Lyrics:
Do the laughs die when
One such as I run
And allow myself
Time for own true needs
When convincing me
That you're on my team
May not lie to me
But not mentioning
So sit back and have
An hysterical
Laugh at tiny holes
Buy and trade men's souls
X-ray mind reads plenty
Worth no more than pennies
You, they, it or what
Have been fair, I thought
May you never free
You from you or me
See the more I think
I'm afraid to blink
I don't move an inch
Slowly draining me
Hire a spy and bug me
Pimp your friends for money
Rich and growing sicker
Sell the dead ones quicker

Seattle supergroup playing in Seattle post-Cobain delivering a “fuck you” to industry who exploited, mocked, and commercialized them. Beautiful.
Best supergroup of all time
Definitely one of. Amazing.
Layne's voice here sounds so unique even for him. It's totally fascinating how he gets these very subtle tones to blossom out while singing so powerfully
I saw an interview where Layne was so proud of this record.... he said even more so than any AiC record. What a thing to say, as both bands are killer.
It's a shame that VEVO left out Layne's comments to the crowd after this song, "Well when we left the stage, we all agreed that, in Mike’s words, this is the most awesome fucking crowd. No shit, you guys are fucking…real cool."
I know right? I wish they didn't cut out the in between songs parts.
Hell even spotify left that part in for the live song
@@taxevader7777 ha that's awesome!
Layne may not be here physically but his legend will never die
Undermentioned that Above is by far the best work of Mike McCready's career. You can tell he knows it here he is funkin out to those riffs. And they are funky.
Feel the same. Must’ve been funny going back to PJ after using the sickest guitar solos he’s ever recorded.
@@theDiReW0lf hahahaha
This music is so incredibly fresh! Darn shame we got so little of Mad Season because their sound is as good as any
I feel delighted that there are heaps of people keeping layne alive by listening to the masterpiece he left behind for us ..layne is a ultra fuckin’ legend in my book ॥
Indeed
10 times out of 10
Imprinted on my soul almost 30 years ago
Damn Skippy. Still one of the most powerful vocals if not the most powerful vocals of all time.
Yes!!! Loving it ❤❤❤❤
Absolutely raw masterpiece. 🙏🏻
Oh layne, dear layne....gosh its beyond talent!!!!we miss you
I think Laynes vocal range advanced to a whole new level in this group
It seems like he dialled back the distortion and it allowed him a lot more freedom with his natural range
I think Mad Season is totally where Layne fas found himself in a group. ❣
@@ViAndareKV You should check out his old band Alice In Chains, you might change your mind!!
@@fuckamericanidiot I LOVE Alice... but I do think Layne has found his soul in this project.
Based on the overall vibe, it feels as though Layne enjoyed jamming with McCready more than Cantrell . . . Layne sounds so natural, free, and joyous in Mad Season. Layne, McCready, Baker & Barrett just seems so chill and laid-back.
HOW THE FUCK DID I NEVER ONCE LISTEN TO THIS FUCKING ALBUM/SHOW. HOW??!! Unbelievable. Every goddamn song is an absolute banger.
I was thinking the same thing!
So many great bands are not mainstream. That why they're great. Full artistic control. F the man
Ya I didn’t know of it for a long time either man and I felt the same as you HAH!
Better late than never my friend, welcome we're very happy you made it.
I just love the way layne shakes his head when performing❤❤❤
Same 😍
metaronger 22 Love him forever ❤ He is a legend 🤘🔥
Yeah it’s also fun af to do.
Yeah but when he puts one foot up on the amplifier and leans out over the stage it gets real lol
Layne would stand there and rock back and forth with the mic stand and it still looked badass.
Probably my favorite song on Above. What a great band they were. It's a shame they didn't make more music together. But maybe that's what made it so special. That one moment of time that they came together to capture something brilliant. One of my top 3 albums from that era. Still listen to it all the time.
I agree. I don't see many people say this is their fav.. Love this song
my fav to
preach
Within a year Laynes longtime girlfriend Demri would die along with his will to live.. a year later this would not have happened he didn't want to do the Alice vector Studio had to physically drag his ass there you didn't care about music anymore
Agreed, agreed, agreed, etc....quite a time it was.
