For the record: the outgoing pm of Finland was pretty lukewarm ti the idea of NATO membership-until Russia invaded Ukraine. The party that is going to be selecting the next pm is even more pro NATO. Finland was not forced or coerced into this-they voluntarily joined to have the added layer of security against Russia.

For the western bankers to invade Finland through Finland it would be a logistics nightmare. Haha, that was also the first thing I thought when the still empty flagpole was shown, before Finland's flag was raised. I'd assume they can add a pole to either end of the circular row, which actually is not closed, there's a big gap. They'd add a new pole to the end closer to where the new flag is going to be (alphabetically) and then move the required amount of old flags toward the end, leaving an empty pole where the new flag will be.

Most of that border goes through uninhabited territory and during the Soviet period, the Russian side was fortified to keep their people from escaping to capitalist Finland.
It's a pretty heavily defended, fortified border as well. The Finns have always punched above their weight. Better to have them as allies than enemies. :)

The amount of soldiers Finland can mobilize is 280k, not 800k as mentioned in the video. Just a small correction. Finland has 900k trained reservists though.
Reservists are there to be mobilize in times of need by the country - so yeah, actually you have an armed force of 1.18 million personnel ready to serve. Awesome.

No, you don't have an underrated military, certainly not by people who know about military matters. They know the full capability of Finland and they have huge respect for them.
It's perfect really, the only other thing I want is for Ukraine to join the alliance after the war is over too. We must help them fight russian occupants first though. When they will deoccupy all their territories and drive russians away - then they will have a real chance to join NATO.
Why Finland joined NATO? 1) The invasion of Ukraine showed, that Russia doesn't respect post-1991 borders, and is ready to wage a genocidal war, even if such an irrational decision is very harmful to Russia itself. 2) The fascist-irredentist rhetoric of returning "old Russian areas" is growing in Russia. Even if Finland isn't currently a target, it might very well become one in the future. Russia is an opportunist predator. Luckily the brave resistance of Ukraine has showed they aren't nearly as strong as many thought. 3) Even if Finland were unallied and Russia and NATO would end up in a conflict, it would not help - the Russian military doctrine states, that the action must always be taken outside of their own borders. So - there are zero reasons for Finns NOT to join NATO.

Russian war doctrine is centered around nuclear warfare. NATO conflict makes it easy for them with any moral doubts as it’s asymmetrical in nature. Russia could have knocked over satellites and nuked Ukraine had it been part of nato
So now that Russia’s Baltic fleet is basically trapped, the pending World War 3 will inevitably be focused in the Pacific Ocean. If Iran doesn’t smarten up, the Indian Ocean could see some action too.

The best thing that Shoigu could do to retaliate against Finland joining NATO is to fall out of a really high window. Putin is the reason for this and he is the best to help with NATO expansion. If Shoigu doesn't like this he should go against Putin and see how that goes for him. Hopefully Sweeden woill get their differences worked out before the end of this year with Turkey and Hungary and they will become a member in 2023. But he is responsible for providing direct aid to Ukraine rather than relying on other countries to end the ongoing conflict. General Jens Stoltenberg attentively listens to Zelensky without sugarcoating the situation. Zelensky desperately needs weapons to end the violent conflict that is taking a toll on both sides. Witnessing a country being destroyed is unbearable because it is not a part of NATO. Such a situation is repugnant.

Finland doesn't really care to ally with anyone. We have so much experience with broken contracts. Our idea is that we alone are so strong that it is pointless for Russia to try to take over Finland. NATO and other major powers are a nice addition to this defense.
I would put it a bit differently. Although I do believe we could defend our own country now that I've seen how Russia is doing against Ukraine. Ukraine has many disadvantages compared to Finland when it comes to location and geography, for most part Finland would be easier to defend and we wouldn't be taken by a surprise. With the amount of assistance Ukraine is getting (while outside of NATO), Finland for sure would be able to defend itself for long term while losing very little important territory. But... it would be even better if our will doesn't get tested like Ukraine. There is no way to fully defend all of our country without having some defeats here and there. Russians are not kind to civilians, we would be far better off Russia never making an attempt.

