lot of love into it!
Very happy to hear MUSE in the background ;)

Wait what... JayZ has a car channel? And is restoring a first gen Camaro? This is awesome!
Thanks for the update. I'm not much of a car guy myself but I like following this project.
By far my favorite content creator Jay. Computers and fast F bodies are my passion aswell.
This series has inspired me to begin work on my dream car. A Camaro IROC-Z
This is way better than my 69 I bought to restore. Nice find man.

does the rust make the car rot ? this is really interesting
I'd be buying an Art Morrison chassis with IRS for it, especially if you're planning on spending much time at the track.
when you finally get it done, you should share what you have in it/would have had in the restore without the holley sponsored parts.
