Usually the only times I've ever got a bad reactions with fragrances is not because the fragrance was bad but because I put on enough to loosen the wallpaper off of the walls

The only time I had a bad reaction to something I was wearing I was at a shopping centre, standing behind a middle aged woman on an escalator when she turned around and said "whatever you are wearing stinks" so I replied back with "so does your breath" and walked past her.

I wore "By the fireplace" to my job on a hot summer day. For those who don't know, its a very warm, spicy fragrance intended for winter and date nights. I tend to work closely with patients, and one of them reeled back and shouted "Jesus why does it smell like marijuana in here?!"
Needless to say I stuck to weather/setting appropriate colognes from then on.
Switch to Hindu Kush and see if people ask what smells like marshmallows.

I once went to the office of course wearing TF tobacco vanille and within 30 seconds after I sat on my chair a male coworker slammed his hand on the desk and yelled who's is wearing vanilla beans to work!!! He was sitting 10 feet away from me. It is kind of a chilly day today, so I think that I will be wearing it today too! 😅

The first time I ever wore Prada Luna Rossa Black, I thought it was the most boring scent ever released by the brand. A woman next to me, whose mother I later found out owned a perfume store, said I smelled like a hotel lobby. Problem is...I agreed.

I love to spray on some nasty Oud fragrance in the middle of July when it’s 110 degrees and go to a bar for happy hour. When my girlfriend shows up she tells me I smell gross but the look on her friends faces when I go to hug them is great. Sometimes they start coughing, one time her friend actually gagged. I have only done this a few times as a joke but it’s a great prank.

I was wearing Valentino Uomo intense, and a colleague came into my office and said: why does it smell lile clean babies here!
Another colleague lost his beans and recognized the scent the second he walked in and started talking about his love for Iris based fragrances and how he had both DHI and Valentino UI. He talked me into buying DHP :)

If you're dressed to the 9's with Uomo Intense you'll probably just smell like money. If you're in some average non-work street clothes, it's probably an odd experience to those nearby.

My worst experience was in line at a theme park. Wearing Dior Homme Cologne on a hot day I thought FOR SURE was safe. However, two ridiculously hot ladies in front of me thought otherwise.... and they had no problem letting everyone in line know their disdain.
Sidenote: the line was an entire hour wait.
Thats a great fragrance, they were just taking out their frustration on you.

There's no way that both had genuine hate for a fragrance that was made for hot weather.
All of these are quality fragrances, but I think we sometimes overestimate the tolerance of fragrance normies to new scents. I usually spray about half the "recommended" amount of a fragrance for precisely this reason-- negative compliments are just a lot weightier than positive ones. Also, just as with positive reactions, a lot of people won't tell you that you reek of perfume. They'll just label you as the too much cologne guy forever in their head. And that single negative impression will steamroll a dozen positive ones. If I get compliments on a fragrance from across a large room, it actually gets the alarm bells going for me. Scent clouds aren't meant to be that big. Honestly, I've gotten great compliments from frags like Dior Home with just one spray. No worries of offending people, but whenever I would go in for a hug or close the frame in a couples dance, my partners would give amazing compliments from a much closer distance. And it makes people actually want to come closer to you and stay there. If she can smell you loud and clear from across the room, what's the enticement to close the distance?
The other thing is we don't pay enough attention to skin chemistry. A "universally loved" frag can become unbearable on the wrong skin. I learned this the hard way with Boss The Scent private accord. That maninka fruit smells like rotting vegetables off my skin, yet amazing off my friend's. Please please never blind buy. Not even "safe" frags. And always test off your skin, getting second opinions when possible.

lol this was hilarious and we need more vids like it. Montale usually makes super loud and unique scents so I can see people being shocked by them. However, that is kind of the point when you get niche stuff. My worst story is some said "the trees are giving off a weird smell today". However, it was me wearing Azzaro Wild Mint. They followed it up by saying "wait, it's you" and proceeding to give me a very disgusting look lol.

My sister told me that she thought prada l'homme smelt like toilet freshener and she didn't like it because it was too aquatic, and then proceeded to say that she liked nautica voyage.

