After 7 whole years, I occasionally come back and try to debunk whether this was staged or a legit interview ......
what do u think it was
I think it’s staged... but can’t tell for sure
Haha yeah, I'm back again after watching Wes Barker analyse Jesse's trick. It's funny how she edited this piece and totally gave away how Jesse did it in the post trick camera shot.
I don't know, pretty much everything is staged these days. Jesse's shtick is being awkward and kind of rude and maybe hers is too so it was just two similar schticks colliding. Who knows
That’s an interesting conspiracy theory and now I’m thinking it might be staged
It’s actually edited like it’s staged so that might be something
I do not for a second think it was staged on the part of Eisenberg in the sense it was scripted. There's no real benefit to make himself look like a jerk. On the part of the girl though, she was definitely putting on an act. If you look up other interviews with her around that era her shtick was asking awkward/dumb questions during interviews. However I think he may have legit hurt her feelings. Normally in the interviews she'd do she'd annoy the celebs and they'd just kind of politely roll with it. But Eisenberg pushed back in a way other celebs didn't. I don't think he was trying to be mean, I think he was trying to match her energy because he thought it was banter. Only she could dish it out but not take it so when did that it offended her. That's my take anyway.

Kowalski?
Yeah it's simple. He's gaming her while simultaneously making the interview more entertaining, two birds one stone.
i think it really set him off when she called morgan freeman by his last name you see how he brought that up again and the air after that was off because the interviewer
really did felt the sting from jesse. i think this is bad because jesse could’ve let her redeem herself (but he didn’t by bringing up the morgan freeman thing the second time “don’t talk about him like that again” ) so she just mirrored him, notice how she said “so we could wrap this up” and jesse was shocked and after that it’s just counter attack from both of them.
She thought he had to be nice to her and go along with her stupidity because she’s pretty. He didn’t so she got butthurt vain people do that. It’s so obvious. What did she think he was going to fall at her feet 👎 nope , another theory the calling Morgan freeman is an old surname for freedman who are slave descendants just calling him “FREE MAN “isn’t very cordial either that’s probable what set him off. He mentioned it a couple times made jokes about her knowing him trying to let her know it’s weird because it is she doesn’t know him. She was not promoting the movie properly that’s it. He got annoyed by her. She felt berated. They just didn’t get along well, two very different personalities.
A lot of people think she was in on the joke, but she actually said she felt humiliated after the interview.
That makes it even more Hillarious,

Too big a lacking number of individuals seem to forget that Eisenberg has high functioning ASD. I mean i think it started off bad when all the interviewer had to say was "freeman" for jesse to jump down her throat about it.
Okay here’s my take. This is how men with no charisma or social skills flirt. She took it playfully at first, laughing and playing along but then he crossed the line to plain rude and humiliating and she matched his energy. Very awkward and cringe to watch. He comes across as someone I would hate to be stuck in a lift with
Exactly. This type of guy makes me nervous
So true.
Why assume he’s flirting with a random interviewer? Cuz she’s mildly attractive? Lol she took the carrot top comment as an insult and that’s her problem. She was the rude one telling him they need to “wrap it up” lol that’s super unprofessional. He didn’t do anything wrong. Everything bad about this interview is because of her
I don’t think he knew how he was being perceived. Unless I was good friends with someone I wouldn’t expect to have that kind of insulting back and forth with a stranger. There’s a ton of ways humans subtly communicate through body language, facial expressions and tone of voice we subconsciously pick up on. He clearly didn’t pick up on the fact she started to feel demeaned and because he speaks in a very fast kind of expressionless way among other things, she didn’t pick up on the fact he was joking/being playful/ flirting however you wanna view it. Ultimately he very clearly lacks social skills although he obviously can’t help it. It’s fine if you disagree but that’s my 2 cents
I don't think so. Here's the deal with these interviews: Jesse Eisenberg sits in that chair for like ten hours. No-name after no-name sits across from him for 20 minutes at a time asking him the same questions over and over. He does it, like every other actor does, because doing press for movies is part of their jobs. But he's there to promote the movie. He doesn't want to tack 20 minutes on to a very long day for this self-promoting lightweight.
This woman is totally unprofessional. She doesn't seem to have any idea what she's doing, and thinks that by trying to be cute and flirty, she is doing her job. "Morgy"?! Card tricks?! Come on. She's using the time to put the spotlight on herself, rather than the movie. A good interviewer always focuses on the interview subject, not themselves. It seems pretty apparent that this woman got her job because of her looks, and thinks they excuse her from developing any real skill at her job. I'd be annoyed too if I had to endure that. She's awful.
Both of them were rude at points but regardless this was funny as hell
Jesse wasn't being rude he just uses sarcasm. That girl was incredibly unprofessional
jesse wasn't being rude he just had a witty sense of humor. it only came off as rude because the girl didn't get it and took it too seriously
Well he got angry she said freeman instead of speaking the entire name. So I think he was just butt hurt about that and then she felt insulted cuz he implied she sucked and she was a newb at interviewing. Then she just wanted to run away and he was actually insulting her the rest of the time. Hilarious tho haha >.
N0 Shrapnel never let some pussy disrespect u like dat
He started the rudeness
I feel like at first he wasn't actually being rude and was probably just kidding but she took it to personally. Also this was the weirdest interview just because, from the very beginning there was a weird tension. It was almost like a middle schooler interviewing her ex or something

