  • Guilloché is a decorative technique in which a very precise, intricate and
repetitive pattern is mechanically engraved into an underlying material via
engine turning, which uses a machine of the same name, also called a rose
    engine lathe.
Today, only a handful of specialist guillocheur, outside of Switzerland,
make the watch dials following the traditional methods on vintage hand
operated rose-engines. Joshua Shapiro from California is one of those
    artisans.

Interesting presentation about this talented young man. Very nice watch face and somewhat reminded me of one of George Daniel’s.

Joshua's work is amazing. It is great to see someone making the effort to master and revive old techniques and take them as the foundation for innovation. Would love to see a similar interview with someone doing Grand Feu enamelling today!?

Interesting and good for him. Watches are very reminiscent of George Daniels and Roger Smith.

Great work . I've seen guilloche work , as an ex jeweller and tool and die maker.
Its like those beautiful machines talk to me. I wish some day can see one and working with them.
Its very satisfying touch to it .
    Thx for sharing.

Wonderful interview, I enjoyed every bit of it. Josh's advice at the end is perfect. That can apply to any craft one is doing. Finish what you start, set goals and achieve it. Don't get discouraged along the journey. Thank you for doing this video. I am now a subscriber looking forward to another interview.

Nice to see this effort in work have a person willing to ask him questions and he is willing to share, we found Joshua first from a video on Horological Society of New York. Thank you, and oh hey he is located only a few hours into or towards Los Angeles from us, that too is a good thing to learn Lance & Patrick.
