I’m 67, my wife 66. Courting in late 70s,young love listening to this in the dark. Magic.
You know you're Great when you got on Old Grey Whistle Test! 😀
Steve Forbert has been a working musician ever since he along with others was tagged as the “ new Dylan “… which I’ve never understood… why would you need a “ new Dylan “ when the original Dylan… is still here and never left…? I’ve seen Steve play several times live and I’ve always appreciated his songs and efforts… he writes and plays… because he’s in it till the end… many thanks for all your music… it’s always meant a lot to me… a very underrated artist… ! 🌎🕊️
As a kid I helped my father do sound for Steve forbert..didn't know how lucky I was at the time. Very good performer and very underrated. I found this song later in life , and it suits my current troubles all too well.
It takes skill to wrap up fatalism and hope together like this- a tear shed for the past and a plan made for the future, delivered with such grace you can't help but feel he's singing to you. I'd put it up there with the best of Simon, Costello and Darnielle
I love how Steve sings this song with so much emotion. You can see how he feels the lyrics as he sings them. I was stationed in Okinawa, Japan when my friend sent me "Alive on Arrival". I played that tape in total darkness with a case of Heineken every Friday night. Great time of my life! Thanks for the memories Steve!
Super cool😊
I left that rock with Rodney Crowell and then stateside heard Steve for the first time and yeah I’m so glad he’s still putting it out there
I'm going to listen to it soon.
I don't know how he never became more popular.
Same here
The business of Music took care of that. It is the ugly underside that has kept many brilliant artists from getting to that place

Blessing in disguise? ❤
@@kevinfogarty6924 Yes - and today, mediocre really dominates.
In a different world, this would have become an anthem.☮
Fanatastic thanks to a dear departed friend of mine who put me onto him. Thanks Chris
That debut album stands up to any artists’ debut
wow ..i'm speechless ...
First heard this song at an old friend of mine's funeral. Blew me away. Cheers Russell, it was a joy while you were here.
Brilliant, simply sublime. Until you've wished, and then walked through the gate ya just can't feel it.
I’ve heard this song a million times since it came out …..this is 🫏 kicking !!!! The definitive version!!! Way to go sf!!
I love this song. Whenever I've had to switch gears in my life, I hear it playing in my head. One of the most important lessons of my life. So sad .So beautiful. So prophetic. And how to live through it.
And I've heard them saying Steve was going to be the next Bob Dylan. I don't know what he would have had to do for them to consider them to be the next Bob Dylan but whatever it is I'm sure glad things turned out this way. I like him the way he was and the way he is. I'd rather have one Steve forbert then two Bob Dylan's. Two wonderful and unique artists.
Definitely for sure❤😊 Steve's a legendary muscian😊
I want this song played at my funeral
My time is coming soon
Great live performance of my favorite Steve Forbert song. I have always felt that this man's music is special.
One of my fav all time videos....I remember seeing it when it first aired....At the time Alan Freeman (BBC DJ) was touting Steve as the new Dylan and all of that claptrap, and in the process playing the songs which was a great deal. Good music on the radio...who woulda thunk?....I was working for 18 quid a week and couldn't afford new albums...so I saw the album at the record / tape exchange in Shepard's Bush..(turn left up the Shepard's leg...you can't miss it). Still have the record.....still play it. Some songs never die. P.S. Watching Steve taught me something about giving your all on stage. Thanks Steve.
I remember back in the seventys buying his album "Alive on arrival " great album.
He played at my college in 80
I was involved in the event and enjoyed a few hours relaxing with him
Very cool person
Beautiful performance, a joy to watch & listen ♡♡♡

Love it Love it Love it
One of my favorite songs.
I swear, everyone gave their best performances on OGWT!!! He really pours his soul into this one.
Also, the pop-up about the Lauper video, ha! I knew he was in somebody's video but couldn't remember. Glad they added that little ditty :)
Bob Dylan lyrics, harmonica, music with a raspy Rod Stewart voice ... really like his stuff
Great classic footage! Just started reading your book again. Lots of great stories! Love the place that put plywood on the pool table and called it a stage. 😆
He wrote a book? Dang I just gotta have it, title plx & tyx from 🇺🇸 ❤😅😊
Awesome!
You’ve inspired me since forever
Ahhhh. That’s lovely. And the shirt is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The story of my life.
So cool
Well I first saw Steve on Bleeker Street in the Village with his guitar and his case opened for contributions. Next stop opening for Dylan at Sunrise Theater in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. Fast forward to 2023 at the Iridium Jazz Club NYC. What's that 45 years ... Pretty good.
Wow, what a voice!!!! 🤩
I know!
Such a sweet baby. Did you feel so young? God bless you all your life, as well as before and after. 🙋🧡🙏 To "step out in time," I am ready for that.
Wonderful!
Fabulous!
Wow!!!
Just got song today, how'd I miss it?
This is so damn wonderful! ❤it & Steve too from 🇺🇸! Glad to have your music! Great song 🎵 live too! Take care dude😅😊❤🎉
Agree with the comments below ... but, it does also show how a tight band of great session musicians can add a spark - not heard another version of the song that beats this version.
*STEVE FORBERT*
Do you think that is the answer and truth to *every* possible dream? "It Isn't Gonna' Be That Way?" I'm tired of it. 🙋🧡🙏
✌🏽🇺🇦
Damn near forgot about you Steve 😮What else would you expect from a child
of the 70s you said it isn’t gonna be that way..
