The best working-from-home music. It doesn’t repeat, so it doesn’t get distracting patterns and my mind doesn’t wander while I work . . . as much. Plus it feels like I’m part of a futuristic, moody RPG 😄.
I'll admit, I didn't expect I'd be listening to the whole two hours when I started, but now that I'm halfway thru I am totally into it. I can see (uh, hear) what you meant about long-form slow changes in your companion video about this generative piece, it definitely makes all the difference.
damn if you ever find another one of these ambient patches, please create more of these videos. been listening to this for quite a while now and would love more
there's another musician I discovered, State Azure who does a lot of long format ambient work, with several 3-4 hour pieces of modular generative patches. You might find them someone else to enjoy too!
Okay, can't 100% explain why, but to me this sounds like what would happen if Owl City got together with the guys who made the Portal 2 soundtrack and they collaborated on a score for a surrealist animated indie film about space travel. Excellent work as always Andrew 👍
Just listened to the whole thing while reading Neal Stephenson's new book while at home listening to a rain storm. Absolutely the perfect music for the day!
this is definitely the ‘exploration’ track on a neo-retro 16-bit game. and even still, this is the kind of game you just leave up for hours just to listen to the music
Very nice. This is now one of just three audio tracks I use as background when I need a screensaver. The other two are "Fragments" by State Azure, and a loop I made years ago as the idling engine/heartbeat sound of my personal "tardis". For visuals, I pair it with randomly-selected videos, mostly fractal zooms, like "Sentimental" or "The Hardest Trip" by Maths Town, played at half speed. All audio and video is given randomized starting points and played in loop mode. It's nice background when I'm working, or talking with friends, or just whenever.
I would love a whole album of stuff like this - where each track is like 2 hours long, and each track is a whole world you can just settle into each of these worlds for long sessions. Modular synthesis and generative music is such gorgeous alchemy.
It's auto generated so I'm pretty sure there's nothing Andrew can help you with. Only, like, tell you a scale which it was set to play but you can figure out this much yourself
I really wanted to use this for sleep, and the parts where the lead ducks out or is slower and quieter are perfect for that. Those whooshy noises with the reverb raindrops etc are excellent. Unfortunately the lead is so bright, forward in the mix, and interesting (what notes will it play next? etc), that as soon as I’m drifting off in the in between sections, the lead comes back in and wakes me up. I noticed all the other comments talked about working or reading too, rather than sleep. I absolutely adore stuff like this to sleep to, and some of the other artists say some very strange things about aliens etc, so I’d much rather support more sensible people like you. But sadly I can’t use this as it is, I’ve been laying here for 50 minutes when I’m typically put out within 10. If it were massively busier I’d say this track is just not for that, but the sections between leads are absolutely perfect and start sending me off within seconds. Plus it’s in the title! I know the instinct is to put some generative melody to front the pads for completeness’ sake, or perhaps just your own interest while tweaking, but I wonder if next time you’re doing a patch like this you’d consider leaving out the lead, or at least ducking it plus a LPF? I know that’s quite a big ask, though.
Though I will add this was very nice to listen to once I was awake. The extra added interest I complained about for sleep definitely helps it not be monotonous. Which is a lot more important when you’re conscious for all of it!
Thank you for sharing the whole 2 hour recording. It's cool to see what is possible and be a source of inspiration to someone like myself who's a newer creative.
I love it. Fun fact, It really reminds me of the atmospheric black metal band Mare Cognitum, especially the song Weaving the Thread of Transcendence from their album Phobos Monolith.
Just to say I absolutely love what you've created. The Ableton tips from the video are super helpful and I'm definitely inspired to try some of my own creating! Thank you
Thank you so much, this music make me so relax. This is the way i like to play, i am just an beginner on music playing, a long road to learn to make something like this.. all to make my own video game music. You inspire me. Thank you❤🎉🎉
This is beautiful... A Livestream of one of your sessions leading up to something like this would be amazing. Even if it's just you not talking to chat while you zone into your creation. Thanks for posting.
I'm gobsmacked by the capacity of your electrical grid, lol. In our flat we can't turn on the fan and the vacuum cleaner at the same time, lol. And this is really beautiful!
i love the bubbly sounds at 1:57:24 what would they be called/described as? I am curious if I could reproduce similar sounds in a software like ableton?
Just came back to say this is great background noise when I'm working or in a Discord call, it's so soothing, kinda repetitive but always a little different. Thank you for letting us listen to your synth for 2 two hours lol EDIT: Gotta ask though, why is the DistroKid version cut down to 45? 🤔
@@suturesound A true thank you, Andrew. You've opened up my music and art, and general creative world (which includes things like sound engineering, content creator , video editing, modular synth, Ableton Live, plug-ins, etcetera). A true inspiration to so many - there is nothing like the impact(s) that music can make in the universe. I have been in the music creating world for the majority of my life - playing in bands, going to school for sound engineering, recording all sorts of music. I have finally reached a point in my life where I am about to put together all of my inspirations, and I must say - You have really brought my inspirations into focus. The integrity of your process and everything that you do, may be what is the most inspiring! Also, I am so glad to see that in addition to your incredible artistic world, you have a lovely family (from what I have seen in a few short snippets). You have such a cute baby! Sorry for the ramble - I am always so inspired by your content, and get stoked! All the best - Your friend in music, John. :) P.S. - What a lovely holiday treat this video is!

@@Inyrth no problem - glad you liked them! It's a bit of a different vibe.
@@bricelory9534 very alpha vs influencer situation but yet wonderful suggestion. Will be hard to return from once you see that work.
I think he sculpts them rather than finds them. The difference is the intent with which he turns the knobs and I feel he turns them pretty knowingly
I had to have a really difficult conversation today, and having this on in the background helped a lot, thank you Andrew

Oh hey thanks for reminding me that came out, I had totally forgotten. How'd you like the book?
Coming back over a year later, and still gorgeous to listen to.
I am studying for my final exams and listening to this in the background makes me so relaxed. Love your work man keep it up!
Good luck with your finals!

1:07:28 this small part is so good. actually sounds so alive, almost like an otherworldly creature making its own noises like a bird would.
i agree

Snow drift by state azure is a great one too
This just cured my hangover.
Seriously, this is beyond amazing. It’s like a soul massage, feels like meditation.
It’s the best waking up and scrolling through your notifications and seeing that’s Andrews got a new vid! This one is especially awesome!
It would be a tragic shame to pull this patch down, here’s an easy solution. Just build another jumbo and keep this patch

This music is helping me finish the first draft of my novel right now
Literally opened YT to find some ambient background music to find this posted 13 minutes prior. And it's lovely! Thanks
listening to this during a rainy day in LA 🧘🏻♀️

how many dates would you have to skip, to save enough for a rig like this?
I'd love to know which module is playing that lovely lead in the beginning. Magical stuff Andrew!

I've been loving this. It would be cool to make one that randomly eases into sustained periods of higher/lower energy. For random amounts of time!
Far more variation in this generative music than I'm used to. Good.
Great sleeping music and also great coding music. Thanks Andrew.

Awesome textures and flow, Happy Holidays!

Modular power consumption is commonly overestimated - your vacuum probably uses more than my system :)
I absolutely love this, though the blinking lights are equally impressive. Nice job, Andrew! I have lots to learn.
this is so nice!... would you mind if I use it in the background for Twitch streams?
Lovely sounds, and what a beast of a synth!
Someone has to put this on top of a video about astronomy or a video game about space. Something like that. It fits so well.
