The different toggle power & standby switches were done to meet CSA standards here in Canada. I have a 1979 50W JMP combo with the same switches. IMO, and many vintage Marshall guys, the JMP were the last great sounding/feeling Marshall. Once they came out with the JCM 800's the amp lost a lot of bottom end foresaken for higher gain. JCM sound terribly harsh in the mids & ice picky top end. The character of the distortion on the JCM 800's is not even in the same class as the JMP's or older Marshalls. I've played in a band in the early 80's with a guy who had a new JCM 800 when they came out. Whenever our musician friends would come out to see us they would always go crazy over my big JMP 50 tone saying my band mates JCM 800 sounded thin & harsh. And, it did. I also played many country rock shows plugging into the JMP's low input running it clean with pedals. It was just great. I could play Dwight Yoakam or Diamond Rio country tones right up to Classic Rock.
Hi Scotty that 2203 is a excellant Amp ,because of Canadian Fire codes you have the fuse board ,One thing that I see is the Spring power tube retainers you can get rubber O ring washers so that the retainers isnt right on the glass of the tubes ,I would put Bear Trap retainers in instead and do away with the string retainers ,I think you would really benifit to have the Amp gone over and here are a few Great Amp techs in your area Chris Church (Church Audio) ,Dereck Lawrence (Anodyne Audio Service ),Michael Bonnell (Vintage Tonewheel Restorations ,The reason obviously is to keep the Amp healthy and well worth doing because they are not cheap amps,Jason Tong of (Headfirst Amplification is amazing and builds his own amps and a Master with Marshall amps ,you may want a few Mods done and maybe able to eliminate most of that fuse board but ask one of these guys they were recommended to me ,but its a gem of a Amp bigtime but components go bad and its well worth getting a health report ,Take care brother
Cool, reminds me of a video of a guy who showed the secret to these amps, and was repsonsible for many rock tones in the 90's. Basically a big muff in the low input. ruclips.net/video/SDyz6qsD0kU/видео.htmlsi=cFA5dUestWwpTgVW Nice Godin by the way, their humbuckers are pretty gnarley, i A/B'ed them vs active EMGs once and the EMGs had to go.
Scotty, your ears need a Fryette Power Station, if you want to integrate the 2203 into your set up. Joe Gamble will explain how they work in this vid, ruclips.net/video/gc_vE6OL6Rs/видео.htmlsi=dvNXzmzId9Gl7uCU .

VYNYL SCOTTY😢
Yeah the variations - I had a 1983 2203 Pre JCM 800 so it had no JCM 800 logo, it just had JMP on the front.