Love your videos! I’m female and wear both male and female fragrances. There’s one perfume that immediately makes me feel nauseous. Guaranteed migraine and it’s an incredibly popular female fragrance…. Poison by Christian Dior! It completely ruins my day when I smell it. It’s one of those fragrances that lingers up your nose for hours afterwards. Absolutely stinks 🤢

Most negative reaction: "Grey Flannel": smells like a wet dog/burnt hair on my skin. "Joop!": Most polarizing...either loved or hated. "CKOne": my daily wear in my 20's, never got a bad reaction, only compliments. Great vid!
I feel ya!! In the early 90's, I was in my early 20's, and I too, was rockin the g flannel.... And my girlfriend at the time, told me to get in the shower!! Bcuz I "STUNK" she said!!! 😅

I've never in my life smelled any fragrance so bad that I would feel the urge to make a degrading comment about it. I'm pretty convinced that in all those situation the problem is not that fragrance is bad, but that person can just feel it, does not matter what it was
CK one will always be available in my collection, so much sentimental value. I remember buying body spray dupe of it on some I dont know random brand which only cost around $3 and I remember buying the real original CK one in my 26. I was soo happy that i wore it everyday cause it remind me of my struggle day saving money for a better life and for that it reminds me to be humble even after now that i can afford luxury niche quality frag and have a stable financial life.

I'll always love that scent. I also have that dupe body spray... it's called U You from the fragrance house of Wal-Mart. 🙂 It's a strong but classic scent. It'll be right next to my $1k+ collection of fragrances.
Before I knew the significance of wearing fragrances for the weather, I wore Fahrenheit to the office IN THE SUMMER. I had 4 meetings and it gave pretty much everyone a headache. No one said anything but I got a lot of stink eye. Safe to say, that will never ever happen again. Lesson learned.

Awesome video. There should be another one or atleast one every few months or a pole. This way it will show the reactions of new and old fragrances and what climate they work or don’t. It will be smarter decision for viewers in deciding the fragrances
I can totally relate to the Black Aoud. I sampled that a couple years ago. Sprayed it on upstairs in the bathroom and my wife texted me from downstairs. “Do you smell that. It smell like an old musty house someone died in.” I texted back that it was me with a smiley face. Never finished the sample even though I loved the way it smelled on me.
If you're talking about Mancera, as a fragrance lover, that's how I feel about all their fragrances.
i wore varvatos dark rebel to work and a manager walked by and asked me if i smelled mustard. i never wore it again. i wasn't particularly fond of it anyway.

It's funny you mention the dreaded STINK BUG. Although, they are usually offended by many scents, maybe the one in the breakroom was different. Here it is the end of summer and time for them to appear in our yards. I actually found your channel, I kid you not, when doing a search for the worst smelling fragrances to combat stink bugs, along with groundhogs. Although I'm one of the few who doesn't care for men's added fragrances, I like how you have described some of the products you've reviewed. After watching some of your videos, I think I'll use your influence and purchase a few for my other half to try. Hey Ash, you might want to do a part 2 to this. Great vid. Here are my worst reactions. Bare in mind these are the words of the offenders , not mine. I was at a restaurant ordering lunch when a curly blonde bumped into me. "You Stink" she exclaimed, then ran off. I was wearing Eucre Noir. The second time it was a Lattafa cologne. Probably an Oud. A bro type asked if I was an Arab, and intoned "that smell". Okay, whatever. Third was at a Goth club. I was wearing London by English Laundry. One punk looking girl said I smelled like a Tr*nny.

My roommate has had extreme reactions whenever I have worn Armani Myrrhe Imperiale (2-3 spritzes from a 2 ml decant on each occasion). He has said he could smell it with his eyes, and taste it. He's so extra, but I'm glad I only had a little decant.

Universally loved can never go wrong unless it’s a skin chemistry issue or (more realistic to happen),
the wearer didn’t take a shower and decided to cover their old skin cells, sweat dried up from sleeping
and musky natural odour, with fragrances. Lastly, the overspray habit/issue. But then again,
the 2nd reason is mostly the cause of terrible smell feedback.

I just got Versace L'homme yesterday. I put it on today to give it a second go and as I was leaving my house I applied an extra panic spray because I had changed shirts since my initial application. Well in my meeting my eyes were watering and I just kept thinking I wonder if everyone secretly hates me right now. Or maybe it's because I layered up my neck and it's just beaming into my face. Well, I do like the scent but I'm looking for a stand out daily signature and overall I'm going to return it but I'm glad I gave it a spin. Maybe in the future I'll buy it again.

It happened to me with Sedley! Everyone told me “you smell like an old man!” I never wear it again… and I’m 49 years old… 🥴
That one is tricky. You'd think it would be fresh/shower gel, but those herbs do give it the old touch I think.

I wore The one a couple of nights ago and got a compliment. I have experienced some people speaking negatively about a scent, and unfortunately have realized that some people make a negative comment just to try and mess with your mind!! Lol
Usually bad reactions are from people who can't stand ANY fragrance. That said I was in a store and I heard an employee say loudly "someone is wearing WAY too much cologne" ... I walked right up to him so it was even stronger and said "that's me" 😁.

