  • Vashti Bunyan was born Jennifer Vashti Bunyan in 1945 and is a British folk singer-songwriter. Bunyan released her first album, Just Another Diamond Day, in 1970. The album was not deemed a commercial success and Vashti discouraged, abandoned her musical career. By the year 2000, her album had acquired a cult following and was re-issued after a gap of thirty years. She subsequently released two albums: Lookaftering in 2005, and Heartleap in 2014.
During a break from her trip at Christmas 1968, she met Joe Boyd through a friend and he offered to record an album of her travelling songs for his Witchseason Productions. A year later Bunyan returned to London and recorded her first LP with assistance from Simon Nicol and Dave Swarbrick of Fairport Convention, Robin Williamson of The Incredible String Band and string arranger Robert Kirby, today best known for his work on Nick Drake's first two albums. The album appeared on Philips Records to warm reviews in December 1970, but struggled to find an audience. Disappointed, she left the industry and moved to The Incredible String Band's Glen Row cottages, then Ireland, and back to Scotland. Vashti spent 30 years raising her three children. In this time, entirely unknown to her, the original album slowly became one of the most sought-after records of its time.

not sure what makes some music seem real and other music, though sounding good to the superficial part of me, sound like contrived garbage.
eg, listen to a 60s song vs just about any thing from today and you will see what i mean. there is little magic today. fewer deeper sentiments exist that you have to consider deeply to fully get.
and it's not about idolizing anyone or noting something subjective... hell, Page and Plant created unbelievable stuff that is among the best ever, yet slowly declined to be not-so-exceptional way later on... so idk what it is.
but this has 'it'. maybe it's mystique...? a real part of something is in the music, rather than some soullessly orchestrated thing.

    Lyrics:
Travelling north, travelling north to find you
Train wheels beating, the wind in my eyes
Don't even know what I'll say when find you
Call out your name love, dont be surprised
It's so many miles and so long since I've met you
Don't even know what I'll find when I get to you
But suddenly now I know where I belong
It's many hundred miles and it won't be long
    It wont be long
    It wont be long
    It wont be long
Nothing at all in my head to say to you
Only the beat of the train I'm on
Nothing I've learnt all my life on the way to you
Only our love that's over and gone
It's so many miles and so long since I've met you
Don't even know what I'll find when I get to you
But suddenly now I know where I belong
It's many hundred miles and it won't be long
    It wont be long

Funny how the imagery added here completely changes the feel of the track. Vashti sung this in the rather grim and grubby 1960s U.K., which conjures up quite different (and depressing) imagery than the pristine countryside of, presumably Canada or the USA or some such, as shown here.