The bass and drummer team is off the chart
Everything around it falls perfectly in place
The lead riff lines are also classic
Vocals top of mountain
It is a masterpiece live
And album
Indeed
Layne's fantastic here! The whole band is! Layne will always be one of my all time favorite vocalists. THAT VOICE was a gift and he will always be missed!
The front man for this band will always be a special person, best ever
Rich and growing sicker
Sell the dead ones quicker
My fav lyrics ever, miss you so much layne :(
I'm back for the trillion time hahaha and will always be back, this song will ALWAYS mean so much to me!!! 🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡
Same. I still blast this song almost as much as I make George Floyd jokes.
@theDiReW0lf hahahaha my friend!! you and I both, hence the name.
what a wonderful voice at 2:06 it's just amazing how layne even been sick could still sing like no one else, what a singer... what a lose
RIP John Baker Saunders.
He really is blowing me away here. Wow. RIP
R.I.P
Nope rip layne
agreed, he had his own battle. RIP
@@gsfbffxpdhhdf7043 What's wrong with John Baker Sounders you can choose to appreciate both of them
Goddam the whole band is a masterpiece, but Layne Staley voice and Mike McCready guitar compliment each other soo good, its perfect
Mad Season is pure gold!
2:06 OMG Layne, you were and always will be a GOD. Gave me goosebumps man.
@@wesleybullock814
You must have a lot of friends. 🙄
@@wesleybullock814 If you RESPECTFULLY disagree, why then say "What a fucked up statement you made"? Not very respectful. Did I once say he wasn't a junkie? That's common knowledge. Also, drug addiction is a brain disease, Layne's own mother even mentioned how many times he went to rehab and tried to fight his addiction so instead of putting him down & assuming shit you don't know, at least do your research. RESPECTFULLY OF COURSE. I RESPECTFULLY think he was a vocal god, like it or not that's my opinion.
@@anti-ethniccleansing465 For real 🤣
@@wesleybullock814
Are these supposed “friends“ of yours as much of a pos as you are? Douchebags tend to not be accepted in the social circles of decent folks. I’m not surprised that you have a hard time dealing with reality.
Love Barret on those Drums!!
Yeah for real! Badass drummer! Very underrated!
2:10 that scream ,loud scream incredible Layne we miss you. Scream of the century
Absolutely amazing!!! As always, his live gigs equals or even overcome the studio versions, which are already amazing.
❤.... their talents were So Huge, despite their human failings .... they couldn't help producing brilliance, despite it ALLLL ❤
Listen to those drums. How sweet
, dark and beautiful
He just makes me smile…
🥰Baker 💕 still fangirling after all these years!!!
Rare to have so many live performances kill the studio version but here’s another one!
Kratom connoisseur I don’t think I would say “horrible” as it’s still a killer album. I do dislike the studio version of Long Gone Day but only after hearing the live version.
I’ll always love listening to Layne more live than on studio tracks
Layne's vocal range was always better live than in studio; and even in studio he only needed pro-tools to hide the lisp at the end of life.
I prefer live especially with a voice like his.
@@tamibrandt Layne liked adding multiple track layers on album recordings which is why many of his songs sound better live.
this feels like a magical night!
Layne staley is the the greatest vocalist that ever lived no questions asked
All time greatest vocalist. Lyricist. Ugh. Gone too soon. Senselessly soon. Holy crap this band rocks!