I need to watch the sprays on Montal fragrances, my wife and I where at a restaurant I had Intense Cafe on and the couple next to our table ask the server to move tables because of the perfume was to strong and they could taste it….they made sure to be loud enough for us to hear, ooops😂

i put on 5 office sprays layered with 7 Elysium in the car before walking to the bar and 3 seconds later i am on the sidewalk and i hear a lady choking and coughing lol
but when i got to the bar the ppl standing in line behind me complimented the smell. they thought i was wearing chanel bleu.

Interesting one for me was Light Blue Eau Intense. I love the fragrance (I'm even wearing it as I write this). I love how it smells but my brother on the other-hand said it smells horrible. I always was a bit shocked by that as I love it and it seems to be universally loved by many others too.
Surprised at D&G The One EDP as it's probably my second most complimented perfume (especially from women). The first is Sauvage Elixir (That has got me the most from women)

@@fishfan2 I've been in nightclubs before wearing D&G The One and have so many women (especially older women lol) telling me I smell amazing and then following me around all night
I wore Ferrari Scuderia Forte to Walgreens and an older woman who worked there muttered “you stink” when I walked past her. I was clean and showered and just sprayed it in the car (2 sprays) so it was projecting 😂. I have never received a compliment, so that took the cake

I have not tried the Scuderia Forte but both of the Ferrari fragrances I have tried smell absolutely terrible. I'd rather wear Axe body spray.
Oud fragrances are hard to pull off. I wore TF Oud Wood and i got mixed reactions. Only one person likes it and the other 5 said I smelled like I killed an animal. It was 100F in Vegas so I do understand the heat might play a role.
Oud and Cumin, always get the side eye. I stopped wearing any scents with either of those so I don’t have to stress on if I smell like body odor or stank.
a female coworker told me my fragrance was pleasant but too strong and you can smell me miles away. I was wearing Light blue eau intense. I did NOT overspray ( I guess 3 sprays at home) and I got really offended and embarrassed. Since then I haven't worn it in closed areas anymore.
tbf light blue eau intense is quite strong I think, but just put one or two spray on your neck and it should be fine
The only negative reactions I can remember having is wearing sandalwood fragrances. Whenever I was wearing Zara Sandalwood My son told me I smell like pickles lol.

The only fragrance I’ve gotten a negative reaction from was from my ex (when we were still together) I was wearing 212 by Carolina Herrera. Broke my heart cause I love that fragrance so much.

Tbh it's something about Musc Ravageur that I'm not crazy about. I've tried it on skin and test strips just to confirm that I don't like it.
I was shocked when my wife told me I smell like bugs spray... I was wearing Amouage Reflection Man!!! But this didn't change my opinion about that fragrance, this is one of the best scents I had ever.
I personally love CK One it's very clean and I love the citrus in it. It's a very casual everyday scent. Who cares what people say.

My worst experience was when I used Carolina Herrera (original scent) for men, and not only did it make me smell like a horse barn, it caused my skin to turn red.
My worst experience was wearing Rive Gauche. A friend told me it smelled like a chinese restaurant's bathroom soap. He also said that SMW smelled like baby diapers. Yes he's an idiot.

@@244forever Rive Gauche pour homme, or the original? Because if you as a dude are wearing an extremely feminine aldehydic perfume for women, you are BOUND to get some negative reactions. Ajax is probably talking about the original, I hope you are not. The original Rive is super offputting to many people because of the aldehyde top note. The Pour Homme smells absolutely nothing like the ladies' counterpart.

I wore Dior sauvage edp to work and an older woman complained to head office stating she couldn’t breathe around me. HR sent out a mass email to everyone telling everyone to only wear light perfumes.
I picked up a bottle of Mugler Pure wood.... Absolutely love the scent. At the time I was working in a factory doing a delivery job where I'd bring small parts to all the lines. I walked into one of the rooms to drop off their parts and it was full of a bunch of old women. Immediate gagging and overreacting. One lady said it smelled like I laid in a cedar thicket before I came to work. I replied, no hunting season was still 2 months away this is just what a real man smells like.
I kept it in my rotation throughout winter and when summer came I wore it for a month straight and always made sure I stopped in their room! I wore that scent for me, not those old bags

I blind bought Diesel Zero Plus. It smelled powdery to me, but I sprayed some on while going out just to see what would happen. My friend told me that I smelled like powdery baby wipes… Sadly he was right. That was like 8 years ago. Haven’t worn it since.

