  • Here's an F1 onboard lap at the old Silverstone circuit, the 1988 layout. The circuit has underwent a number of layout changes over its long history. Which one is your favourite? Let me know and I'll make sure I do an onboard lap on that one as well!
    This Formula 1 hotlap is driven in Assetto Corsa with Lando Norris using the F1 2023 McLaren MCL60.

    - How bumpy is this track ?
    - Yes

    Wow, super fast! I remember that Keke Rosberg broke the average speed record with a Williams Honda, close to 250km/h. If I'm not mistaken it was in 1985. Today they would get very close to an average of 280km/h.....Wow!!

    The Maggots-Beckets zone was actually a good change, but I miss the old bridge

    From about the mid-70s to the early-90s Silverstone was the fastest circuit in F1, even more than Monza. Keke Rosberg's 1985 pole lap was the first anywhere to average over 160mph, and remained the fastest qualy lap in F1 until Juan Pablo Montoya finally broke it at Monza in 2002.

    This makes Monza look like Monaco. Silverstone now is a higher end normal F1 circuit, but back then it was *different*. You've gotta have some different tracks on the calendar, and this kind of appeals to me. Great video as always.

    In the 1980s, the turbo engine era, Monza, Silverstone and Hockenheim were circuits with terrifyingly fast average lap speeds. The races were exciting for TV viewers, but they also contained dangers that would not be tolerated under modern safety regulations. It was a wonderful video that reminded us of the time when motorsports was not a "competition by athletes" but a "battle by daredevils."😢

      If you mean with "less corners", ok I agree. But not that it's necessarily boring. Search here for that same race in 1988. It wasn't boring at all.

    The old Silverstone was bumpy but wouldn't be this bad in a modern F1 car. The old cars got thrown around more because they weighed much less, particularly in qualifying.

    • @DiegoRuiz1991
      @DiegoRuiz1991 10 месяцев назад

      Thruxton is like 3 tight corners at first, then it's almost never straight and then has the final actual chicane
      1980s Silverstone has no tight corners and Luffield is barely a chicane

  • @DiegoRuiz1991
    @DiegoRuiz1991 10 месяцев назад

    With some 100% doable changes (Copse being the current version, slower Becketts, 1990s Stowe and a proper chicane in Luffield), this could still be raced today - It's kinda strange how we went from this to left-right everywhere (Bridge corner was awesome though) to the current clusterfuck
    OG Silverstone = a bit too simple
    1980s Silverstone = great, perfect if with the changes I proposed
    1990s/00s Silverstone = very nice but too many esses
    Current Silverstone = fuck it