Totally agree. That drummer rocks and is very diverse in style. He’s awesome. He smacks the crap out of those drums. Of course I love layne
So I had ordered the Mad Season 3-CD package and one of the CDs was live at the Moore. This song in particular BLEW MY MIND. Layne's voice sounds absolutely amazing--so strong, even hitting those higher notes--and Mike and Barrett are beasts on their respective instruments (Barrett does NOT get enough love!!). He really gave his all vocally on this one. After months of listening to AIC and MS on CDs/on line/videos, I _still_ have a difficult time memorizing their sometimes convoluted, thoughtful, deep & difficult lyrics. They don't simply roll off the tongue very easily. So aside from his powerful vocals, just the fact that he had all of those songs (both for AIC and MS) committed to memory, and rarely, if ever, tripped up when performing live (aside from the MTV live episode), still continues to astonish me. I can barely get my thoughts out coherently from my brain to my mouth. Those living in Seattle have been so lucky and blessed to be able to see Layne at the Moore fronting *TWO* different bands, and putting on two equally amazing shows. _Salut!_
aaaaaaand we're back!!!!! SELLL THE DEAD ONES QUICKERRRRRRRRRR!!! 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
Found this for the first time a few months ago and now it’s my favorite song of all time
Wait until you listen to the album 😊
3:20 Angel Face... 🙏🙏🙏
Dam this whole show is awesome . Very underrated drummer.
Amazing drummer!
I wanna start playing drums i love the way he plays. Il try to get there heh nope
My son is 15 and drummer at school. Showed him this concert and hes hooked on watching him beat them drums 😍
Yes!! Amazing drummer! I love this song an watch it a lot to see him play
Not as amazing as Dave Grohl I think
Remember what he says rich and growing sicker
Best album ever made in the mid 90s 🙏🏼
Layne, Baker and McCready all at their peak, one of the best songs from Above
and Barret
@@bjmcmahon722 forgot barret on this, he's really solid on the kit
Beautiful Layne 💕
that groove cuts so deep. really regret not going to this show when my buddy told me about it. in ways we were so spoiled back then and didn't even know it
Wow, he sang it even higher on this performance!
Master piece collaboration of GRUNGE legends.
Think was something about the Moore. Two of Laynes best concerts there..
Anything Layne put his lyrics to was just Gold!!!
Sick band and performance. Very underrated.
These guys were awesome. I miss Layne. I was only 10 years old in ‘95.
AkiMega this show happened two days after I was born, really wish I could’ve been blessed to seen em
Amazing song!!💙💖💜
Mad Season rules 🤘🔥❤
I've bought these on VHS and CD. and now have no way to see either.
Everything fucking thing about this song is killer. I love layne so much he's the best vocalist to ever live... there will never be another like him... I go through my phases of songs and things the song on listening to 24/7 right now of laynes!!
My gosh such great stuff - still miss Layne
That drummer for mad season is freaking awesome.i could say that for whole band just awesome.
Timeless album
Music of the Gods.
I love aic but this was my favorite band of all time
Legendary Performance!
Honestly I think this show sounds better than the album
Lol at the saxophone guy helplessly trying to keep up with Barrett Martin on the bongos
Absolutely killing it 🧐
Most magical show ever
Brilliant 👏
R.I.P LAYNE STALEY 🕊️🙏🏾💫
The Last SUPER GROUP wow and more!!!
Wow. I am going to play that again. The drumming is awesome. And of course the singing.
In the face of everything life threw at him Layne was the real fucking deal!!!

I would have loved another Mad Season album with Layne.. Awesome band !
Fantastic record that I probably appreciate more today than when it came out. X'Ray Mind was always my favorite track. Lot going on, but each section is on point. Psychedelic but still rocking. I always thought it was unique.
I always skipped over this song for some reason. Then while smoking a cbd dominate sativa I let the song play. Its been on repeat all day
God level performance rip legend 🙌
Layne's voice gets me every time!!!
That bass sounds amazing ..!
i adore his lovely blonde noodle hair
_ there is one concert that you would like to have seen live in your life???
_ YES. THIS ONE.
@Jerrycantrell018 what do you have in common with mad season? 😆😂😂 apart of being a total scan annoying people?
yes, the whole performance!!!
Bless you All ❤️✊🙏❤️✊
Just perfect.
Mike's running more delay on that 12 string than The Edge (but with 10 times the talent). Excellent.
I was just thinking guitar on this song sounds like the edge or even Billy Duffy on the cults love album.
Awesome! Another mad season. Keep em coming.
Layne looks angelic here

Happy birtday Layne!
Just great music
Slap in the face of music industry “buying and trading men souls” / no wonder they continue not recognizing him properly
🖤Layne