@@rtbwolf es some women flirt this way but if you think this is flirting you are beyond delusional it is actually laughable. To add to this she literally states how she wants to wrap up the interview I don't know where you or when you saw any flirting here 💀?
@@bqteman0 The only reason you can make that claim is because she explained how she felt. I'll take her word for it as I'm not a mind reader.

This. He meant that she carries around props. She took it the wrong way.
To be fair, I wouldn't blame her for taking it offensively. The way in which he had brought the point up, so abruptly, it seemed pointed. And let's face it, being compared to someone like Carrot Top leaves one to imagine a lot of uncomplimentary associations.
That's just how he talks bro hes not tryna be rude by saying it abruptly. If you watch him in any movie or any other interview you can see that.

People COMPLETELY misunderstood the carrot top comment. He only made the comment when she all of a sudden revealed she brought playing cards. Kind of like when carrot top pulls out props. He wasn't saying she's awful at her job, he's saying she pulls out props all of a sudden like carrot top. She's the one that misunderstood and assumed he was insulting her.
That makes a lot of sense now that I think about it
yes this is what everyone is missing. jesse never said carrot top was the worst, SHE did. he simply meant that like carrot top is the prop comedian, she is the prop interviewer.
Oh shit finally someone explained it. It wasn’t his fault

what's her name?
He wasn't flirting at all. What the hell is wrong with people. Or being an asshole. I'm actually trying to make sense of all the comment section nonsense.
I wouldn't blame him if he was.
Exactly. Interview starts off, she calls Morgan Freeman "Freeman", he playfully makes fun of that fact (because it's an odd thing to do), she does thumb trick, he obliges, she shows writing all over her hand so he asks what that was about and makes a couple more jokes, cards come out, he asks about carrot top (because she brought props), she called carrot top horrible and assumed he was insulting her, she says the crying thing, he tries to joke out of it, then she says she wants to get it over with, he then rightfully lets her know that he is taking time out of his schedule not vice versa, from this point she acts annoying the whole time during the trick, he finishes, she asks for him to say her name, he played along and said one snarky comment at the end. It was all in jest and he had a smile on the whole time. I also think she playfully called him a jerk, but if she was serious then she misread his intentions.
@tommy salami it was a scripted comedy interview, dumbass
The name part was actually from the beginning of the interview which was cut and pasted to the end, so from there is where all the snarkiness started. She just asked him to say her name like she does with all celebrities, cause that's the name of the series, and he was the one to be like, "Oh, I actually wouldn't want to find you...". From there is where all of the teasings began. And I really think it was just all out of flirtation, nothing serious, neither of them took any real offence. Why are people so blind to that? They were all smiles throughout.
@@orbtain no it wasn't, she tweeted she felt humiliated and he kept it going when she tried to say bye

