I'm not ashamed of liking this movie or soundtrack. As a matter of fact, I think Josie and the Pussycats rock a lot harder than most of today's mainstream artists. :)
My favorite all-girl "bar band" of the late 90s was THE FRIGGS (mostly based in NYC). When I saw the movie, it kinda of reminded me of them, if they'd gotten a big record label contract. Palmyra Delran is still doing FABULOUS stuff, and in addition, is an internet-radio DJ on weekends.
Idk how this movie had such an influence on me. I begged my mom to take guitar lessons so I could learn all the songs. I did. My teacher was so nice and happy. I decided to quit musical theater and go to school for music ed. I’ve been a music teacher for 8 years. I love it so much.
It wasn’t promoted well - it looked like it was gonna be a so-so teenybopper/nostalgia thing, like the Scooby Doo movie with Matthew Lillard, instead of the hilariously insightful pop satire it was. Considering how savage it was towards the whole “star-making” MTV game, ya gotta wonder if Hollywood sorta decided to let it die. In an alternate universe, Kay Hanley won an Oscar for Best Song and the movie spawned a whole extended universe of clever reinventions of Hanna-Barbara properties.
because the movie looks retarded but actually has deep satire and undertones. sucks because it's really a smart movie and the promotions made it look like some typical 90s crap flick.

Brian McKnight - Back at One
I remember seeing this for the second time in theatres on my 11th birthday in 2001. I was the Melody in my BFF trio and we were trying to start our own band, True Lies. It never got off the ground, but I took guitar lessons because of this movie, which in turn led me to joining my junior high's band, which led to me joining my high school's marching band. I even wore my officially-licensed pink leopard cat ear headband to school every single day for two years, which all the cool kids are wearing these days, but back then, it's how my first love Chris started talking to me. It's amazing to look back on this movie, now that I'm 32, and realize just how much of my life it changed singlehandedly. To all my other 90s babies, if you're reading this, I hope all the dreams you had back in 2001 are coming true. Keep rocking, best of luck, and much love. ❤
@empac8631 I thought so! I got made fun of for it quite a bit at the time and eventually the school banned such headwear because of how often the other kids stole them from me. I ended up wearing them in one of the front belt loops of my jeans until I moved on to junior high. It's insane the random things you remember!
Actually, they all had to learn to play their instruments aswell as the songs for the movie. The Director wanted it to be "as real as possible" for the ladies playing their instruments, they also went through vocal training.
Yes they went to band camp and they did really good on the learning to look authentic when playing. Love it. So much better than just completely faking it. However they didn't learn fast enough to actually play so it is dubbed. Kay from Letter to Cleo sings. Still a fantastic song and they did a great job. Even drunk and drug addled Tara Reid did pretty good.
It took SIX whole hours and FIVE long days for (FOUR) all your lies to come undone. And those THREE small words were way too (TWO) late. Can't you see that I'm the ONE... ============ and that my friends is why this song is so catchy...
I watched Josie and the Pussycats as a kid back in the 70’s. Loved them, especially Josie. I have a thing for redheads ❤️. When this movie was first announced, I was excited. I wasn’t expecting it to be so hilarious. Those 3 actresses really brought it together and played their parts well. I was disappointed that Sebastian wasn’t in it.
When I was kid and I first saw this movie, I loved it so much I went and got my hair cut like Josie, But my mom wouldnt let me dye it red. Even though I love my long hair, and short hair usually looks bad on me, Im SO tempted to do it again. And this time I can do the red.
"If I wasn't a key player in this whole conspiracy to brainwash the youth of America with rock music, we could totally date!" Watched This Like A 1,000 Times It Was Me And My Best Friends Fave
Got this movie as part of a three pack from Wal-Mart and it's by far the best of the bunch. I agree that it's humor is lost on some people because they simply won't give it a chance.
I remember watching this. I wanted Josie's CD player but woah, it cost $130 used on Ebay! I sometimes wonder if the movie's popularity caused the price to shoot up. Interestingly it was completely waterproof. That's why it had to weird flaps. They clamp the lid shut so water can't seep in.
It took 6 whole hours 5 long days 4 all your lies to come undone. And those 3 small words, were way 2 late. Cause you can’t see that I’m the 1 Love this movieeeeee as a kid ❤️
I remember watching this in tiny pieces with my sis whenever my mom went out to the store or something. My first PG-13 movie XD my sis was always getting me into trouble 😂
Josie and the Pussycats came out during the hey day of the pop punk era which rode very strong between 1994-2003. But like most other fads, it died sadly.

I get this comment is almost older than me, but this rocks harder than ANY modern music. Especially mainstream music.
Still true in 2023
You are 100 percent correct. Now go buy a B52s album those girls were funny talented and just wonderful.
It's one of the most honest movies about the Record Business ever made.

ICON!
That's awesome honestly
This is such a fun movie with an uplifting, kick-ass soundtrack. How did it ever bomb?!
it bombed?.. 53% on Rotten Tomatoes I guess it did. I always loved it.

Honestly I loved this movie as a kid music but now that I’m 23 and watch it it’s all one big advertisement of movie.
Granted it's messaging smacks you in face with skillet... but the cast had great charisma and energy. It was also hilariously funny.
because the movie looks retarded but actually has deep satire and undertones. sucks because it's really a smart movie and the promotions made it look like some typical 90s crap flick.

it took me 20 years to realize the chorus is a countdown
Holy shit
They did it rather subtle didn’t they?
As a drummer myself I always loved seeing Tara Reid wailing on the drums. She has the cutest smile especially in the opening song.
20 years later and this goes so hard.
I love Rahcel Leigh Cooks hair in this movie!
The soundtrack is really great, too.
She is gorgeous

I'd buy the raw cuts
@@thewolfandbird Rachel can sing. She just doesn't have the right sound or a strong enough voice for the sound they wanted, if I remember correctly.
They all sang backup vocals on most of the songs. They sang on this one.

The 2000s called. They coming back better than ever
I want a Big Mac
but you're a vegetarian...
Very definition of an underrated movie and band, letters to Cleo. With the crap released these days even back door lover would be a top 10 single
I remember seeing this film when it first came out and got my grandfather to purchase me the soundtrack on cassette after the film was over at FYE 😂😂
This tune should have blown up the charts for real, what a kick ass tune with so much energy
the soundtrack apparently did sell pretty well.

You did it?
I did the same thing when I saw this movie. Got the haircut, but couldn’t dye it. Now I have long hair, but it’s red. I love it.
can't believe this comment is 10 years old :']
Wow, that last chorus really hit hard. Great song writing.
2019, I still love this movie and I still love this song.
So much better than the band on "Riverdale"

This to me is a great look at early 2000s fashion, the clothes, hair, and accessories it’s all perfect.
I loved this movie when I was 9 years old and still love it today and I've never stopped loving it.
Wow how did I forget about this song for almost 20 years?
This movie is so underrated!
I still love the songs from this movie. I really wish I had kept the soundtrack :C

Great music, amazing movie! Any movie that makes fun of the culture and the people most likely to be interested in it deserves our respect.
I have never seen this movie or know what it's about, but this song goes so unbelievably hard
I watched the movie maximum 3 times, and I sing this song constantly.

Favorite Guilty pleasure!!! The Current (2020) Best live action portrayal!!!
The early 2000's were the best.
I'm looking to start singing for a band and as I realize I'm serious about it, I think of how Josie and the Pussycats would totally approve
Their music always made me feel better when I was upset or even sad.
