    I started watching your video, and the idea popped in my mind when you said apply pressure to sides. So I got an old cork from a wine bottle wrapped it with a kitchen towel and stuck inside the light bulb base and twisted it (on an angle). Worked like magic. Thanks for your video.

    Thank you so much! I am a 72 year old widow that had a spotlight over the garage break. I got a pole to remove the bulb but the base broke off, so I had to use the extension ladder after all. I couldn't get it out until I watched your video. After it finally loosened, it came out easily. Thank you so very much!

    This video helped me as I had the exact same situation to deal with. I used the handle end of a screwdriver to turn the socket counterclockwise and then used pliers to actually take it out. Worked very well!

    Thanks so much for this video, and also, all of you commenters for your ideas! I had this happen with one of my recessed kitchen lights, and I was able to get the base out of the socket with a screwdriver and a pair of pliers. I tried the broom handle , a water bottle and an olive oil bottle first, with no luck. However, once I tried the screw driver and pliers, it took me just about 5 minutes to victory! I have some rusty gunk that fell out to clean up, but I am so relieved! Thanks again, everyone.

    It was so simple, and yet, so brilliant!! I need to replace a broken freezer bulb just now...it not only has a canopy around it, it's facing away from me. Just that little bit of pressure inside the metal ring was enough to allow me to remove it. Thanks for your help!!

    In the future just wrap some electrical tape on a screw driver but make sure it’s in the sticky side. Then stick it in and screw it out. You will find that this way is easier and also a lot safer. Someone may have an issue we’re their light switch may not be in the best angle so this would be helpful. Overall great job.

    LOL I found this video after the exact same thing happened to me, witha ceiling fan and bulb. My search criteria was the exact title of this video. Side note, don't use your fingers to reach into the bulb socket. use hemostats or needle nose pliers to grab the edge of the bulb base. Much easer to do! My problem was that the ceramic base was also loose. ugh. Required needle nose, and channel locks simultaneously.

    Just had this problem. To remove the stuck bulb parts, turn off the power to that light, put on rubber gloves, and stick the handle end of an adjustable wrench into the broken socket. It is a perfect fit. Then using the wrench turn the broken socket until it is released from the light fixture.

      @suzisaintjames I thought I was the only person who remembered this! I was scared to suggest it! 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 We have to be careful bc without the disclaimer of safety and making sure to cut the power source off at the breaker or the switch/ plug it would become very dangerous and electrical shock can and will kill you!

    • @suzisaintjames
      @suzisaintjames 4 месяца назад +1

      @@youknowimcute21 , you're right about the disclaimer. I'm just telling what I do... not suggesting that you do the same. Truthfully, I don't turn off the breaker if I'm confident that there's a switch to the fixture and it's turned off. But if you aren't sure turn off the breaker or even all the power to your home to be safe. 💖🌞🌵😷

    You went through WAY too much trouble.
    The simplest and easiest way is to use a wooden broom handle, no electric conduction at all and it's the perfect size for the inside of the socket.
    Stick the broom handle in, twist and voila. Easy.
    *If the bulb has been in place for a looong time or if it's really stuck you can use a rubber glove on the end of the wooden handle to provide extra grip and then you can easily apply the force needed for it to come off.

    Another way I found that worked was putting pliers in the center of the broken bulb and opening the handle of the pliers so that the pliers are applying force on opposite sides of the bulb, then applying force to the left to loosen the bulb from the socket.

  • @BLAZE5417
    @BLAZE5417 7 лет назад +1

    What would cause a light bulb to rust in the socket? I descover this after bulb was stuck. I've experienced/successfully removed stuck bulbs before in other light fixtures, but never as stuck as this was. I actually cover the bell globe with a bag and purposely broke bulb. Now I'm questioning if I should used the fan or light at all. I'm healing from a broken back, needless to say do not move to fast. The stuck bulb situation wore me out. Little more infor... I live in a condo. The ceiling fan w/4 lights is located in my living room above my hospital bed. The room above is a bedroom and above that room is the attic. The attic has never show any signs of water leaks (in 20yrs). The upstairs bathroom is +/-25ft a way. Am I wrong in thinking that water must found the socket & water is what caused the rust? Sorry this long, trying to be exact. Sincerely, thank you for your time.
