Actually Ex was a great mage but he traded his potential for his illusion. The contract was that he will not be able to use advanced magic but his illusion has a skill that can extend magics. After the contract Ex made, he never went to his master again because he didn't follow his master's warning to never make a contract with the guide (demon).
