I was wondering that also. This movie seems more cookie cutter than anything. Trailer shows:
Man wants revenge
Turns assassin
Has teacher
Fights teachers former student
Former student kills teacher
Man foils nuke in sea, fights stupid fight against the bad guy
Man, even writing it was boring.

Honestly, this could be one of the best movies of 2017, so far. Story is solid, and the cast is well put together. Trailer spoiled too much, but it doesn't take away from the fact that this looks really promising :)

well, they're both based on book series - mind you, American Assassin was written more recently than Bourne (all his original author books had to be updated from the 1970's), and has more books.
armagedon515 it's based on a book series by Vince Flynn. Started back in the early 90's. Although the specific book American Assassin was written more recently and was an origin story that came like 7 books after the first.