I love that he thought he was doing really well and didn't realize she was uncomfortable.
She said Freeman instead of Morgan Freeman, he found it rude that she would belittle his fellow actor in such a way and so he took offense. Since she showed no consideration to someone he clearly respects and loves, he decided to give her the same treatment. The end.
thats a very simple and frankly wrong statement of the situation.
+ABRACADACTOR hes frustrated that he has to do this interview with this bimbo, who got the job probably because shes the daughter of the ceo. she thinks in the same league as jesse and morgan freeman while she cant remember her questions without her hand. and the kicker to top this whole trainwreck is she tries to intimidate him at the end with him saying her name, he put it right back in her face.
+hellowutlol Take a step into the real world. you properly address someone with a title such as Mr. Freeman if just saying last name. It doesn't matter if he is famous or working class it is a sign of respect especially if theyre a lot older.
+im floop Honestly, the day a journalist/reporter doesn't take notes of their questions (or whatever they're going to say on camera) they are doomed. Do you really think all of those professionals on TV are just 'winging it'? There's a teleprompter in front of most of them, and sometimes just a big piece of cardboard with cues. Really.
Gio Simmer They dont wing it, they memorize it. thats their whole job....ask relevant questions of the topic and get a response. A good host will look proffessional and formal while doing so, and amatuers will look clumsy and out of place. e.g, looking at notes
I thought interviewers were suppose to ask questions about the film and the person they're interviewing, not talk about magic tricks. God, this girl wanted him to scream her name in the camera. In this whole interview, she only asked one question about the film.
you do know the movie "Now You See Me" revolves around magic tricks right?!..... which is why she asked him to do one IDIOT.
destroyapro Yes, I am very aware that Now You See Me is a magic movie. That still doesn't justify her idiotic way of "interviewing" people. The film is still a film, regardless of what genre. If I interview an actor in a horror movie, I'm not going to talk about scary things; I'm going to talk about the actual movie. She only did this ONCE; the rest of her comments were stupid and had no relation to the interview and even the movie (shout out my name? Are you serious?)
She's still a fucking idiot and the worst interviewer in human history
iCoNiC-Gaming Congrats, you would have done the same interview thousands of other interviews that boring reporters will do for the same movie while asking the same exact questions. These actors have to sit here and just do interviews with hack interviewers over and over and over, they like when an interviewer does something different.
Most actors love interviews that are different because they are asked the same questions everyday with the same answers to promote the movie. He was just being a bellend in this interview.

I’m sorry but I burst out laughing when he said “don’t cry now, cry when the interview is over” his comedic delivery and timing is impeccable.

"What if we just broke up"
"I probably wouldn't say anything then"
Jesse iesenberg wins flawless victory fatality
I don't think he was intentionally being rude to the interviewer. Keep in mind that the carrot top joke was supposed to go in another direction. The interviewer believed that he was a terrible comedian, where as Jesse was referencing his habit of bringing props to his shows (like how she brought the questions instead of memorising them). Jesse's anxiety and intelligence can often cause him to make references that might confuse or offend others when he actually has no intentions of offending people in the first place. I noticed the part when he said "I'd rather be alone" the interviewer was offended. I think he was trying to be playful and funny in a sarcastic way, and she just didn't take the hint. It was also probably his attempt at lightening up the already awkward interview. Overall, the interviewer was a bit sensitive when she didn't understand his sarcasm and references, and Jesse could have toned down his snarky responses.
+Sammi Kluber You worded my thoughts better than I could have! Neither one seems to be at faulty. They simply communicate differently and unfortunately, it lead to hurt feelings all around.

Ben Stockdale he's joking, that's the point
Had it been a better joke I would have realised.

Ok, but like she handled that roasting like a boss.
She should be a voice actor, im in love with her voice
This is the weirdest interview I've seen in a while, everyone is emotionally neutral but still tense😂😂 the vibe is "let's see who can be the most catty but while still being civil bc we have to be professionals"

***** I didnt say she was rude. Im saying she doesnt deserve the job
She is cute. She deserves her job.
Agreed, but Jesse Eisenberg is a cnut despite the fact.
+mehh No she does not
She tells him he has fat thumbs. Then, she tries to hurry him up as if he is the one wasting *her* time, as if she has tons of other people waiting to interview her afterward... If this wasn't a some sort of sketch where they were both trying to be playful, she's just an awful interviewer, she's unprofessional, and she definitely isn't quick/intelligent enough to be trying to pull off whatever she tried to here. I could do a better job- easily.
Girl, you need to thank Eisenberg. This interview is the only thing you're known for xD

