I remember Kyle Mixing and mastering my bands first EP. I was just blown away at what he achieved. It was hands down the best thing that ever happened to my band. Kyle is a legend.
It's pretty basic technique. Reamping. You do not bypass the amp. You send the DI track pre recorded to the amp. This way you can create the sound when mixing with a real amp

Bearing in mind everything makes some difference, big or small, I'd also agree the speakers make a bigger difference than the cabs. I have a Bogner and a Mesa with V30s of the same era and there's as much of a change between different speakers in one cab than between the cabs.