Then I learned that NATO member, Norway shares a border with Russia. Then same with Lithuania and Poland. So now, during the war, the chance for Finland's and Georgia's NATO membership, and Azerbaijan's if they're interested, are IMO, the most important Countries to join NATO before the war is over. Of course anymore new NATO members is important, my main interest is with new NATO members that would share a border with Russia. But the tensions are the only reason why I'm glad that Russia and Alaska DON'T share a border. Although, in the geographical view, I wish that the Americas and Afro-Eurasia were connected. Because then Europe wouldn't be entirely separate from the U.S. by sea.

Haha, that was also the first thing I thought when the still empty flagpole was shown, before Finland's flag was raised. I'd assume they can add a pole to either end of the circular row, which actually is not closed, there's a big gap. They'd add a new pole to the end closer to where the new flag is going to be (alphabetically) and then move the required amount of old flags toward the end, leaving an empty pole where the new flag will be.

Strategically speaking, this is a game changer. Just look at a map. NATO now has its territory entirely along the border of Northwestern Russia.
Most of that border goes through uninhabited territory and during the Soviet period, the Russian side was fortified to keep their people from escaping to capitalist Finland.
It's a pretty heavily defended, fortified border as well. The Finns have always punched above their weight. Better to have them as allies than enemies. :)

Reservists are there to be mobilize in times of need by the country - so yeah, actually you have an armed force of 1.18 million personnel ready to serve. Awesome.

Why Finland joined NATO? 1) The invasion of Ukraine showed, that Russia doesn't respect post-1991 borders, and is ready to wage a genocidal war, even if such an irrational decision is very harmful to Russia itself. 2) The fascist-irredentist rhetoric of returning "old Russian areas" is growing in Russia. Even if Finland isn't currently a target, it might very well become one in the future. Russia is an opportunist predator. Luckily the brave resistance of Ukraine has showed they aren't nearly as strong as many thought. 3) Even if Finland were unallied and Russia and NATO would end up in a conflict, it would not help - the Russian military doctrine states, that the action must always be taken outside of their own borders. So - there are zero reasons for Finns NOT to join NATO.
Proper cooperation with an immediate neighbour - as complicated as it may be - is much more important than becoming a lickspittle and servant of an overseas power. I have lost all respect for Finland.

The best thing that Shoigu could do to retaliate against Finland joining NATO is to fall out of a really high window. Putin is the reason for this and he is the best to help with NATO expansion. If Shoigu doesn't like this he should go against Putin and see how that goes for him. Hopefully Sweeden woill get their differences worked out before the end of this year with Turkey and Hungary and they will become a member in 2023. Witnessing a country being destroyed is unbearable because it is not a part of NATO. Such a situation is repugnant.

I would put it a bit differently. Although I do believe we could defend our own country now that I've seen how Russia is doing against Ukraine. Ukraine has many disadvantages compared to Finland when it comes to location and geography, for most part Finland would be easier to defend and we wouldn't be taken by a surprise. With the amount of assistance Ukraine is getting (while outside of NATO), Finland for sure would be able to defend itself for long term while losing very little important territory. But... it would be even better if our will doesn't get tested like Ukraine. There is no way to fully defend all of our country without having some defeats here and there. Then Sweden and then hopefully Georgia and Azerbaijan. I saw this coming. I knew that this was the time, the chance for Finland and for any other non-NATO members to join NATO. Knowing that Russia is really struggling in their own war against Ukraine. At that point, Russia can't afford a war against other Countries. I became anxious, because it was like now or never. And I was helpless, because me giving them my word would never make a difference in their decision to consider my idea. And it felt frustrating, because I want NATO to spread further east. Mainly along the Russian border. I was surprised when I first learned years ago that Estonia and Latvia are NATO members. Knowing how threatening Vladimir Putin had become. The threats against Finland, Sweden, Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova joining NATO...gave me a sense of the amount of tension between Russia and NATO members Estonia and Latvia. Then I learned that NATO member, Norway shares a border with Russia. Then same with Lithuania and Poland. So now, during the war, the chance for Finland's and Georgia's NATO membership, and Azerbaijan's if they're interested, are IMO, the most important Countries to join NATO before the war is over. Of course anymore new NATO members is important, my main interest is with new NATO members that would share a border with Russia. But the tensions are the only reason why I'm glad that Russia and Alaska DON'T share a border. Although, in the geographical view, I wish that the Americas and Afro-Eurasia were connected. Because then Europe wouldn't be entirely separate from the U.S. by sea.

@@infinity67833All the other Nordic countries except Sweden are in Nato and they are among the ten happiest countries. They have been in Nato a long time before Finland.
