Why is it that when kurohige attacks, students' health point bars sometimes turn gray? Does that debuff reduce max HP?

Yep, the unique mechanic is some attacks drain a % of max hp instead. Overhealing over the new max hp removes stacks and if you let max hp fall below 50% the student gets confused and attacks teammates until all stacks are removed.

@@blackmastery I would say Kikyou is too. Kasumi is also very good but probably not must pull. The other purple dps like Yukari, Ichika, Renge aren't strictly needed if you only care about getting a clear.