Montale Black Aoud and Mancera Black To Black, these are the two fragrances that got me the same reaction twice, they asked me "why do you smell like a dead body", which after seeing your video mentioning Black Aoud as a funeral smell, now makes sense to me why they asked the question :D

I get bad reactions with Amouage Interlude but I understand cos it’s a pretty polarizing fragrance DNA. Plus people can’t fathom why a woman would be into that deep Arabian oud. And I remember when I wore Dior Fahrenheit to the hospital, my boss was like ‘Open the windows. Why does it smell like someone is smoking here? How can someone be smoking in a hospital?’. Safe to say I never wore that one to work again 😂
My wife hates everything that isn’t a plain Jane freshie. Anything that comes close to a tobacco scent is a “wet ashtray”. Or “smells like a ton of cigarettes was put out in a half full beer can and it’s sitting there”… So Versace the Dreamer (one of my favs) Insurrection II Wild, Pure Havane… She’s gotten to the point where she’ll assume that what ever new fragrance I’ve gotten has tobacco in it and she’ll swear she smells tobacco. She’s like trying to be preemptively disgusted. No babe, this is Aqua Di Gio, see? It’s a freshie.. Oh yeah that’s nice! Freaking hater..

I remember being told i smelled like an old woman's house, when I was wearing Tom Ford Noir extreme for the first time after just spending more on it than I'd ever spent on a fragrance at the time 😳 hurtful 💔 but it never but me of the fragrance as it's amazing 👏
Whoever told you that must have lost their smell after Covid. Tom Ford Noir extreme is a great complex fragrance and it's my next or second next purchase.

The only truly bad reaction I got was from my colleague on the other side of the cubicle row from me when I had on Al Haramain L’Aventure. My coworker was sneezing and his nose was running most of the day, I asked him could it be what I was wearing, he came over, smelled me, and immediately sneezed. I make sure to not wear it around him. I normally wear Lalique Encre Noire Sport and Dunhill Icon to work and I get no issues, in fact, Icon elicited a compliment from a male coworker. I avoid wearing Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Eau Intense at work, as my boss told me it was too strong, but wearing it out casually, a couple of young women told me I smelled like cucumbers, but liked the smell, so I’ll take that as a compliment. It comes down to which fragrance you wear for the situation, and how many sprays you put on. Even mass appealing fragrances like Bvlgari Man Wood Neroli can be strong if you wear too many sprays under the shirt like I did. Less is more, especially when in a professional environment, and don’t bathe your clothes in fragrances, in case you need to scrub the smell off.
Wore a couple sprays of 18.21 Sweet Tobacco Spirits to a work luncheon last November. Was in line for a dessert and the guy behind me asked if I was wearing Tiger Balm.

Wore like 2.5 sprays of Versace Pour Homme to class the other day. Had a girl say "what smells like green bell peppers in here?" when I sat down next to her. I can't even really see the comparison with green peppers...

Mine was Pheromone for Men (Marilyn Miglin). I loved it, and wore it year around. One summer afternoon, I go into a Subway restaurant for lunch, and while standing in line, the girl behind the counter loudly asks, "Sir, are you wearing ladies perfume?". "No!" I retorted. An old guy in the line started laughing, and saying, "You gotta go home and wash off that perfume!". I still love Pheromone, it has an animalic oakmoss drydown like no other, but the opening is a bit aldehydic. It's similar to the woman's version, in the opening, but it gets dry and bitter quickly.

Best reaction: my neighbour told me my smell made her recall her stay in the carribean island of Martinique, she first thought I smelled like a tropical fruit she couldn't recall and then said "no I know ! you smell like the ocean breeze... I love your perfume ! what is it ?" it was baccarat rouge 540 :) . Worst reaction: at christmas my niece's husband entered the dining room and I was alone there with his son/toddler, he looked for half a second in my direction, frowning, let out a "oumpfff !" and went back out straight away 0_0 . I was wearing (probably too much)"intense café" by Montale hahaha !

I put on Tom Ford Ombre Leather before work, and everyone in my office was upset. My manager said, "Go to the bathroom and try to wash it off. Several people said don't wear that again.

Wearing Pegasus Exclusif, "Does anyone smell like, I don't know, moldy wood or something in this room?" It took me about 20 seconds of looking around puzzled smelling to realize he's talking about me and the Oud Pegasus Exclusif. Still love it though.
My wife said Oud Wood smelled like leftover Chinese food once, so my only negative reactions have been Oud.
I wore supremacy incense one time and someone told Me I smelled like a vape shop and I completely understand! Lol I like it but definitely have to measure amount of sprays. That day I wore it on both inner elbows and both sides of neck and behind the neck = 5 sprays after the gym (6am) and they said this around 1pm so I consider this a win
I was in the grocery store and I was wearing Mancera Red Tobacco... I overheard a lady standing near me tell her son that something smelled awful... and then discretely pointed to me... Lol... her nose must be broken cause Red Tobacco smells amazing