I genuinely feel bad for his thumb. Imagine his thumb was a person, then people will agree that the interviewer was being rude. You can't just insult someone's thumb like that. What did the thumb do to you? #thumblivesmatter
I actually like both of them more after this interview.
Same here is that weird? lol

Yea, I honestly don't know if they were actually fighting or just messing around, maybe I'm just used to people's faces showing their emotion more... They seemed fine EVERYONE seems to believe it was like low key tension though
😂😂 I love that he’s actually super witty and talks super fast in real life
Jesse eisenburgs jittery/ sarcastic vibes totally makes this iconic interview what it is. Why people take it for so much more than that in these comments is silly to me
Because jokes are only funny if your audience can actually laugh at them, and his sarcastic "vibes" were outright rude to the interviewer.
@@erikeriks Playful jabs are going to make people sad online and I’m oh so sure he took this into account before delivering them but when even people on set are cackling up in the distance, well I’d say it’s working
@@mobbarley3599 But Erik was talking about the audience, now suddenly you're turning it to be about people "online".. that's the intended audience. The people on set are probably his handlers, ass kissers, production movie reps, agent(s), etc... just kissing his ass laughing away... b/c he's not that funny, but because he's clearly well connected in Hollywood, he has a career.
@@CinHalCedHerChance I argued Jesse Eisenberg’s jokes weren’t at all intended to make folks at home who aren’t in the moment happy, I tried going “I’m oh so sure he took this into account” in order to convey some sarcasm of my own. I should’ve been more concise there. I’m still not sure exactly what you meant by the first bit, but your guess on who exactly is standing on that interview set is completely subjective. It’s no question though, that more people on RUclips find this interview more entertaining than dull.
@@mobbarley3599 You'd have to be on a film promotion to know who's there and it's all studio handlers, along with the actor's personal assistants. They either go from room to room in a hotel and do the interviews OR they have it set up so the person interviewing the actor comes into the room and is given an allotted time to ask their questions about the movie.
I was at one once and it was kinda cool to see, but insane how chaotic and organized it was.
“The thing is I don’t actually want to find you I wanted to stay alone”
True words from a true man
Man I would want him as a friend
Me too lol
Gabriel What is saecasm?
ew why
This is one of those situations where a friendly conversation is completely interrupted because one person says something that offends the other a little too much...so it is definitely awkward to watch this. He almost seemed too comfortable with her, like he might joke with his friends that way, but she wanted that interview over.
Comfortable, No
Mocking Her? Yes
After the interview she went out from behind the curtain to ask him a another question about where he grew up and he said "you're still here?"
Right, she just wasn't getting his humor, and he can sometimes come across as arrogant, when he is just trying to make a witty comment. Just misunderstandings...
Yeah he was most likely going to make a joke about carrot top bringing props to interviews not because he is horrible. She took it the wrong way and it went downhill from there.
Brett C the irony of it all is in the fact that how she took his comment is what made her beliefs look true. She took the comment the wrong way as if he was calling her a bad interviewer and, well, she got offended and did exactly what a horrible interviewer does. Good on him for keeping it as professional as he did!

Mike V Way to go off the deep end their bud. It was a joke. Not a dick. You don’t have to take it so hard...
Although Mike V comes off as a triggered SJW in some areas of his argument he's actually right. Men (& women too) need to learn the signs of taking shots at someone as a way to flirt and just taking shots because you genuinely don't like someone. From Jesse's mbti the digs he was taking at this woman were mutual and not sexual. He genuinely doesn't like her or the interview. There is nothing remotely flirty in anything hes saying. Also his expression/demeanour/emotions would convey any sexual interest too.

he could be a little nicer about it though. no need to be a complete jerk.
She actually got it pretty good tho
I'm not 100% sure what the chemistry is here.
I think he is actually roasting her intentionally, and she's just very good at hiding the fact that she realizes she's being roasted, and plays it off as teasing.
Which he's clearly not.
Got to give it to her, she handled that very well.
I just see two people getting offended at eachothers banter (the snowflake generation)
I think "Jesse" (who in their right mind would call a white boy Jesse ffs?), though, was really annoyed at her saying "Freeman". When I think she was trying to joke or something...she was being a giggly barbiegirl whilst he was trying to be a smart prick.
